Texas Alternator Starter Service

This place may be cheap to get alternators from but I would suggest spend the extra money and go somewhere else. Bought a new alternator 1 year and 4 months ago and it already has gone out. Don’t even deserve the one star I had to give.

Looking to save some money, I took my alternator in after getting a reading of 11.5 volts on my multimeter. The guy at the counter vaguely told me he would check it out. Later they call me to tell me that all these parts (brushes, bearings, etc) have to be replaced totaling $ 202.xx. Pretty much the price of a «new» reman denso or bosch alternator at the auto parts store. If I knew it would cost this much, I wouldn’t have taken the trouble to borrow a friend’s car to take my alternator here.
Also, they didn’t give any data on testing to see why those parts were bad if they actually were. I found out later that my multimeter was actually not reading properly showing a 12 battery at 10.5v. Therefore it must mean my alternator in fact was running ok, before it needed to be «fixed». And after further research into alternator repair, it turns out bearings are usually replaced if they start making a lot of noise meaning they are worn severely. Mine were not making any noise at all.
Now, I’ll never be for certain if they did screw me over but I probably wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone.

Took my alternator from my boat to them since AutoZone wouldn’t test it. They were super quick and friendly. My alternator tested good so I didn’t need any more help but I’d go again!

I took the starter from my ’62 Honda Super Hawk in on Wednesday. They refurbished the field coils (insulation had broken down) and got it back to me Friday. Back on bike and working great. They seemed to welcome the challenge of fixing a 50-​year-​old motorcycle starter, and were just about as happy as I was that they succeeded. I told them I’d provide any needed parts (none were), I can understand that them tracking down obsolete parts would eat up time and might make them less enthusiastic. I think this is the first time I ever told a shop that they didn’t charge me enough.

These guys aren’t 5 stars only because they dont have a lot of reviews. They are AWESOME! Alternator went out on car on tuesday. I called around and priced the alternator at Auto zone and a few others. These guys were about 25 $ more on my specific alternator than the other guys but they would take it off and put it back oo for just 78 $! Yes, I said 78 $! And it’s A Mitsibishi! Any mechanic shop would have charged me 3x’s that.
Now here is the kicker. My car is old and the AC went out on it years ago. While they were fixing my alternator they noticed the AC belt was ragged and super loose. The tightened it and notcied my ac started blowing cold. They called and said for an additional 35 $ they would replace and install the belt. I said of yes of course and now i have AC! I freaking have AC!!! In texas! Before the summer!
Did i mention I have AC again???
They never tried to upsale me and i never once felt like they were trying to get one over on me like i have with other mechanic shops. On top of all that, i walked away feeling like i got off cheap! When does that happen? never

Let’s see. They do two things — alternators and starters. All I know is that I pulled my alternator, walked in with a fresh set of eBay bearings, and walked out. They bench tested it before and after — that’s the way to go.
I like the professionalism. Rotor was cleaned off and the brushes pushed 10 amps more than they did on the way in. Boss man was all over the disassembly, bearing packing, and reassembly. Most managers kick back. Not this one.
FWIW Logan’s review from 2 years ago sounds like it wasn’t an alternator problem. «Worse than before» is rarely the issue at one-​stop shops, for starters (hi-​yo).

Had alternator brought to them twice, it’s worse than before. I brought it becuase it would charge intermittently.
now Voltage regulator doesn’t properly regulate, Blew 4 bulbs after before i realized it.
fast service… even though they didn’t help…
