The Beef Cake Shop

We are talking a food cart on Rainey Street here — so we are talking bar food.
This is for restocking body and soul after a couple or six Velvet Hammers from one of the kindly bartenders in an establishment a few doors away.
The food court has a pleasant view of the new skyscraper residences with the pretty lights on top,
and the young ladies and gentlemen in their good time clothes … which can be pretty light on top as well.
Rainey Street food cart food can be really mediocre,
since if you are drunk and hungry enough, you will eat just about anything.
But some carts are definitely better than others — and the Beef Cake Shop is one of the good ones.
It is not really a hamburger place. It is a slider shop. So your hamburgers will be ¼ normal size and you will have to get a lot of them.
I am not a super fan of the slider movement. I like me a great big huge delicious enormous county-​sized burger.
But with sliders you get to have a lot of different flavor concepts all at the same time —
so you spins the bottle and you tries all the different kinds.
The different kinds are pretty darn good.
These sliders are thick, meaty, saucy, flavorful and full of personality.
They are hearty eating when eaten four in a row — which is what I recommend that you do.
No flavor was bad — but Samuel C’s earnest recommendation is that you make sure to get the plain old original slider before you start going for the fancy flavors.
They make the plain old slider sound dull — but it ain’t.
They make it out of meatloaf mix rather than standard hamburger mix — and this is a critical point.
A good meatloaf will blow away a good hamburger six days out of seven, because you mix a meatloaf with about four times as many flavor ingredients as you put in a standard burger.
So their «plain old slider» has a really fine tomato sauce base, and lots of onion and spices and a bunch of secret ingredients I never figured out.
Other flavors like nacho or bbq were fun — but the plain was the tastiest and the most complex.
They also serve fried pickles.
The fried pickle servings are huge.
You could make a life career out of finishing a fried pickle serving at the Beef Cake Shop.
They are good fried pickles — and I love fried pickles …
but just as there is such a thing as too much sex, and too much chocolate,
there is such a thing as too many fried pickles.
(Of course, with eight Jamaican Hurricanes under your belt, your capacity for fried pickles could go up.
Or with eight Jamaican Hurricanes under your belt, your capacity for fried pickles could go down,
and the fried pickles themselves could come up… and come up fast.
Think about all this before you order.)
Still this is a fine place and is significantly better than average bar fare.
One brief note as an observer in Beef Cake Shop’s food court.
Beef Cake Shop and a nearby donut truck tied for getting the second most business of any truck in the food court.
Some of the other food court guys were seeming pretty lonely.
The clear all-​out vote-​of-​the-​people champion was Big Fat Greek Gyro.
Huge lines in front of that truck … and no one was ordering the vegetarian dishes.
Everyone was ordering the gyros.
To my mind, gyros are gyros and what you are likely to get at Beef Cake Shop is likely to be more interesting.
Still — the 1,648,000 people ahead of you might not be wrong.
So think about the beefcake vs gyro issue seriously if you are getting the munchies on Rainey Street.
Of course, if you want to eat sometime before 2019, go to the Beef Cake Shop.
The lines at Big Fat Gyro are pretty darn long.

We’re vegan so our orders are limited to the veggie sliders, fries, and fried pickles. All of those things are great. Best fried pickles ever! The service is always fast and friendly. They’ve even been helpful on advice to which bars to visit on Rainey. Just a really nice food truck.

The Beef Cake Shop is your classic food truck that offers sliders, fries dogs and more. The service was top notch. I was unsure that I would like their Classic Beef Cake Slider. If I was unsatisfied, he would make another. I WAS satisfied and really enjoyed the sliders. I would have liked the buns to be toasted. Each Slider has a unique flavor.

A few weeks ago I checked out their thanksgiving turkey sliders and was thoroughly amazed. I believe it was a turkey slider mixed with stuffing and cranberries. Be still my heart!
They’re conveniently located on Rainey street, have good attitudes and even better food. Would recommend.

I’m not really a fan of hamburgers, but The Beef Cake Shop makes some tasty sliders. You order three or four sliders and you pick and choose which ones you would like. Looking through other reviews, it looks like they change up which kinds they offer, which is an interesting concept.
I only tried the buffalo chicken one, but it was really good. The patty itself was a conglomeration of juicy buffalo chicken and it had a lot of flavor. It also wasn’t the least bit dry, which can be a problem when ordering chicken burgers. They add buffalo sauce and ranch or bleu cheese upon request — of course, I chose ranch. There was just the right amount of sauce — not too much so that it would spill everywhere while I was eating, but enough that each bite had some ranch in it. Great! My boyfriend tried two of the other sliders and he liked the ones he got — I believe they were the nacho slider and the bacon cheeseburger slider.
We also got the fries and fried pickles to try. I liked the fries — really thin, nice and crispy, and just the right amount of salt. The fried pickles were okay. Some of them were really good and then some of them weren’t, but I’m not sure what was wrong with the duds. Too much batter maybe?
My favorite part? I saw four kittens in the area and the guy working, possibly the owner, told me all about them and how he feeds them and their little pathways underneath all the food trucks. I’m such a sucker for cats.
If I’m looking for some food after a night out on Rainey again, I’d head back for that buffalo chicken slider. I wonder if they’d let me buy just one?

I ate here while out on Rainey with some friends. Jimmy was awesome in suggesting his favorites and new additions to try. His suggestions were right on! Delicious flavor and creative spin on traditional sliders. This place is a must try. Excellent food!

Horrible service and the food was so cold. The ut fries were so salty and gross me and my boyfriend could not even eat them. Do not come here.

This is our go-​to food truck for a weekend night out on Rainey Street (and an occasional weekday dinner). My ABSOLUTE FAVORITE is the Day After Thanksgiving slider. Turkey, stuffing, cranberries and gravy on Hawaiian roll– just thinking about it makes me want one now! My husband loves the Original Meatloaf with it’s sweet, thick ketchup sauce and the Paisan (Italian Parmesan). The fried pickles are crispy and pair beautifully with ranch dressing. The friendly owners, Jimmy and Ron, even accommodate us with an order of ½ pickles and ½ fries every time we ask– even when they are super busy.
Maybe someday there will be a brick-​and-​mortar location so I can satisfy my daytime cravings!

Definitely the best food truck on Rainey. Everything on the menu is phenomenal. My favorite is the Nacho and the Thanksgiving ones. The owner, Jimmy, is super friendly. All in all a great food truck to visit next time you’re on Rainey St.

I visited The Beef Cake Shop yesterday as part of Austin’s Truck and Trailer food festival, Truck By TruckWest. The signature dishes for the food competition were the Original Beefcake Slider and «The Day After Thanksgiving» Slider. I had the Original because the chef/​owner said, it was his grandmother’s meatloaf recipe. And if anybody knows about making tasty meatloaf, it’s somebody’s grandmother.
It was all that you would expect. Savory, smooth, chewy, beefy. Spiced with classic meat loaf spices, not too spicy, but enough to get flavor in every bite. Served on King’s Hawaiian rolls, naturally. If you dig some awesome, 1960’s generation, Mom’s meatloaf then you have got to get on down for some of this action.
The Day After Thanksgiving Slider featured ground Turkey, dressing, cranberries, and a home-​style turkey gravy and was a perfectly reproduced, Willy-​Wonka –Style four course meal in a single bite flavor trip down memory lane. The friend I was with who had this had nothing but good things to say about it.
The treat to visiting here almost as much as the food, is the owner and his animated, friendly, loquacious personality. Universally friendly and outgoing, cheerful, fun and exciting to talk to. I really look forward to going to see him again and having more flavors of his get-​down stay-​down sliders soon!

These are little burgers from Heaven. The owners are friendly and know their stuff. Try the Day After Thanksgiving mini burger or the bacon cheeseburger. Of course the classic is always good. Also their skinny cut fries are the bomb. Love this joint. Perfect after a day of drinking on Rainey.

Im not sure how my initial review got 4 stars, but this place was a one star at best. The sliders were mediocre, and the fried pickles were beyond greasy. Pass.

Triple play!

You know you were partying when you say, «We better get some food in our system so we won’t get too F’d up». And that was us on June 21^st. But where to go on Rainey street that will satisfy our eclectic tastebud? The food truck park, of course! We survey the area taking mental note of each menu. We sychronized our watches to meet back up in the middle makeshift courtyard seating in five minutes. (Okay maybe it wasn’t that serious). But we did each hit up a different spot. Me — Big Fat Greek Gyro and BFF — The Beef Cake Shop.
She brought to the table Chili Cheese Fries and the nostalgia of the way back when days were suddenly upon us. Way back when chili actually had beef that was perfectly seasoned not soy crumbles. When cheese sauce was actually made in-​house not some canned dollar store cheese crap. Fries were piping hot and crispy.
Thanks Beef Cake Shop for allowing me to truly enjoy chili cheese fries guilt free because at that point I just didn’t give a damn about gaining 2 pounds.

Perfect drunk food on Rainey St!!!
I had the trio and chose the original beef cake, the cheddar burger, and the buffalo chicken slider and they were all great. I had it for dinner and it was solid, but I just kept thinking how the savory meat and sauces along with the fluffy, slightly sweet rolls would be the *perfect* food to have late at night after spending some time in the bars on Rainy St.

Can I please take Ron and Jimmy and keep them in my pocket at all times?! What awesome guys. And an equally awesome food truck. The Beef Cake Shop is sincerely my favorite food truck in Austin and it should be a secret between me and Ron and Jimmy how often I get food there. I’ve also been guilty of just stopping by to say hi.
In the year that the food truck park on Rainey has been around, I’ve seen a lot of food trucks come and go, but Beef Cake keeps on truckin, if you will.
They have mastered taking everyone’s comfort foods and effortlessly crafted them into sliders. Are you craving Chicken Pot Pie? Mom’s Meatloaf? Cheeseburger? Chicken Wings? Done. They’ve got it. They are even sweet enough to give me credit for their Romeo slider, which is a slider reminiscent to chicken parmesan. I suggested it to them and a few weeks and a few test kitchen runs later, they were rotating it into their menu. So awesome they’re willing to take suggestions and feedback.
They are open late and I’ve personally witnessed them and their incredible patience with the drunken debauchery they deal with every weekend on Rainey Street. If you’re looking for great customer service and great food, look no further than The Beef Cake Shop.

Fair warning: This is based off of a recent buzzed visit to Austin by this San Antonian.
My best friend and I were enjoying Rainey Street when we realized we wanted some food before we made the drive back to San Antonio. It was pretty late, close to 2AM on a Sunday evening. We walked to the food truck park in hopes someone was open. Everyone appeared to be closed until we were flagged down by the lovely gentleman running The Beef Cake Shop.
He let us know he had some Meatloaf Sliders and could cook us up some fresh french fries. He was extremely nice and funny. We felt like we were keeping him out a little later than I’m sure he would like but he assured us we were not imposing. He told us about the food truck park and Austin’s food trucks.
The Meatloaf was really flavorful and moist and the buns were soft and fresh. Not sure if the buns are homemade, but who cares they were great! The fries were also really good. Very fresh (obviously) and seasoned well.
All in all, just what you want from your local food truck. Good food, fresh, and at the right price (even at 2AM)

I grew up in Chicago, so the local pizza and hot dog stands are part of our daily ritual. Having been here for 20 years, its great to finally see Austin’s food trailer craze take off.
So imagine my surprise when I found out that the Buffalo Chicken Hot Wing sandwiches that I fell in love with at a recent catered event have come to Round Rock! The Beef Cake Shop here offers it’s patrons a wide variety of sandwiches including Bacon Cheeseburger, Pepperoni Pizza, Adonis — Greek Gyro, Buffalo Chicken Hot Wing, King Ranch Chicken, and several others depending on the day of the week. Check their Facebook page for the daily menu.
If you like food trailers, I recommend you stop by and give The Beef Cake Shop and the other trailers a try.

Sliders are about the size of meatballs — I had 2 plus a drink for over $ 7 which I thought was a bit pricey
The sliders that I ordered were jack and mozzarella cheese — they were not fully cooked and didn’t have much flavor. I heard the trailer guy tell another guy that they don’t cook on premises — they bring in from a commercial kitchen.
The little buns were hard on one side and the condiments overwhelmed the sliders even though I had asked for only a light amount.

This slider-​oriented trailer offers a simple menu of different burger-​patties with flavor cooked into the patty. I tried the bacon-​cheeseburger, featuring bacon, cheese and onion cooked into the patty, and the «Paisano» featuring pepperoni, mozzarella cheese and italian tomato sauce baked in. (Other choices we did not try were buffalo chicken, Greek and vegetarian of some type.)
The patties themselves were very thick for a slider – about ¾ inch, I’d say– and both had plenty of flavor. I liked the bacon-​cheeseburger the best, but the pizza was not bad. The combo of two sliders was $ 3.75 and both were served in a picnic-​checked red and white cardboard dish with cocktail toothpicks holding them together.
My only complaint was the buns were not warm or otherwise anything resembling fresh. When I think of a slider I think of Krystal or White Castle and those soft, squishy buns as part of the experience. Still, I’d call them a nice flavor option and not a bad addition to the trailer yard as a whole.
