Drove all the way over here just to find the store closed. Sign out front says regular hours resume Wednesday, the 3^rd at 12pm.

Wasted 30 minutes getting down here. Arrived at your store at 5:55 to pick up some earrings and candles quickly and guess what, you closed early without notice to the public. Won’t be back again, ever…
Update ¹⁰⁄₂₃: The owner got back to me and apologized for my experience. I was very irate due to being stuck in I-​35 traffic and not being able to complete my delegated mission as desired. She was amazingly nice & sincere in regards to her message; so much so that I WILL be making my way back down soon to shed some more fiscal glory. I also want to apologize to the business owners for my emotionally charged review. The owners are both amazing souls, and have a beautiful daughter that is most certainly worth supporting/​aiding in their growth. One look at the little one and you’ll want to buy everything you can get your hands on, lol, she’s that adorable! Can’t wait to make another visit, and many apologies again & even more blessings to you and your family. See you guys soon!

For $ 16 I would expect to be able to actually smell the candle. I have been sitting next to it for an hour now and cannot smell a thing. I even blew my nose to make sure it wasn’t me and I’m not the only one in my house who can’t smell it — in fact the cat, who scrunches her face up when she goes near it, seems to be the only one here who can. Yeah it’s got a cute name, but that wasn’t worth my money.

Cute little Austin-​y shop. Went here the other day to buy some candles I had seen on a friends instagram, commonly known for their funny names… ie: Unicorn Puke, Queen of Farts, Cuddles ect.
They are in cute little jars and I love that they are made here in Austin, only downfall is even after being lit for a while the scent is very very light, bummer!

Cute store with cute stuff at prices lower than I thought from a small boutique store! What’s there to complain about? NOTHING!

Cute shop with great gifts. The soy candles smell amazing and have great names like: Crazy Cat Lady and Unicorn Puke. :) Simple jewelry (necklaces and earrings), greeting cards, and matted art. Lots of great artistry in one adorable shop. They also have an online shop.

Can I live here? Or will someone leave me a trust fund that can cover me just buying everything in the shop?
The perfect little shop. They carry everything from scarves to t shirts to dresses to jewelry to their own handmade soy candles to funny cards to amazing prints to WINE-​O-​SAURS! Like really… I wish I could describe my love more adequately.
I went here on a quest for more of their soy candles, which I had purchased at a different boutique on South Congress. They last about 100 years, so even though you only really need one or two, you will want to (and absolutely should) buy more like 25. Plus evidently they have these sweet deals regarding their soy candles: (1) bring your empty candle jar back and get $ 1 off your next candle and (2) buy 11 – I think – soy candles and get your 12^th free. Just go ahead and steal my heart Burlap Bag.
I think I wanted about 85% of the items I looked at, so I also encourage you to go to Trudy’s across the street beforehand for some Mexican Martini liquid courage to purchase – purchase ALL THE THINGS. I did not, so I exhibited previously unseen restraint today… but I will be back. I mean, they have a whole little section devoted to «CAT PRINTS.» Yay you, Burlap Bag. You go, Burlap Bag.

Can’t say enough good about this place. The selection is amazing; I want to buy all the things. This is like a Part & Labor for the campus area. They have a little parking lot out back which is great since parking around campus is usually nuts. I especially love their posters, cards, studs ($ 5 for a great selection) and infinity scarves. The cashier was also the owner, a very chilled out dude who searched in the back when they didn’t have the exact earrings I wanted (studs in the shape of Texas… why can’t I find these anywhere in town??). I recommend this place for buying gifts, especially.

I am always a fan of home-​made products, and finding this place was just my luck!
I snagged one of their amazing candles at a local shop on Congress, and was determined to find this place. The next day i went on my search, and was excited when i did:)
I think i spent an hour in this place just looking over everything. There are so many good quality handmade items too! You can find a little bit of everything. From earrings, scarves, local artwork, and CANDLES!!!
My absolute favorite thing about The Burlap Bag is the candles. Each one is made from soy and handmade. I decided to pick up Crazy Cat Lady, and Wino. Both those titles sum me up pretty well haha. The labels on each candle cracked me up. They also had Cuddles, Unicorn Puke, and Butt Naked to name a few. The fragrance smells pretty strong when you open the candle, but when you start to burn it, the scent is very light and inviting. Not over powering whatsoever.
I urge you to go check them out! You won’t be disappointed! And go pick up a few of their candles while your at it too! :)

Another lovely option for gift shopping in Austin! Seems like the candles are probably the biggest hits. From baked bread to crazy cat lady, they are unique and affordable at $ 10. Other standout items are the ceramics, knit children’s toys and quirky jewelry (hedgehog wooden earrings, fork and spoon earrings, etc.). A lot of super affordable options, they even had a sale table where everything was $ 5.

Went to a lovely arts and crafts show and creating event here last night. What a great spot! How did I not know about this place?
We had a great time making ornaments (thanks, ladies! This will now be a tradition in our home!), got some really cute earrings to send to friends in England for Christmas and took some awesome pics with those I love.
There were shirts, bags, candles (Monkey Farts smells so good… and not like bananas at all. ;)), cute little eramic vases to hang on the wall, coasters, tirnkets and what not galore!

Love, love, LOVE this place. Everything is so cute and makes me have to hold on really hard to my wallet. Such unique, handmade gifts and doohickeys. The shop is usually pretty empty and gives you an opportunity to chat with the super friendly and quirky owners.
Like most handmade Etsy-​esque places, the prices are high. I still like to make a stop in every now and then to buy a gift for some special friends! One of my favorite items is a stylized map/​poster of the Austin neighborhoods ($ 26). I also always stop at the earring station – $ 5 for studs and $ 7 for dangling. Pretty reasonable! You can also mix and match the earrings. I had lost one of my last pair that I bought there, and the owner let me buy just one for $ 3.50.
So thank you, Burlap Bag, for your soy candles, funny wall prints, unique postcards, and porcelain jewelry. And of course, for finding a replacement mate for my lonely earring!

I love this place. They have great gifts, great candles, great jewelry, great everything. The staff is super cool and laid back. Even when I’m not buying something I can just come in here and hang out and chat with the friendly people that work there. I have moved away from Austin, but I still check the website to buy stuff online. The candles are seriously the best.

Easy to find something for everyone here! Great spot to take people looking for unique and artsy gifts from Austin. Customer service is top notch from the couple who own the store. The candles are made in-​store and are AMAZING (not to mention hilariously named)! Get you some!

Wonderful soap and great smelling candles. I’m addicted.

Time was flying by, I had zero presents ready before I was supposed to go home for the holidays, and shopping and crowds are definitely not my favorite things. Cue stress and frustration. Thankfully I heard about The Burlap Bag and visited during their last craft fair weekend and was able to get most of my shopping done in one place in less than an hour! In addition to all the goods they carry, they had artists set up around the store for more gift options. I found tons of handmade gifts, including goat soap, candles (labeled with funny smell names like monkey farts!), shirts, notecards, and jewelry. Supporting local artists, browsing cool products and being able to shop fast — big win!

Super cute boutique full of handmade crafts! I think most of the artists also have an etsy store. I saw some t-​shirts that I really liked for $ 25, and a print of the Austin metro for $ 20. They also have soy candles ($ 9) and feto soap solid lotion bars. You can definitely find some unique gifts here. The store is very small but carefully curated. Right across the street from Trudy’s near campus. Shop local!

Great store with one of a kind items. The space is pretty cool and conveniently located. I left wanting to buy one of everything but settled for a honeycomb candle and a recycled sweater rose pillow. I hope to come back for some beautiful soaps, delicious smelling candles, and a canteloupe bowl. I love this store!
