Style Encore North Austin

I found the staff inattentive to clientele; too attentive to one another. Offerings were subpar at best — irrellivent to fashion-​conscious Austinites. Ho humm…

Great prices amazing selection and so so excited that I get 20% off more often than not with their little stamp card I always fill up. This is by far the only spot I go to for work clothes and the like. They have great buyers that really pick out good stuff.

Have to echo what others have said – not the place to go if you want to sell things. I, too, brought in very recent items, almost all from Chicos, many still with tags on. Some Dooney and Bourke purses – in perfect shape, luscious leather — they took NONE of the Chicos, and only one of the non-​branded purses. I got the the same claim others got: «not current style” — these were the Chico’s cotton type jackets, not the Traveller’s stuff, and all very recent purchases. Brand new shoes – one was a Taryn Rose pair of plain black pumps-​Brand new, cost $ 250 and I could not wear after a foot problem. They were not interested in them! Hard to imagine how a top-​end leather pair of unadorned black pumps could be out of date. The young man there was super friendly. I thought they took career clothes, but it appears that they do not. I have to agree with another poster’s assessment: they just do not know high-​end labels. Teenaged staff with teenage tastes was my conclusion. I won’t be going back there. Once I realized they were related to Plato’s closet, I knew it would be a big fail, and sure enough it was when I went over to learn the results of my submissions. They won’t even tell you anything over the ‘phone about if they are talking anything.

As far as the service goes it’s still hit or miss when I’ve gone in. the only reason I’m giving 4 stars is because on Instagram they reply super quick and post great items. also on black Friday the owner helped my husband out as I had to work that morning and sent him in for some stuff and he said she was great and helped him find what he needed even though the store was crazy. I super appreciate that she was so helpful to him. The only sucky thing is they don’t hold I work a lot so if they did hold items I would buy so much more from them.

Alright so before you sell your clothes here or any other resale shop, do know that it all truly depends on who looks through your items. You could bring 2 totes in today and after «Bob» looks through them will offer you x amount for certain items and tomorrow «Sue» will look through those same items and offer you xx amount for certain items that were passed up before. Crazy but that’s just how it goes.
In case you weren’t aware, Style Encore is a franchise you can buy into. The corporation that sales this chain also sells Plato’s Closet and Once Upon A Child. This means that all these chains have different owners but they all follow the same policies and have the same POS system. This groovy system allows them to enter the item’s brand and size and it will then determine the 30% pay out. When you go to get your offer they will show you a print out of the breakdown (except at the children’s store) but you can’t keep it.
With all of this in mind I have been selling here since they opened their doors. I have sold Designer Purses, Wallets, Clothing, and Shoes. They know me and I have a groovy (never expires) discount card there. Yesterday they were a bit swamped but happily took my 4 totes and 2 hours later I came in and picked them up and $ 165. I was told to take the rest to Plato’s Closet as it had brands for younger women.
They work hard to move merchandise around and have new displays. At the end of each rack there are clearance items. The prices are fantastic whether your buying for yourself, a friend, or to resale elsewhere. The only reason they get 4 stars is their lack of a true plus size section. It’s really non existence and they only carry 1X — 3x, and plus size sizing is more than that. Their selection on plus size is truly less than a handful in each category.

Super friendly staff – they try to build a rapport with each person who walks in the door. I sold a handful of clothing items earlier today and received almost $ 150 cash. The staff explains the reasoning for purchasing certain items – along with the items they choose not to purchase.
There are some great designer pieces at Style Encore – especially the bags! I’m a Tory Burch fan and they have a lot of her designs. I prefer this store over any of the other businesses who buy back clothing. I will definitely keep visiting this location!

I have been to this place a couple of times as a seller, when they first opened they were really awesome and sweet! but the last couple times they have changed. It is a very uncomfortable feeling in there, the last time I went in there the store manager and one of the associates were laughing and talking about something the moment I walked in the store they went quiet and looked down and completely ignored me while I stood at the counter, until I told them I was there to pick up a few things.
I’m trying to figure out what they are looking for, what they buy is quite confusing, I take practically brand new clothes in (I get bored easily) their excuse is always, wear and tear and younger styles. which are both b. s excuses but I won’t dwell on that,
Another problem is the store manager, or I think she is the store manager or the owner, she is very very very rude, she always seems disinterested in helping people and her friendliness comes off as very fake. I once went in there during a confrontation with an ex-​coworker or customer, I’m not to sure and she didn’t hold her composure well at all, the whole scenario was unprofessional how she dealt with it from beginning to end, she practically publically humiliated the girl and even after everything was over it seemed as if she was taking the drama off on me.
I wanted to support this place because it is local, but unfortunately, the customer service there is lacking and I would prefer to take my business elsewhere.

I’ve purchased several items from this store over the past month and a half and have been very pleased with the selection and quality of items offered. I was, until today, also pleased with the customer service, but hoo boy, did that change!
Last week I purchased some necklaces from the store and, after testing them against a few things from my wardrobe at home, decided that they didn’t work as well as as I’d hoped. So I went back to the store today with receipt in hand, ready to return them.
There should have been no problem with this. The store’s return policy, as printed on the bottom of the receipt and written on signs throughout the store, EXPLICITLY states that returns are allowed within 7 days on everything except clearance items and footwear as long as you have the original receipt and the items still have their tags on them. My return met all of those conditions, so imagine my surprise when I handed my items to the clerk and she informed me that «Sorry, all jewelry items are final sale.»
Huh. That’s interesting. Because in looking around the store I see no where, not ONE SINGLE PLACE, where that vital piece of information is posted. It’s not on the signs by the jewelry stand. It’s not on the return policy sign behind the counter. It’s certainly not on the printed return policy at the bottom of the receipt. You’d think that if that was a store policy it would be communicated in such a way that customers are able to see it BEFORE they buy an item, rather than being informed of it at the register so they, like I, can be flabbergasted by what appears to be a completely arbitrary policy.
I expressed as much to the clerk, even pointing out the prominent sign right above her head that stated returns were allowed on EVERYTHING except clearance items or footwear. She agreed that given there was no indication of this policy prior to purchase whatsoever, the manager would probably be willing to offer an exception. Nope! I was offered store credit or an exchange, period.
And the real kicker is, the manager didn’t even attempt to apologize for the store’s failure to state the full return policy. All I got was a «sorry for the confusion.» No, the only confusion is that whoever operates that store seems to have missed lesson #1 of good business practices, which is «don’t lie to your customers.» And if you get caught in a lie, own up to it and make it right.
«Too bad, so sad,» is not the answer I should have gotten from Style Encore today, but it’s certainly the answer I’ll be giving them from this day forward. I was looking forward to making this my go-​to clothing store in Austin, but I think I’ll direct my funds– and my recommendations– to businesses with more honest practices.

Style encore does not allow you to use punch discount cards for current purchase. It has to be on your next purchase. I used to refer people to this store but no long will due to the customer service.

I love a good deal and discounts so I’m all about the secondhand store. Unfortunately, I’ve been here a few times and end up leaving empty handed. It is definitely a hit or miss store. I do like that they have higher end clothing as compared to Plato’s Closet (Kate Spade, Michael Kors, Kendra Scott, Lululemon, etc). Their inventory also seems to be mostly business casual. I like their selections of jewelry and shoes.
The store is also very clean and it’s easy to search through all the racks. The racks are also color coded which makes finding what you need easier. The staff is always very friendly and helpful.
They offer a rewards card to earn discounts on your future purchase. It’s a store worth looking at if you are in the area.

I called asking whether they buy clothes on Sundays. The immediate response was NO. Followed by silence. I then asked if they buy clothes any other days and if so, what times. Again, a very put off response of «no, we aren’t.» Wow, way to make a potential new client interested in coming in at a later date. I understand stores get full with inventory and sometimes there’s a holding period, but their staff needs training in phone etiquette.

Highly recommend this place over plato’s closet if you’re looking to sell. Very friendly staff. They offered to buy 7 items from me for $ 74.89. They took a coach and a Michael Kors purse which is not surprising but the clothing items they took came as a surprise to me. They offered to buy a few banana republic factory tanks and a junior dress from Dillard’s but not any of the loft dresses I had in pretty new condition. What I liked most about this place is that they gave a receipt with the prices broken down for each individual item they’re willing to buy. Whereas at other stores you’re just given a total dollar amount for all the items. Overall very satisfied with the costumer service but can’t quite figure out the items they’re willing buy yet. Give them a try if you’re in the Austin area and have some used clothes or purses to sell.

I finally made it to Style Encore today. I have been excited to check it out since they opened because I live in Allandale and loved the idea of a great resale shop in my neighborhood. This is a mixed review, but ultimately I have given it 3 stars for now because I probably won’t shop here much. I want to say first that the staff members were very friendly, the store was clean, and things were well-​organized. My disappointment was really with the inventory. The clothing was not at all what I was expecting — many items were very outdated, I noticed several items with holes in them (really!), and most of the styles were from lower-​end brands. I so wanted to find something to buy, and couldn’t find anything! After a great deal of digging I occasionally found items from J. Crew-​type brands or Nordstrom/Dillard’s-level designers, but none were recent. I understand that stores like this try to keep a varied inventory, but perhaps sometimes in trying to keep a broad range of styles means that the quality of the inventory suffers (?).
One possible explanation of why that inventory is so disappointing is their buying procedures. I brought a basket of clothing to sell, hoping that I would find some cute clothes to replace them. I donated most of my clothing to ARC, but I held onto about15 things… some still had tags and the rest were in like-​new condition, all were from within the last year, and they were from J. Crew, Banana Republic, Anne Taylor, Anthropologie, Nordstrom, and Dillards. I made sure all were steamed and ironed. I am a 30-​year-​old woman with a professional wardrobe. I was surprised by the items that they bought and the ones they passed on (they passed on literally brand-​new-​tags-​on items from Nordstrom, J. Crew, and Banana Republic, and unworn pairs of Antonio Melani and Clarks-​Indigo heels, but bought a few lower-​quality shirts.) Not a big deal — I know many of these places are looking for really specific things based on inventory, etc. I was happy to sell the items they wanted and donate the remainder.
As I said, the staff were all very friendly and the store was clean. I guess my recommendation for would be for them to take a look at the processes for acquiring and maintaining inventory… seeking out new or recent, stylish (good brands), quality (excellent shape) clothing, and making sure the staff who do the buying know what to look for. I know this is what they say they do, but I’m not sure from what I saw today that is always the case.
I had hoped that Style Encore would be a neighborhood shop where I could buy/​sell/​trade up-​to-​date, cute, high-​quality clothing, but I am sad to say that I probably won’t buy or sell here much in the future. In my opinion there are many resale clothing stores in Austin with a better selection of clothing that actually benefit a good cause (Goodwill, Next to New, Top Drawer, etc.).

I’m in love. You have to wade through a LOT of Ann Taylor and Kohl’s brand stuff, but there are some serious gems here. A nice pair of Frye boots for only $ 50. A brand new J Crew sweater (with tags!) for $ 4. A gorgeous Jason Wu dress for $ 60. Just like any other thrift store, you have to approach with the time and patience to dig through the racks, but the staff is pretty meticulous about making sure they’re well organized.
Staff is also significantly friendlier than their little sister, Plato’s Closet. And significantly more fair in purchasing items, although still just as picky. (One woman told me she saw «a lot of 2009 pieces» in my bag, but I weighed 70 lbs more in 2009 and all I wore were thrift store peasant skirts and Old Navy tanks/​cardis, so I don’t know where she was getting that.) But they still gave me $ 26 for just four items, which got me two pairs of shoes and enough leftover cash to run next door to Lammes for a piece of fudge.

Swung by here to sell after Plato’s closet recommended them to me after not taking some of my career wear. I was a bit surprised at what they ended up taking and what they didn’t take, but overall I was happy to unload some things.
They ended up taking Cynthia Rowley, Gap, Halogen and Loft items from me. They passed on Talbots, Banana Republic, Chico’s and some other like-​new items I have. As a seller, this was a bit confusing for me because I thought for sure they’d take a lot more of the brands I brought in.
Their age range to me seems very specific for sellers. It’s like right out of college but before age 30 clientele, at least based on what they took.
Overall, I was happy though. They took 5 items and I got $ 21.05, which seems about par for the course. Buyers were very nice, and it only took about 45 minutes. The store was big and friendly. Would recommend as a seller.

If you have cleaned out your closet or just want to revamp your style on the cheap, this place is the must go-​to!
I love to come and sell my clothing, shoes, and purses here because they always give me a fair payout.
It can be a bit hit or miss on the inventory, but that is the nature of the resale beast, but if you are looking for name brands at decent prices, come here.
I love to peruse while they are looking through my stuff to sell. You can even drop off your stuff and come back before they close the same day, they will have your offer waiting for you, which is not something I have found at other resale stores.
You can even get a punch card to earn discounts everytime you shop and/​or sell with them!

Great prices especially many clearance items for a few dollars. The clothes are in excellent shape and many business appropriate attire. I haven’t sold anything here but my coworkers did and they got a pretty penny for their clothes. Very nice personalized staff.

Hit or miss. Styles are mostly cheaper mall brands — think Gap, Old Navy, Kohl’s. My biggest concern was how many items were damaged. That cute pair of Clark’s? The strap was slashed in two, and not in a way that could be fixed. How did the buyer miss that? That cute sweater? Lots of pilling and is that a rip on the collar?
I felt like I was digging at the Goodwill or Salvation Army. Sure there were some gems, and I would let a teenager loose in here, but for business apparel, I couldn’t find enough in good quality. Prices were ok, but I can do just as well on the clearance rack at the original store. And I’d still have to look for snags.
The accessories wall was pretty great and they have a lot of hoochy heels. The «designer» items were basically corralled into a few lonely little spots. But if you like a good hunt, try them out.

I love recycled clothing. I have a shopping problem, and I often want to switch out stuff in my closet. I love Style Encore because you can do it on a budget! It’s a sister company of Plato’s Closet, but with higher end clothing. Less American Eagle, Forever 21, GAP… More BCBG, Marc Jacobs, Michael Kors, etc.
The store is very organized according to clothing type, sizes, and colors. I found that items with the original price tag on were marked higher, and I guess rightfully so. I bought a white Banana Republic lace dress for $ 25, and a pair of Hudson jeans for $ 30, which both are in excellent condition. There are only 5 fitting rooms, so they had a woman making a list and calling peoples names. It didn’t take long, and there is no limit for garments.
I have not sold here, but I assume they are like the others: picky and don’t give you squat for your items. But I don’t mind, it’s a great addition to the Allendale neighborhood.

I wonder how many of my reviews start out «so I won this contest». This is one of those. So I won a $ 50 gift card to Style Encore from a local radio station. They just opened and I could not wait to check out the merchandise.
The store is very well organized. They have sleeveless shirts, then short sleeves, then dresses, then it goes on. Everything is arranged by size and then by color which makes it perfect if you know what you are looking for, and just plain fun if you don’t. They also have shoes, purses, jewelry. If you look you can find some amazing deals. I bought a brand new pair of Bruno Menegatti clogs for $ 31! Never been worn! The owner said she bought some from a boutique that had over bought and so she had quite a few pair. I also bought a pair of Spring Step sandals for $ 18. They look like they were worn maybe twice. Such a steal!
On the other hand I saw some well worn Michael Kors shoes that I thought were overpriced at $ 55.
I tried on a few clothes and since most of the shirts are $ 5-​$ 20 you can find some real bargains.
I believe this has become my go to second hand store.
