The Jackalope

Burger was as good as advertised, and was cooked to how we ordered them. That’s not always the case at many other high rated burger places. I’ve gotten hamburger sushi too often at other places, and I have learned not to order below medium. Would have to go back a few times to see if they can be relied on to get med-​rare right. Wings were very good too, they weren’t deep fried. They were naked and done (I suspect) in the oven and finished on the grill, which I prefer to deep frying. Definitely recommended for casual dinner in an interesting bar.

When coming to Austin for a good time you must hit up sixth street! While on 6^th st there are many bars to go to but this bar here had good looking food and the DJ was pretty good too! We had a couple margaritas here and had some good laughs seeing the drunk people try to balance themselves. Overall a fun experience.

Best bar in Austin. Music is on point. Bar tenders are great. Drinks are delicious and the giant Jackalope makes for a good memory.

I would give ten if possible. Great music and atmosphere! Good people watching if you’re into that. Bartender Dennis is awesome!

My head was already spinning when we finally arrived at The Jackalope but there are a few things that I remember about this place that make me a fan of it:
First of all, The Jezebel is one of my favorite drinks that I’ve ever had. It’s made from Effen Cucumber (Cucumber Vodka), Martini Bianco, St Germain, Rhubarb Bitters, and Club Soda. The combination of these liquors is amazing. I love St Germain so that was an obvious choice for me and cucumber sounded good, so I thought I’d go for it.
The mixture was so refreshing! So refreshing I didn’t think I was drinking alcohol, uh oh. It was bubbly and perfect. I went back to order another one later on in the evening. It didn’t taste as good as my first one, but it still satisfied.
My minor complaint was that the second time we went the bartender seemed oblivious to the fact that I sat down at the bar. It took him about five minutes, only after a scolding from someone else he worked with, to come and put a napkin in front of me.
I can forgive someone for that though. I didn’t get a chance to try the food, but it was definitely a good choice. I’m already looking for recipes to try and make it on my own!

The Jackalope is in the perfect spot on dirty 6^th. My husband and I often stop in here for a drink when we are making the hike from the west side to the east side of downtown. It is absolutely one of the best bars on 6^th street. You really can’t go wrong with anything here in my opinion. A must get though every time you stop in here is a Sake Bomb! They are amazing and the perfect way to make your day or evening even more fun! I have heard their food is good here, but I have yet to actually try it. I will eventually. Until then — I say get a SAKE BOMB!!!
Oh and be sure to get a picture of yourself sitting on the huge jackalope! It is sure to be your next profile pick that will get all your friends talking!

Loud. And I mean so loud I had to yell into the ears of the person taking my order. Crowded, and not in the fun way but the «if you don’t move right now I’m going to have to tap you cause it’s so loud you can’t hear me say excuse me and so crowded I have no other choice». Their cocktails are $ 10 – 12 for 8 ounce cups and are overfilled with ice. Just not a deal. There are enough bars on 6^th Street with drink specials.

Huge, tasty burgers. Good drinks. Waffles fries. Playing This Is The End. Can’t ask for too much more.
Got the bacon and brie burger which came with several melted chunks of brie and thick crispy bacon. I’m salivating thinking bout it (and I just had my bodyweight in bbq for lunch).
If you dont like staring at drawings of women with big boobs dont go sit by the booths on the side bar, but other than that it was delicious, kitschy, and service was on point!

Get drunk, eat b*tchin’ food, ride Jackalope. Lather, rinse, repeat.

The huge Jackalope in the window caught my attention right away, so of course I HAD to go inside and take a picture on top of the darn thing! However, it came with rules, one being that you physically had to have a drink in your hand in order to sit on it. In I Went! Plus, to top it off, I also needed to sit down somewhere to charge my phone.
Immediately my boyfriend went to find a waitress and he asked her to sit us somewhere where they was an outlet available.
Right away, she brought us to a booth in the back,
Booths are spacious and have some lovely fake pictures of women and their knockers plastered on the wall which I thought was pretty hilarious.
My boyfriend then decided to ask the waitress what drink they were known for, and right away she pointed to a drink on the menu called the Helldorado.
According to the menu, you needed at least two people to order the drink and it was suppose to taste like a fruit punch martini.
It was brought to our table and this thing was HUGE! Like a jumbo martini glass with two gigantic straws sticking out of it.
I took a sip, a very sugary drink which had a lot of club soda in it.
I would say a fun drink for college students to enjoy. I am 25 and was asking myself why the heck I was even drinking this thing.
However, I guess it was cool for the experience, but for $ 17.00 there was definitely not enough liquor in it especially for two people.
Since I finally had my drink, I was able to get on top of that huge Jackalope and take my picture. And for those of you who are wondering, yes, it was just as awesome as it sounds, especially after a night of bar hoping.
There was also a pool table inside as well. Very cheap, and the sticks were all broken but usable.
The back porch was very nice though! I would have been content just hanging out there all night.
Even though it is a dive bar, they also serve food. I personally did not get a chance to try anything this time around but there is always next time!

I was waiting for my food in the jackalope when I got the phonecall that my dog had to be put down.
I love my pets more than people, so naturally I began to cry. It was then that the manager approached me and accused me of being too drunk, kicking me out on the spot.
I guess at this bar, any sign of emotion means you’re probably drunk.
Never will I ever try to go back.

The Jackalope is one of the few bars on Dirty Sixth that I can stand being in for an extended period of time. The overproduced pop music that typically emanates from the neighboring establishments is drowned out by heavy rock and metal. Plus there’s a giant jackalope you can (and will) sit upon. Drinks are ridiculously cheap even by Sixth Street standards and there is a fairly substantial menu of food available for order. I’ve never gotten said food before but it always looks appealing in passing.

This is going to be straight to the point. I tested the waters with a $ 4 plain slice during lunch. The pizza was terrible. It was very doughy, the cheese was meh, and the sauce was nonexistent and there was almost no sauce on my pizza slice the little bit of sauce I did get was tasteless. If I hadn’t walked so far away I probably would have tried to get a refund, because I was so disappointed.

We were drawn into The Jackalope on Sunday morning after looking at their menu and seeing Unilocal reviews. When we arrived, we sat in the bar area for a few minutes and didn’t have anyone greet us despite the restaurant not being busy. We moved into the dining room area and still received very slow service.
Once we had a server, I ordered a bloody mary and it was really great! They use Zing Zang… one of my favorites! I had the Green Eggs and Ham from the brunch menu. It had too many flavors going on to really enjoy. I was not a fan.
My friend ordered a pulled pork sandwich and it was great! I ate some of it and really enjoyed it. Their waffle fries are good.
Overall, the experience was so-​so.

Just realized I never even wrote a review for this place yet, and I’ve been coming here for years! Well gosh darn it it’s time to remedy that. Jackalope is the best bar to go to on 6^th street. They maybe a little bit on the pricy side, but they make up for it with quantity giving you large helpings of alcohol instead of small servings. They serve you excellent local drafts straight from the tap. They are superbly dainty and are turning into some of my favorite doses of alcohol period. They have an AMAZING outdoor patio… just go all the way to the back whenever you get here and go through the door on the right… and you will see what I mean. They have TV’s everywhere… usually playing either the most absolutely bizarre films you could possibly imagine watching, or music videos of the songs they play. The music here is better than most bars on 6^th… I mean a lot of the music on 6^th sucks… but this one actually plays some good tunes here and there.
Even though I’m rating this 5 stars, there is one minor hick-​up here. Occasionally the staff here can be rude. I’ve been given the stink eye more than once at this joint… or an attitude. A lot of the staff here can be very very cool though… and the majority of the staff here are pretty dang hot lol. They almost all have tattoos covering their bodies… and dress as you’d expect people would dress like on 6^th… not some professional raiment. Love that! Also adding to the sexiness of the bar is that topless portraits of females seem to be ubiquitous here… though perhaps not so alluring to the female patrons that come here.
The food here is good as well… though sometimes a bit too meaty for my tastes on some entrees (I’m more into vegetarian stuff). I would say the food here is a step up from most bar foods… and the pricing for the food is surprisingly much more affordable than the alcohol here is. Considering this place is better known for its food (and perhaps the HUGE jackalope at the façade of the bar), this is indeed surprising.
So in the end I highly recommend coming to Jackalope if you’re ever around the dirty part of 6^th street… just make sure to have a little extra for the alcohol. I usually spend around 14 dollars here for just 2 drinks including the tip. However if you come here on a Tuesday the drafts are half off which is quite a treat since they serve up some amazing drafts. They have specials on other days as well, but I cannot remember them all.

We were only here for a drink. Initially, when we sat down at the bar, we were going to order food, but after I scoped out the photos posted on Unilocal,and noticed the one with the roach. The menu was dirty and pretty much sealed my decision to pass. The bar tender wasn’t the friendliest either. This was actually out first stop attempt to eat in ATX, I was a bit scared that was going to be the norm in Austin… luckily, I’m happy to report, that hag was a rare form of an Austintonian. Heck, she must’ve been a transplant from the north.
They do have a burger that was apparently voted to be the best burger by Food Network and it is half off on Wednesday from 5pm until close. The huge Jackalope at the front was cool. I had on a dress, so I didn’t get my picture on it, but there isn’t a shortage of shots of it on Unilocal,if you’re curious.

I needed to skip over other reviews before I forget how amazingly delicious their waffle fries are.
This restaurant is located on 6^th street. Yes, most bars are restaurants too, so check them out not only when you’re trying to get wasted!
Seeing as how it’s on 6^th, the place is pretty dark and dirty… When you walk in, there’s a large jackalope for you to sit on and take a picture. There’s a sign that says you need to have a drink in hand too, but i just hopped on without it.
The restaurant is split level, with stairs leading up to an outside patio seating area/​bar. We chose to stay downstairs where the ac is. They have a pool table and a couple of arcade game machines to the back of the restaurant.
They have happy hour daily from 3?-7, however, we chose to just eat since we were going to drink later on at night.
Let’s get to the good part, the food review.
Jack Basic Burger: i was debating on another burger, but this one had the veggies that I needed while eating a burger. As the name implies, your basic beef burger with tomatoes, onions and lettuce. You don’t get to pick how it’s cooked, but that’s okay. It was good. (⁴⁄₅)
Black and Bleu Burger: my friend ordered this and I didn’t try it but he enjoyed it. He did say there was a lot of bleu cheese though.
Waffle fries (extra $ 2): The BEST waffle fries that I have ever had. If you thought chicfila had awesome waffle fries, you need to come here. My friends and I all agreed that it was the best part of the meal. Not too crispy, soggy or salty. Very hardy bite to it. Very large portion. My mouth is salivating just thinking about it. (⁵⁄₅)
Our server was really nice and attentive. I took a star away because the place itself just felt too dirty for me…
Would I come back? Yesssss!!! Those fries are too good to not.

Since I’m always in the mood for Pantera, Black Sabbath, Slayer, and weird movies on the patio… I’m always in the mood for Jackalope.
One of the few good bars on dirty 6^th for locals. I rarely find myself on dirty. In my early 20s I wouldn’t have even noticed this bar because this isn’t where the early 20s crowd hangs, unless you’re dying to take a pic with the jackalope at the entrance. Since I’ve been grown, Jackalope feeds my belly and my thirst quite well. Thanks for always serving up kick ass tunes on the patio, serving my favorite food (pizza) and having local brews on draft. They even have a fun cocktails menu for when you’re feeling kinda froufrou.
Tip: seating inside along the walls are only for customers who plan to order food.

If you are the type of person who does not like loud music, dive atmospheres, pictures of busty ladies, or giant jackalopes then this place is not for you. I however, found it totally Austin appropriate and the perfect place to take our out of town guests that were visiting us this weekend.
I first heard about this funky establishment via the Food Network. They have a show called Best Ever that features something new each episode. Imagine my delight when they were doing the best burger and their very first pick was from right here in Austin at, you guessed it, the Jackalope!
Their burgers are handmade everyday, never frozen, and even the buns are freshly baked and toasted with real butter. The one they show on tv was the Chipotle Bacon Cheeseburger which has house made chipotle pimento cheese, pickles, bacon, and chipotle mayo. My husband ordered this one and let me have a bite and it was just… beyond comprehension. You MUST try this burger at least once and that is an order! (Shout out only to the carnivores obviously)
They do have a veggie burger as well and the waffle fries are downright addictive. They don’t come with the burgers, but I recommend ordering some to share because the burgers are monstrously big.
I ordered the bacon and brie burger because I can never say no to brie, and while it was delicious, I have to say that I liked the chipotle burger better.
Our one friend wasn’t feeling a burger that night so she got the Tijuana instead which is a deep fried hot dog wrapped in bacon and topped with jack cheese, jalapeños, and chipotle mayo. When you deep fry something, wrap it in bacon, and melt cheese on it, I don’t care if it is a flip flop it’s going to taste good.
Sorry kiddies but 21 and up here only. We saw a group of girls sit down next to us that got kicked out before they could order because they were underage.
And it’s also a requirement to take your picture on the Jackalope before you leave! Come on, all the cool kids are doing it. But just remember their rules while doing so! 1) you can only mount him with a drink in your hand 2) one person at a time and 3) no male nudity unless you are Channing Tatum. Ok that last bit was my rule, but you get the picture.
Cheap drinks, good food, 6^th street character, what else could you need?
