Specialties
The Texican Café is an Austin original, serving fresh and flavorful Tex-Mex to hungry patrons for over twenty years. We use only the finest and freshest ingredients to enhance your dining experience.
We serve El Paso Style Tex-Mex, preparing food with very traditional recipes. This results in a delicious type of Mexican cuisine that you can’t find anywhere else in town! Our chili peppers and spices are native to the cities of Juarez and El Paso and give our food a unique flavorful flair. These traditional ingredients paired with New Mexican Native American ingredients made for the perfect blend of Mexican food created for Texans, thus the birth of the cuisine at «Texican Café.»
We are a family friendly establishment that feels like a comfortable neighborhood restaurant. All of our locations have multiple flat-screen TVs for diners to enjoy. We have a full bar serving both beer and liquor at each of our establishments.
We look forward to serving you some of the best Tex-Mex in town!
History
Established in 1988.
The Texican Café is an Austin original, first opening in 1988. Then and now, our food philosophy remains the same– use only the finest and freshest beef, poultry, seafood, and produce to ensure the delivery of palate pleasing offerings of the highest quality.
The original Texican Café began in a dirt lot on Manchaca Rd. consisted of a single room large enough to serve only 40 people. The delicious Tex-Mex menu mixed with the casual laid-back atmosphere was a hit, and soon the Texican Café was in expansion mode.
First there was the addition of a full bar, then a second dining room, and finally a private party room. Before too long, the «North Austin Renaissance» began and the Texican Café responded by adding its second location near Lakeline Mall. A few years later, the Texican added a third location in Brodie Oaks but did so with a twist! We took our love for Tex-Mex cuisine and combined it with Austin’s love for sports, and created the Texican Sports Cantina!

The Baldirama Restaurant Group’s first concept, the original Texican Café on Manchaca Road, began serving hungry Austinites in south Austin in 1988. Seven years later, they opened their second concept, Café 1626, a family-oriented south Austin eatery. Before too long, the «North Austin Renaissance» began and the Texican Café responded by adding its second Texican Café location near Lakeline Mall. A few years later, the Texican added a third location in Brodie Oaks but did so with a twist and created the Texican Sports Cantina. In March 2011, the Baldirama Restaurant Group added their fifth restaurant, Draft Pick, to the family. Draft Pick, a sports restaurant and bar in central Austin, caters to college students, young professionals and downtown dwellers, offering a comfortable, casual atmosphere with a vast beer selection, a full menu and bar, late night hours and a giant HD Screen.
