This office is great! Very professional and knowledgeable. Dr. Van Wicklen and his hygienist Kirsten were so helpful and met all my dental needs. I would highly recommend this office. The front office staff was great as well. If you are looking for a great dental experience this would be the place.

Steve and his staff are the best! I have been going to him for years and he is truly a talented dentist. I’ve had root canals, caps, fillings, etc. Plus he’s just an all around good guy.

My boss recommended Dr. Van Wicklen when I was looking for a new dentist. His office made scheduling and filling paper work easy so that when I showed up I was seen immediately. My last two visits I haven’t had to wait more than 10 minutes. The staff is very friendly and personable. Kristen who was assisting me on my first visit was very funny and made me feel comfortable. I’ve gotten two fillings and my annual check up. Dr. Van Wicklen has made it a pleasant and painless experience.

Getting a crown done now. I sat in my seat only to realize I forgot my earbuds. I mentioned it and Dr. Van Wicklen said «let me see if I have some in my briefcase» He came back with a small case containing a new set of Apple earbuds! Wow. Talk about going the extra mile. Incredibly generous. Excellent, friendly and caring staff too!

On a Sunday afternoon in March, I cracked a molar while eating some tortilla chips and went through the dreaded task of finding a dentist. We had just moved to Austin the previous month, and on top of not really knowing anyone, I also don’t have dental insurance. I was afraid I would need a crown, but had such a terrible experience getting a crown with a previous dentist, I wanted to find someone well-​rated for that work. I was happy to find a couple of dentists in the area who create same-​day crowns using CEREC technology (3-​D imaging and no impressions!) so I decided to visit Dr. Van Wicklen in case I needed a crown. I called Monday morning and was able to get in at 10am the same day, and I was able to fill out the necessary forms online prior to my appointment. To my surprise and great relief, he said he felt he could save the tooth with a filling and promptly, skillfully, and painlessly went about getting that done. It was done very quickly and expertly, and I nearly cried with gratitude that Dr. Van Wicklen repaired my tooth in the least expensive manner when he could have insisted on selling me a crown. The receptionist and assistants in his office were very pleasant, and I felt I’d made an excellent choice. I will go to Dr. Van Wicklen for future dental visits and recommend him highly!

I have been going to Dr. Van Wicken since 1987. I’ve lived in Houston for the last 22 years, and I still go to Dr. VW which should tell you something.
Rhonda, the dental hygienist, has cleaned my teeth for nearly twenty years, and she shames every other hygienist I’ve ever seen. I used to require gas to get me through other dental office visits, but at Dr. VW’s office, I don’t find gas necessary.
In addition, the ladies who run the office and support the doctors are friendly as well as professional. They make your visit as pleasant as possible, and I confess that I always look forward to seeing Dr. Van Wicklen’s staff.

Dr Van Wicklen and his staff were great during a recent emergency visit to their office on South Lamar. I was in severe pain from a fractured tooth. They got me in quickly and addressed the issue immediately. The office is pleasant and modern with a nice view out the windows. Dr Van Wicklen does a great job of setting you at ease and providing top notch dentistry. I will recommend this office to all my friends and family.

I have seen Dr. Van Wicklen and his staff way more often than I would have liked to in the past few years, but that’s hardly their fault. It’s not rocket science that flossing your teeth prevent cavities and therefore fillings. I just don’t do it. They’re very kind about it, unlike some dentists I’ve been to. The hygenists are sweet and careful. All of the staff are very organized, friendly, and helpful, even when you, say, miss an appointment, or forget to bring your insurance information with you. Hypothetically.
Re-​reading this I’m not sure why they haven’t fired me as a patient yet.
Does Dr. Van Wicklen consistently bring up Invisalign with me? Of course he does, it would make him some money, and he’s running a business. He doesn’t bring it up in a rude or hard-​sell way and to be honest if the Invisalign fairy brought me enough money to pay for it, I’d do it. But there are a few things like a mortgage in between me and that kind of cosmetic spending.
They’re internet-​savvy which is really nice. His office also recommended a good pediatric dentist when my young child chipped a tooth, so I’ll always be grateful to them for that as well.

I had a cavity filled yesterday by Dr. Van Wicklen and was reminded why I’ve gone to him for so many years. He’s really good! I don’t like going to the dentist, but Dr. Van Wicklen and his staff make getting fillings and crowns as easy and painless as possible. They understand the anxiety many of us have about dental procedures. All of the staff, from the front office to the hygienists, are friendly and professional. It’s obvious that Dr. Van Wicklen runs a good practice because his staff seem very happy working there. I also appreciate that they text me with appt. reminders.
Over the years, I’ve gone through periods without dental insurance and also changed insurance carriers multiple times. Dana, their long-​time office manager, has always been very helpful in helping me navigate the world of insurance and answer my questions.
I would recommend Dr. Van Wicklen and his team to anyone looking for an excellent dentist, as well as a great staff!

You really don’t get any better than Dr. Van Wicklin and his staff. I have been a lifelong dentalphobe. I used to require gas to even tolerate a routine cleaning. I cannot say enough good things about this practice. My former roommate used to work for Dr. Van Wicklen and I know that he is as good to his employees as he is to his patients; which speaks volumes as far as I’m concerned. I am now a patient of Dr. Van Wicklen after entirely too many years of not seeing a dentist.
I know I need a lot of work done, but Dr. V was so honest with me about what was necessary immediately and what I could get away with waiting on. This was so refreshing after having seen another dentist just three weeks prior who told me that if I didn’t spend $ 4000 getting everything done that he recommended, I would likely have to have teeth pulled. I also have a crown on my front tooth which for 12 years has caused major gum inflammation and unsightly discoloration, I have always mentioned this to dentists and they have never acknowledged that it was a problem. They have told me to keep flossing and it should clear up but it has only gotten worse. I think that no one until now has known what the problem was so basically just blew it off. Dr. Van Wicklen was the first dentist to acknowledge the severity of the problem, and set me up for a consultation with his periodontist in order to start the process of fixing it, this was such a relief.
The support staff is excellent as well, friendly and knowledgeable every step of the way. The hygienist pretty much knew exactly what the doctor was going to recommend even before he had done his exam, and the girls at the front were super personable and helpful.
Great experience all around, cannot recommend them highly enough!

Dr. Van Wicklen is a great guy and by far the best dentist I have ever been to see. I began seeing him back in 1991 when I was seven, I had to go to a few different dentists during my college years and the experiences with those other dentists were horrible compared to Dr. Van Wicklen.
He’s a really genuine guy who does a great job and is really careful with his patients.
I have no clue what the lady below with the bad review is talking about. Her review is far from the experiences I have had when visiting Dr. Van Wicklen.

I have been seeing Dr. Van Wicklen for about two years now. Dr. Van Wicklen is such a cool guy. There are a lot of dentists that tend to be overly aggressive in their treatment plans. Dr. V.W. does quality dentistry and just what is necessary – not doing crowns, etc when not needed.
I have been to both the hygienists (Rhonda & Kirsten) and they are awesome as well. They front office staff is very friendly and professional. You can tell it is a good place to work by the attitude of the staff.
I recently had a crown done and the best thing is that he has CEREC so the crown can be done same day! That means not having to deal with a temporary crown or having two appts.
They are also always on schedule. I highly recommend this office, you won’t be disappointed!

Dr. Van Halen (Wicklen) is the best. Head and shoulders above the other dentists I have used in my 38 years. Rhonda, my dental hygienist is also stellar. I have had my teeth drilled on w/​no local anesthetic and I never felt a thing. I hate needles too… so this was amazing. I have been a client for years. If you need a great dentist, go see Dr. Van Halen. That person below w/​the bad review, ignore that. Not true at all. If you want to email me personally, I will stand behind what I say. Who likes the dentist? Not me. But I have to say that after finding this Dentist and working with his staff I have no reservations about going anymore. They are laid back and the whole place has a nice vibe about it. He takes his time explaining things and I have never felt any of the shots I have gotten… added bonus for sure.
