The Salvation Army Family Store & Donation Center

This Salvation Army is awesome. I believe they do Gods work with helping the homeless. This store is one of my all time favorites to visit because they had a good selection of furniture to refurbish. The staff is very helpful with loading my stuff in the car. It’s a great way to get rid of your good stuff that you just don’t need anymore by donating to a good cause.

I was wanting to donate 4 pieces of furniture and a bag of good, used clothing to the Salvation Army. My experience with Salvation Army was horrible. They clearly do not care about people and do not care whether or not they receive donations. When I spoke with Robert Rooth of Austin Salvation Army he was extremely rude and condescending. He was acting as though he was doing me a favor by accepting the donations when that is clearly no the case. I could have easily sold the items for profit but instead wanted to donate them to help those struggling with poverty. Salvation Army gave us a 3 hour window which we would have to take out of our work day to wait for them to pick up the donations from our apartment. I kindly asked for a call about 10– 15 minutes prior to their arrival and Robert informed me that they do not have the resources to do so. While they do not have the resources to make that 2 minute call, they were able to call us to tell us they came by and we weren’t there. That to me doesn’t make any sense whatsoever. Additionally, Robert made sarcastic comments about not wanting the drivers to talk on the phone while driving. I never suggested such an act, I merely think it would be highly possible (and save them the time of going to an address where no one is home) to either call before starting the truck or pull to the side to make the 2 minute or less call. Furthermore, I kindly requested that in lieu of them giving us the time window that the apartment manage let them in to the unit upon arrival and they indicated that this was not possible for an unspecified reason. If you want to donate to those in poverty I would highly recommend donating to an organization that is respectful to those donating and that actually does want donations. Clearly, Salvation Army believes that donations are not important and they believe they are providing a service to you by accepting said donations. I will be donating to one of the many other organizations in Austin, Texas.

***DON’T WASTE YOUR TIME***
I called and set up an appointment for a donation pick-​up at my residence (piece of furniture that won’t fit in my car).
TSA said, «It will be 8 days before we can get there.» No problem.
I wait 8 days. The morning of pick-​up, per their instructions, I called early in the morning to get my «3-​hour window» of when they would be arriving (vs. taking the *whole* day off of work). Dude was super cool and says, «We’ll be there between 9 and noon.» Great!
TSA NEVER SHOWED UP. Never called. Zilch. Zero. Silence.
I called the next day to get an explanation — was asked to leave a detailed voicemail. No one ever returned the call.
DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME.

The furniture selection is their main focal point, along with clothing.
I love to thrift shop for housewares, which is why I usually prefer Goodwill over SA, unless I’m looking for the two things mentioned above.
I can say that the housewares they do have are always high quality, including the beautiful tea sets!
The store is always immaculate and staff super helpful and always ask if I need help.
Please reduce, reuse and recycle people! Shop thrift stores instead.

Have great quality childrens clothes.
Never had a run in with management, employees seem genuine and the elderly workers get the help they need.
Have good stuff! And keep a look out for wacky wednesdays half price!
They deserved a just review.

I wish I could give this place zero stars! DONT shop here! We bought a couch set for nearly five hundred dollars only to discover a few weeks later they were infested with bed bugs!!! Pest control guy says that they hear about people in this same situation all the time because this place does not deep clean their furniture! Stay away!!!

There is a manager working here who is very rude. I was looking at an item and he said «it’s 7:58 you need to get up to the front of the store now because we close promptly at 8pm!» no manners. Another woman he said something rude to her as well. «I suggest you get up to the front promptly»! Like damn hold onto your britches old man! He should be thankful he has customers to keep this place open.
