Our old-​fashioned auto repair shop is built on family and community. Our one-​stop location has been in our family for over 30 years – we want to provide you with service like you’re part of ours.

Our full-​service auto repair shop and inspection station also provides oil change service, brake repair, and we have a gas station and car wash on site. Anything that you need done with your car, we can do here!

Owned and operated by the Newberry family, our business is dedicated to members of the local community and providing you with the best service possible.

History

Established in 1961.

Tarrytown Texaco has been in operation since late 1961, and run by the Newberry’s since the early 1980’s to present day. We have always been proud to be a local business, and continue to sponsor Casis Elementary, O. Henry Middle School, and Austin High School in most PTA fundraisers and athletic teams.

Ross N.

Business Owner

Ross Newberry began working for his father, Neal, at the family’s Texaco at the age of 15, but has been around the automotive field his entire life. On June 1st, 2010, Ross officially purchased Tarrytown Texaco from his father and hopes to continue the level of excellence that preceded him on the Windsor/​Exposition corner.

Ross, his manager Paul Sandoval, and the rest of the Tarrytown Team bring decades of automotive service experience, and always strive to serve you in a friendly manner.

While officially «semi-​retired», Neal still works every morning and is always available for automotive advice, life lessons, Tarrytown Gossip, or just plain «catching-​up.»

Took in a 2002 car for steering issues and was also asking for a high mileage inspection/​tune-​up. They said they could not replicate the steering issues — despite the issue being very obvious and reproduced by me, my wife, and grandma. They told me new cars don’t need tuneups unless there is a check engine light on. Ok, this isn’t exactly a high tech vehicle. Took it down the road to the Shell at Westover. It took them 2 minutes to diagnose the steering issue and then they asked if they should do a complimentary high mileage inspection (without any prompting) considering it «is an older car with high mileage». Have never had issues at Tarrytown Texaco in the past but this visit was a waste of my time.

Excellent service. I’ve been coming here for years. Quick inspections, friendly staff, always able to help and solve any car problems and questions you may have. Also have a full drive through car wash and Caesars Detail car wash in the back. The fact that there’s always cars coming in and out and how busy yet quick they are speaks on their popularity and loyal customer base.

I went to Tarrytown Texaco passing through after seeing a client in the area and had a engine malfunction and decided to stop at the next station I saw. Michael a polite energetic young man came to greet me. I do believe he was more concerned than I was and was very exited to discover the culprit !! It was great to hear Michael found a issue and immediately corrected the issue. He said «no charge, have a good day «I couldn’t express my gratitude ! Thank you Michael I hope I break down in your area next time my car acts up.

These guys were prompt and polite. They said they could have me out of there in 45 minutes, and they did. The main thing that gets them five stars, though, is that they made absolutely no attempt to upsell me. Every other time I’ve taken a car in for an oil change, there’s an annoying bit at the end where they try to scare me into another $ 500 worth of repairs. Not here, not a single syllable. I’m in love.

I forgot I had ever been here before. Tarrytown Texaco is just up the street from where I work, so after putting off an oil change in my beater Honda for literally months I decided to bite the bullet and give them a try.
I called ahead to find out how much they charge and when the best time to come in was. They told me oil changes are charged based on how many quarts of oil, but for a regular oil change it usually ran between $ 50 – 60, or $ 60 – 70 for a synthetic. They don’t take appointments and usually got busy around lunchtime but coming in around 8−9am usually guaranteed the fastest turnaround. It just so happened to be 8:50am when I called so I hopped in the car and drove over.
At 9:34am I am sitting back at my desk, car fully serviced, and it only cost me $ 41. The guys at the shop were super friendly and didn’t try to sell me any crazy packages or upgrades. Car is zipping around as happily as a 15-​year-​old car can!

Your down to earth local shop perfect for inspection and small problems like flat tires, dead battery, etc. These guys are so fast and charge you a fair price. There were times when it was literally ten minutes in and out for me! Just be sure to come early to beat the crowd. :)

I work just next door to Tarrytown Texaco and have been pleasantly surprised by the speed of their services and the friendliness of their staff. Also, it is one of the few places I can take my car without them trying to sell me additional services or repairs. They are straightforward in their dealings and extremely helpful. The pricing I have found to be reasonable and equitable. As a young woman, I feel extremely vulnerable to scams when I go to the mechanics, but here I am dealt with respect. I don’t think I could have found a better mechanic!

I needed a state inspection and an oil change in a hurry. I showed up right at 7am, the manager, Paul, told me he’d get them both done in about 45 minutes. When I told him I’d like to find some coffee but didn’t know the area, he offered to drive me 2 min. up the road to the Starbucks and then pick me up again when my car was done. An hour later, I was fully caffeinated and holding the inspection papers I needed to get my TX registration plates. To top it off, Paul gave me a tip on a place to get my registration done faster without standing in line at Airport Blvd. Great service, highly recommended.

My cars break failure light was on and the breaks where hitting the floor. The breaks were soft. I brought the car here to get fixed. I was told my breaks were fine. the light was just a «bulb» that goes on when your breaks are bad. but even though my pedal hit the floor floor my breaks where «fine».and it was nothing to worry about.
The guy who runs the shop here seems a bit moody and picky about what he wants to work on. The people are nice enough but something is off. I tried to explain that hey my breaks suck. I need them fixed. but it was like talking to a wall. I mean who wants to drop 350.00 450.00 unless you have no breaks and do not want to die or kill someone because your breaks wont work… place is weird… Avoid…
A simple we dont wanna work on your car would have been ok… and saved a lot of time.

I am a graduate student at UT, and went here to get the inspection of my car done. They said it was not going to pass and that they needed to check with the computer to see what was wrong with it — a process that costs $ 90 only to tell you what it is. Turns out that there were 4 things wrong with the car, and the total came up to $ 2,000 for them to fix it!!! My car is not new, but is in good condition and I had just done a general check to it a month ago, oil and filter change and everything seemed to be fine. They said (Tarrytown) it was better for me to just sell the car. I was super stressed out, I didn’t have $ 2000 for all this and the thought of having to look for another used car seemed dreadful. But I also didn’t think the car was in such a bad condition! So I took it somewhere else. The other mechanic used that computer again (for free!!!) and said that it was only one thing wrong with my car, which could be fixed with adding more coolant! He did, and then the problem was gone and I was able to pass the inspection! And this guy did all this for free!!!
I would never recommend Tarrytown to anyone! They basically stole $ 90 from me, for something that was a super easy fix, and worst, wanted to charge $ 2,000 for the ‘fix’!!
This is just outrageous!

I do not like taking my car anywhere else. Even though I’ve moved down south, I’ve found that I can take a bus to work when dropping off my car. That’s how awesome these people are.
I’ve been going to them forever and don’t plan on switching, ever.
They are very classic old school service-​like. They’ll treat you right. I’ll usually service my car for routine stuff on Saturday mornings and walk across the street to grab some coffee. After relaxing for 30 – 45 minutes, my car is ready to go.
I’ll also go in once a month for a full service gas stop — which is a great treat both for me and my car — and these guys do the best job. They truly care about you and your car. They don’t ever try to upsell you or try to convince you that your car needs a procedure that it doesn’t need.
Yes, it is a little more expensive than the nearest express cheap oil change place or the place that has an advertised special for tune ups or tire rotations — but you’re paying for excellent service and no bull, which is definitely worth it!

When I moved here, they took care of my smog and registration transfer docs in swift, friendly, and professional fashion.
What made me really glad I found this place, was that they gave me the info on a place where I could get my new Texas truck plates without the monster wait at DPS — an auto title service place not far from here. Ask the fella at the Texaco front desk and he’ll hook you up too.

I wouldn’t even think of taking my car anywhere else. They have always provided good, reliable, honest and friendly service at a fair price. Having a mechanic that I trust is priceless in terms of the peace of mind it provides.
Also…they used to give out free pogs when I was a kid.
