Thundercloud on South Lamar is one of my favorite locations. The spicy mustard is so good and the lettuce is shredded so its light with a good texture. The staff is always so chill and funny. Great atmosphere. A little pricier than some sandwich places but honestly worth it because it tastes fresh and healthy. Great if you’re a vegetarian or vegan or gluten free BUT I’m not so I prefer the club. And every once in a while they’ll have a deal on a certain sandwich.

Here is how you do Thundercloud right …
1. Approach the counter and advise the friendly sandwich artist that you would like the Austin Club.
2. Decide if you want the regular or large size sandwich — regular is big enough but if you are feeling really hungry go with the large (you can always save the rest for later)
3. Decide if you want provolone or American cheese — i go with provolone
4. Decide if you want it on white or wheat — i go with wheat
5. Then say yes to all the rest of the questions they ask
6. You will end up with the Austin Club all the way … it’s the bomb!
Seriously — make it easy on yourself and follow my instructions. You will end up with a sandwich that if full of flavor and you will be back for more!

Third time in a row I had to go for tacos next door because the line was too long, they were out of what I wanted, or just simply wouldn’t answer the phone. I just want to bring thundercloud home for dinner ya know? But these guys make it impossible.
Come on!!! You need more staff! The last time I tried, the guy literally told me they don’t take phone orders when there’s a line. Goodness…

Thundercloud is my favorite sub shop in Austin. It’s my go-​to lunch when I don’t have anything at the house and I don’t feel like actually «going out to eat». I feel like it’s a fairly healthy choice too, depending of course on what you order. I come here so frequently that all the staff knows me and knows they best gimme a side of ranch to dip my sammie! My favorite is the California club on wheat. Mayo, spicy mustard, no onion, add black olives and a yellow pepper. Man I love that sandwich so much. The staff is so freaking friendly too!

An Austin tradition and a great fast fresh option on the run. Just try and eat ASAP after it’s created– soggy bread with the thunder sauce is not the ideal way to experience these subs!

I always get bored with sandwiches and think that if I’m going out to eat, why get a sandwich? HOwever, Thundercloud answers this question with so many reasons. First, the staff is amazing. They are so friendly, so fun, warm, and welcoming. Second, the food is always fresh and tasty. I like the cold or hot subs and the brownies are wayyyy to delish. I also love that they sponsor one of my favorite races every year-​The Turkey Trot. What is there not to like about Thundercloud?

I cannot say enough great things about the service at this location. Truly superb. All of the crew members are friendly and look happy to be at their job, even when I come in late at night. They are always talkative and tentative, plus they make great sandwiches! The friendly staff def. keeps me coming back almost weekly. So lucky this location is my neighborhood Thundercloud!

It was one of those days. One of those super busy days. One of those days you may forget to eat unless some food is staring you in the face.
It was this day today that Thundercloud was directly in front of me and it dawned on me that maybe I should eat now and so I ate.
It might only be the 500th time I’ve eaten at Tcloud but it has also been a while. And guess what? I still order the exact sub as I did on my first visit.

All I gotta say is please don’t run out of gluten free bread AND Thundersauce on the one day I come in for my bi-​yearly Thundercloud visit. Not sure if I will ever come back to a TC, and that is sad because I have been eating TC since the very early 80’s…

I have been to a few different locations across town and wouldn’t necessarily feel the need to review them in general, but this South Lamar Thundercloud is great! Everyone is so friendly and genuinely chats up their customers at the counter. Love the wheat bread and the California Club is always a good bet. Another great, quick lunch spot, but the parking is a bit chaotic in the tiny lot.

Overall, my sandwich was pretty good. They have more options than your typical subway and what not such as hummus etc. However, I wasn’t too satisfied with the workers there; it seemed like they didn’t really care for us and they would be enough for me to not want to come back but most likely, I would just go to a different thundercloud sub store.

I Love Thundercloud, I have for nearly 30 years. My usual first stop when I get off the plane is here since it’s close to my parents’ house. This location has expanded to take over the space that was the Pizza Hut next door. Papalote Tacos is now next door (great tacos).
Personally, I love the smoked chicken on wheat all the way and don’t forget the Thundersauce. I’m also partial to the very messy but delicious hot roast beef. Great fresh sandwiches made to order quickly, what more could you ask for?
