Tech Ridge Pet Hospital

Absolutely excellent! 4 yrs ago, I introduced my pup Buddy to Dr Watson. Now, I won’t trust Bud with anyone other than Tech Ridge Pet hospital! Their expertise and care makes me feel as if I brought, now both my fur babies, to my family for service. When you need help they are there! When you need a shot, they are there or to simply drop by for something quick, they accommodate! When you need someone to hold your hand or tell it like it is, they are there! Love BOTH doctors, Dr Watson and Dr Thornton, and all the staff are great! And Buddy, well he loves jumping on the scale for a grain free treat but forget about a urine sample! Worth every penny and they got coupons either in the mail or on HEB receipt! I am sure there are vets around town with different prices, yet I prefer my family see family when sick or need a check-​up!!!

I had to put my 17 year old dachshund down two Decembers ago. She was my first dog and it was very hard for my family and me. We called them and they scheduled us an appointment the day of.
They were helpful, but what I didn’t understand was they charged us $ 35 for an initial check up with the vet. Why would a dog need a check up 15 minutes before she enters the pearly gates? I guess its protocol for a first (and last) time patient.
As much as we wanted to, we couldn’t keep her ashes in a little urn since it is rather expensive to have an individual cremation. We instead chose to have her little paw prints saved. About three weeks after she was put down, they sent us a little piece of paper with two ink paw prints. $ 100.
I guess the whole experience left a sour taste in my mouth. I wouldn’t put another dog down here, or bring any of my living ones.

I was impressed with the exception that I had to wait in the exam room with my poor cat locked in his too small cage for quite a long while. I initially thought they were unprofessional but once the doctor came in, it was all business. Mac got special attention. Still don’t know what is wrong with him but they tried and considered every avenue. Time will tell… The medicine was expensive and the visit wasn’t cheap but, once Mac gets better I will feel good about the money spent. I will continue to use them…

Best pet care in Austin! Caring and knowledgable! I’ve rescued a sweet baby, and she was unfortunately super sick with staph and Dr Watson heals seen her numerous times! Helpful and caring! Went in yesterday for another problem, saw different Doctor, just as caring and kind!!! I love the staff and they are all loving and caring about my baby! Would recommend this vet to everyone!

When we rescued a neglected Great Dane who needed immediate attention, they worked us in to their day and took such good care of her. They gave wonderful advice and truly cared about this sweet girl. We will be back!

I have a unique advantage of getting to know this clinic through the rescue group for whom I foster pups and bringing in my own dogs. First off, everyone who comes through the door is treated like they are the number one priority — both my foster dogs and personal dogs. Dr Watson helped tremendously with our Abraham, a Boxer/​Dane mix on sorting out his skin issues with Standard Process supplements and changes in his diet. He had awful patchy hair before starting this regimen and now his coat just glistens like velvet. I also have a little guy, who is petrified to go to the vet. Dr Thornton made him feel at ease and he was playing with one of the techs before we left our last visit. They also offer acupuncture which has worked wonders on some of my fragile foster dogs. Their line of Standard Process is extensive and the prices are very competitive if not cheaper than other sources I have checked out. I have and would not hesitate to recommend them to friends and family. Kudos also for giving back to the community in their work with rescue groups!

I took my 5 year old cat in for a checkup and her annual shots couple of weeks ago. Instead of simply recommending what was appropriate for a young, healthy cat who would be spending some time outside, the tech and vet tried to sell me on a topical dewormer, topical heartworm protectant, gluten free food, and supplements. The only reasonable recommendation they made was for a FeLV vaccine, which is standard for outdoor cats.
In the end, they ignored basic things such as a fairly dramatic weight change and never even took her temperature. I went home with 5 useless advertisements, and my cat went through all the stress of a vet visit for nothing.
I will say that the reception ladies were very nice, and by far the best part of my experience here.
If you want expensive homeopathy for your pet and lots of things you don’t need, this is probably the place to go. If instead you are looking for a good vet that follows established practices and doesn’t recommend nonsense, don’t waste your time here!

Horrible and bad service. I bought my dog in twice for the same problem and paid over $ 1000 and after 2 months, they said that it’s skin and allergic problem. I need to bring my dog to dermatologist. Why don’t they tell me at first and let me know. Instead of drag it for awhile and get money and now tell me they can’t treat him.
DON’T EVER GO HERE. STAY AWAY AS FAR AS YOU CAN!!!

Had a sick puppy and they got me right in! Took very good are of my little Oliver! This is our new vet!

I went in because my dog needed a check up and she had a big spider bite. Dr Kim Thornton was my vet. She explained everything with out using fancy medical talk. My dog has clicking in her knee. She broke it down as to why she has clicking knees. I bought a supplement that she suggested to help with joints and she in no way tried to force anything on me. Pleasant visit and good location.

The front desk are so rude and unhelpful. Anytime we have arrived for an appointment they ignore you and chat amongst themselves. When you do try to get their attention they act frustrated.
Vet is knowledgeable but is constantly trying to up sell products and doesn’t like to spend any time getting to know you or your animals.
We are seeking a new vet.

My dog has been going there since she was a puppy. Last weekend she got out of her crate and injured herself. They rearranged their schedule to get her into surgery quickly and called the following day to check on her. She was back to herself the very next day!

We take all of our pets here. The staff are all extremely friendly and both Dr. Thornton and Dr. Watson do a thorough job to make sure our pets are doing great. We’ve had a couple medical issues come up with our pets, and the doctors did a fantastic job diagnosing and treating the conditions.
The only negative is that they push grain free food pretty hard, so you have to know to expect it at every visit. (We don’t do it because it’s too expensive with 3 pets).

Today was a game changer. Husband took dog to vet (her eyes had been goopy and she was squinting a lot and acting a bit lethargic). The front desk lady asked him if dog had eaten any foreign objects (strange she would bring this up out of nowhere). He said, yeah she eats small twigs and grass and stuff, but nothing major. Lady suggested blood work ($ 150+) before she had even laid eyes on the dog. Husband said no.
Vet sees dog, calls husband and says that they are going to run tests on eyes and ears. Also, because the dog is lethargic and prone to eating «foreign objects,» she says they want to do blood work and an x-​ray of stomach, stating that a client brought a dog in recently who had a stomach x-​ray showing it had swallowed metal. Husband says no to expensive stomach x-​ray (after all, he had told them that she was peeing and pooping normally and we had never indicated any stomach concerns). When he declined x-​ray, vet spoke with such urgency when explaining that if dog wasn’t better by the very next day then they would definitely need to do x-​rays. He got suckered into the expensive blood work because the vet made it seem imperative.
$ 400 later and turns out the dog had an eye infection that probably would have cleared up on its own and a small yeast infection in her ear. All blood work showed was that dog’s liver enzymes were barely elevated. Google it, ask a friend – this is common and usually normal. This office will push expensive procedures that are not necessary while making you believe they are. (For example, can’t lethargy can be a symptom of an eye infection? Let’s rule that out before moving on to blood work. Also, isn’t it irrelevant to mention another dog’s metal swallowing?) If you go here, be prepared to really question what they are telling you and if you think it is necessary. Have a max price in mind, and be firm with your decisions. We will not be back, to say the least.

The staff is friendly, they know him and us well, they are very thorough and prefer natural methods of treatment.
They almost always have a coupon at our local HEB as well — which can help with the more routine visits. Very good about sending reminders for his annuals and participate in the community dog races! Shameless plug: Wylie has been top 5 two of his four years (couldn’t make it last year). :))

Because of my job I often need to talk with vet clinics about my clients’ vaccinations.
I spoke with someone from the hospital today –unfortunately I cannot recall her name– and she totally made my day. She was outstandingly caring and friendly. I had the chance to speak with many vet clinics, but whenever I had to contact them for the Rabies info, 95+% were like: How I dare to bother them with Rabies info on a busy day… or simply rude.
But she called me back and did everything and beyond to fulfill my needs ASAP.
Personally I haven’t used their services with my pets yet, but as for her, they get more than 5* from me.
P. S.: Quick reminder for all the pet owners, who want soft claws for their cats or dogs: fish doesn’t have claws. (But probably it’d be better not to get anything alive.)

I really like Tech Ridge. Dr. Watson was incredibly helpful and nice. He didn’t make me feel like a bad pet owner and offered great options for my older dog that didn’t involve surgery. He had good suggestions on diet and supplements.
I really like the holistic approach and the rest of the staff was great as well.

Brought our kitten here to get vaccinations and soft paws. The receptionists are nice enough but the vet tech kept trying to act like I was a bad pet owner for putting soft paws on the kitten. She droned on with passive aggressive remarks throughout the appointment. At the same time that the tech was acting like I was crazy for applying the $ 20 soft paws to avoid being scratched, the actual vet was pushing a $ 75 blood test because of the dangers of cat-​scratch fever. Honestly, between the two of them, I couldn’t wait to leave. When the office contacted me later for feedback, I gave it to them and rather than maybe believing me, taking my comments to heart, and actually dealing with the staff member, they were dismissive and implied that I misread the situation and that the staff was just being thorough.
Do yourself a favor, find some place else. I did.

I like my routines, and when they’re disrupted, all my radars come out and I have to isolate the problem. Granted there are times when I can’t do much — like when it involves other people’s baggage — but there’s no excuse for me to tread in denial and not resolve issues as they happen. I can always go back to entering vodka shot contests.
So the past two nights when my cat Mac didn’t greet me at the door when I’ve returned, I knew something was up. He was acting normally otherwise, eating regularly, using the box, and leaping on the bed to sleep. I found an open sore under his tail, and after he stopped hissing at me, I called his vets at Tech Ridge. They said to bring him in the next morning, right before the normal day of surgery appointments started.
I think finding a veterinary practice is like finding a family practitioner — I don’t dispute how good they are, I just want someone I have a rapport with. The Tech Ridge people like cats, my cats like them, and they’re good to their clients, which all works for me. Incidentally, I think ²⁴⁄₇ emergency clinics and the Central Texas Veterinary Specialty Hospital are completely different categories of pet care.
So it turns out Mac has a ruptured anal gland, but it sounds worse than it is; they cleaned it, gave him an antibiotic shot, gave me a flushing syringe and home instructions, and he needs to return next week for a follow-​up. This morning’s visit cost me $ 116. But I also got my peace-​of-​mind back. And Mac doesn’t mind when those folks lift his tail.
