Stanley Steemer of Austin, TX

They failed to show up and called well past the service window. The manager called 2 days later only after my request. He offered a 10% coupon. I have used SS many times, but their service has eroded over the years. The local management is not able solve problems or be proactive when they know they can’t make it on time. This review is based on my last three experiences with Austin SS. I can’t go back to them until they can prove local management cares about their customers.

Service was terrible. They came and picked up a rug to clean. Was to get it back middle of the next week. Did not hear from them. Monday of last week they had to find rug only to tell us it had not been cleaned yet. Would get it by Friday. Nothing from them. Was told Friday evening it would be delivered today ⁰⁵⁄₃₁ between 8 – 5. It is 6:25 pm and no rug. Called and they say it is on it’s way. Worse business I have ever dealt with. Two weeks. Sit at home for 9 hours today 8 – 5 and it’s still not here. One star is way too generous for them. 78 620. Wife Dana was dealing with them.

Had these guys out twice to clean slate floor. They missed all of the detail stuff. One additional star for willingness to come back out and redo it, but seriously? See the photo… That some serious nastiness that never got touched in two passes!

Very disappointed. Had one-​year-​old carpet cleaned in a rental unit I own on ⁴⁄₇ as a make-​ready for rental. The tenant took possession on ⁴⁄₂₃. Before she even moved her furniture in, she used her steam cleaner and pulled out three canisters of nasty water. In the two weeks and two days between Stanley Steemer’s service and the tenant taking possession, no one had even walked on the carpet (other than briefly showing the place). The Stanley Steemer manager I talked to refused do anything, such as consider a partial refund or company credit. As I told him, I did MY part. I showed up and let the team in, left them to do their job, and showed up at the end to pay them. I don’t think they did THEIR job. I’ll be finding another service for the next time.

I was totally dissatisfied with the tile and grout cleaning job that Stanley Steamer provided. I am 65 years old and no longer wished to get down on my knees to clean my grout. Stanley Streamer was scheduled and within 3 mins. of entering my home the team tried to sell me on a grout cover up product for double the price of just cleaning the tile and grout for an additional $ 400. Refusing this option I reaffirmed my desire to just have my grout cleaned so I wouldn’t have to do it myself. Well they got their tile cleaning machine out, finishing going over all the floor without moving the frig. or stove. When asked the team they stated that they didn’t do that. My complaint then was I asked for all my tile to be cleaned not just some of it. The team started to pack up seeming to leave so I thought it would be a good time to inquire as to how they were planning on cleaning the grout. Their reply was that it was clean. I protested as it was obviously not clean. Their reply was that the grout was stained, not, «Oh, you’re not happy? Let me go over it again.» So here I am having paid near $ 300 for having some of my tile cleaned and still having to get down on my hands and knees to clean the grout myself, which I than did. Looks good now. Stanley Steamer upon my complaint was going to arrange a rescheduled appointment probably to sell me the grout cover up to, quote unquote, satisfy me. Never again.

Stephan and Chris cleaned almost my entire house today (carpet and tile). They did a fantastic job! They were thorough, courteous, and professional. My house hasn’t looked this good since I moved in. I would highly, highly recommend them!

Pretty consistent with the quality of their service even though the crews are never the same. Scheduling has always been excellent. Have used them since 1984 — believe it or not!

They have a C+ rating with the Better Business Bureau, I wish I checked that before I hired them. They also damaged our furniture and when I reported the damage to the branch manager, he immediately dismissed my claim (as if they are perfect and make no mistakes). Will be taking them to small claims court.

I had Stanley Steemer come out and pick up an area rug for cleaning. It was scheduled to be returned in 5 days (the day my 10 guests were coming to stay for the holidays) They did not come out at the appointed time and when I called I was told they didn’t know it was supposed to be returned that day. After becoming upset with them because I had company coming, they said they would bring it because it was supposedly ready. The carpet was very wet and smelled awful! I had them take it back. I did not hear from them again for 4 weeks!!! I repeatedly called and left messages, but no one returned my calls. They have NO CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! Do not use the Austin, TX Stanley Steemer!

LIES! LIES! LIES!
This is my second carpet cleaning with Stanley Steemer. The first round went fine, so when I arranged the recent appointment, I requested the same crew as last time. I was told that had been arranged. That was NOT the case. I explained my extreme asthma, and need for NO fragrance of ANY kind to the new crew. I explained that the previous crew rinsed the carpet with a second pass of just water/​steam to remove any soap residue. «No problem» they said. I asked for the enzyme treatment that did not have any smell (like before). I was told the enzyme treatment had a lavender scent, that would dissipate after 3 days. The previous crew had provided the bottle of enzyme treatment they used for me to smell that had no scent prior to usage. It was now explained to me that was not what would be used this time, and if I wanted the no-​stink enzyme treatment, I could purchase a bottle for $ 16 and use it myself. This prompted a call to the Stanley Steemer 1 – 800 number to find out what went so horribly wrong. I was assured that I would be made happy, and a message would be sent to the manager for him to call me. When the crew leader returned from his truck to inform me that he was out of the no-​stink enzyme treatment, I was promised a call from the «manager» as well. Needless to say, no calls ever came. The crew continued with the work (no enzyme treatment). When finished, I was asked to look over the carpet. It did not look any cleaner, just wetter. The crew leader then proceeded to tell me that he did the whole job with JUST water per my instructions. WHAT? No, no, no. He explained that rinsing the soap out of the carpet was an extra step that could not be done. He said the deep steam cleaning was a truly effective cleaning method, and that the steam removed 95% of the dirt/​allergens. Since I signed the promise to pay prior to the work starting, I paid the man while his partner sat in my driveway and honked his horn. I planned to discuss this unfortunate exchange of NON SERVICES with the manager when he called. He never did. $ 107 to wet my carpet and piss me off. Just great. I want my money back since I didn’t get ANYTHING for my money. I borrowed my mother’s Hoover home carpet cleaner, and cleaned the family room carpet myself. The water was filthy. There was no way the steam cleaning did anything. Do yourself a favor, buy a home carpet cleaner, and do it yourself. Save the hassle and aggravation.

They did a great job in finishing our entire house flooring in one day! we had wax residue built up on some of the engineered wooden floors and they did an amazing job in making our floor look nice and shiny again. I highly recommend them. I tried other flooring steamer businesses but I never been a fan of any of them. Stanley definitely stands out with their outstanding performance and their staff is very friendly and responsive to all your needs. My wooden floors look as good as new. They also did my tile flooring.

We had Travis & Manuel clean our carpet & rugs. I scheduled this appointment online & took advantage of the 3 room special & added 2 rugs. They did a good job cleaning but when they told me what I owed I knew it wasn’t right. According to Travis there was no change or alteration in my bill. Since I couldn’t find my invoice, I paid them. That night I found my invoice showing they had cheated me $ 40.00. I have called 4 times asking to speak to a manager & even called the Corporate Office. One manager called me back asking me to scan & email my invoice (even though he had a copy of it). The email was incorrect. It doesn’t appear that this company is interested in customer service.

The crew of De Juan and James did an OUTSTANDING job at my place yesterday. Had scheduled a carpet cleaning with their special of 3 rooms for $ 99 which in and of itself is a great deal, but then decided to go with upholstery cleaning after they demonstrated the muck in my couch. My furniture is now like new again! They both worked their butts off! They both were extremely service oriented and friendly. I’ve tried other carpet cleaners (see my other Unilocal reviews) but Stanley Steemer is by far the BEST. No need to go anywhere else. Ask for this crew!

Had the same crew clean the carpets as previously. Did a good job as usual.
I decided when calling for the appointment to add tile cleaning and clear sealing. The phone person said the tile would be sprayed, then the grout scrubbed, then washed then dried and the grout sealed. The first two steps of cleaning tile seemed to be skipped (I was sitting 10 feet away) but the wash/​dry vacuum cleaner was run over all the tile. He then came back and put something on the grout lines. When he was finished he said I should expect the grout might appear spotty as he said the grout dries at different rates. It certainly was spotty — like polka dots. I let it go for 5 days before calling. I was sure it was not normal. After paying hundreds of dollars I couldn’t find any reasonable explanation and wanted an expert to view it.
I set up an appointment for two days later and told them I would be home from work about 5pm. My husband called at 4:45 to tell me they had arrived. I arrived home 10 minutes later to find their van parked in my driveway so I could not pull into my garage.
They had their hoses out and stretched into the house through the open front door. No thought was given to the fact that I had two indoor only cats, just that they didn’t think they’d seen a cat go by their van.
Once I determined the frightened cats were safely hidden under the bed, I turned my attention to the tile grout problem. Consulting with the crew leader and he with his manager lead us to determine this was not normal and should not have happened. (Duh!)
After much back and forth and my refusing to pay for removal (correction) of the clear grout sealer, they agreed to rescrub the tile and grout (properly this time) which removed the clear sealer. They did not offer to refund the $ 150 for the clear sealer, but did offer to add a color sealer for about $ 500. No thanks!
So if you want good carpet cleaning, use them. But pass on the tile cleaning and grout sealing as you’ll likely be wasting your money.

We had our carpets clean by Travis and Manuel. Also had our furniture clean too. They did a awesome job. I will be glad to have them come again.

I will never use Stanley Steemer again! Worst in customer service!
I came home Thursday after work to find my water heater had broken and leaked into one of my bedrooms and hallway. I remembered I saw a SS truck around the corner so I went over to ask the technician, Jorge F., for an estimate. He came over, gave me the estimate and I agreed to get the work done. He said he would try to be by later that night to get started. He called me at 8pm, told me he wouldn’t be able to make it until morning. Friday morning 10:30, I haven’t seen him, so called the technician, he said he’s running behind and wouldn’t be here until around 2pm. He still doesn’t show up around 2pm. So I call him again to find out where he is, I leave a message, and texted him. He does not return my messages. Saturday afternoon, 1pm, I texted him again for an ETA. Still no return call from Jorge. So I decided to call the main line to find out whats going on. Come to find out, I am not in their system. So rather than calling a different company to help me, I decide to stay with Stanley Steemer, make another arrangement for service, they said they would call when someone was on their way. Saturday at 8:30pm SS calls to tell me someone is one their way. So I turn my porch light on, I wait, I wait, I wait…11:30pm NOBODY shows.
Sunday morning I call the main number again, they give me a estimated range of time of sometime between 11am and 3pm. NOBODY shows within that time frame!!! I don’t want to call another company because they would put me at the end of their list and it would be that much longer. There had been a flood a few days earlier, which I’m sure everyone was busy with, but was not mentioned until my sunday call that SS was busy with that. At this point, I’ve given up calling. Some kid shows up at 5:30pm sunday evening, cannot answer any of my questions, seems to be very nervous, and is calling someone to find out where to put the fans and humidifiers. I let him know before he leaves that they cannot come by tomorrow until after I get off of work, since I took all day Friday off to meet with them and no one showed. He makes a note of it on my invoice.
Monday, around 10am, while I’m at work, SS calls to tell me they are picking up the equipment! NO, NO, NO!!! I cannot get off of work, I am paying a day’s rental for their equipment, I deserve the equipment to be working 24 hours (1 day), not 16 hours!
When I get home after work, I find out that one of the humidifiers is not working AND my insurance adjustor mentioned that the other humidifier in the garage is useless because its only sucking in humid air from the outside!
Jorge finally shows up to see how things are going. I let him know about the humidifiers, and he knows how angry I am for waiting 4 days with wet carpet and no communication from SS. He wanted to rearrange the fans and change out the humidifiers and run them another day. I said, «forget it! I am getting another company to finish the job!»
Jorge was apologetic. I asked for a refund on the humidifier, and Jorge said that because the carpets are still wet and the problems you had I will refund you the humidifier and two fans, but I’ll have to get my manager to call you tomorrow morning because he can’t do it there at the house.
Manager calls me the next morning, and the ONLY refund he gives me is the humidifier! WHATEVER! I can’t believe the horrible service all around! And also, Jorge assured me that I would not have a mold problem after 4 days of no SS service. I’ve never heard that it can be as long as 4 days for mold not to grow! Its usually a 48-​hour turn around time for mold to start growing!
I got a new service out to my house, SERVPRO, who has treated me courteously and professionally! They have called me each time to let me know they were en route to my house! They actually pulled the base boards out and my carpet up to let the fans run underneath and actually found that my walls in the utility room needed care as well, which SS didn’t even notice!

They did a good job and were right on time.

I must say I have never had anyone come clean my carpet ever. My husband usually does it with our shampooer but I am so glad I called Stanley Steemer. Shawn and Stephen were very thorough. They did a fantastic job on our carpet, and stairs. They left the carpets smelling so clean it looks like new. They also cleaned our love seat and did an impeccable job, my sofa is microfiber material and I thought it would be damaged with the cleaners but it looks awesome and smells wonderful. They are very knowledgeable in what they do. I will call them back to do my tile. They were very nice,
and not pushy on the sales. They offered me a package and then reminded me of it once more, gathered their equipment and left. Thank you Shawn and Stephen, I will have you guys come back again.

Had my carpets cleaned this weekend by Stanley Steamer and am very satisfied, not only by the cleaning, but by the service provided by Shawn and his partner. They were very professional, personable, and respectful. They explained everything well and offered advice/​additional offerings that they could provide. Not pushy or invasive, just let me know they could take care of these items now, or at a future time. I was NOT planning on adding anything to my service but because of the customer service went ahead and purchased the spot treatment spray and a front door mat. Thank you from a satisfied customer! I will be calling them for all of my services in the future!
