Wally is really good at what he does! He is very knowledgeable about Chinese medicine and my migraines have pretty much disappeared. I really feel he is passionate about what he does and really wants to help people. This is part of my «me time» Saturday routine. My body goes into a deep state of relaxation during the treatment which is much needed as I have a pretty busy and stressful schedule. I highly recommend seeing Wally as an alternative to Western medicine which is not the healthiest thing for the body. Also, Rachel, the receptionist, is very friendly and welcoming. :)

This is such a scam. I’m sorry but putting me in a room for an hour with 6 needles in me saying it’s going to help with back pain and other things is a lie. All it did was make me feel super awkward. Clearly I did not enjoy my experience and left shortly after being in the room only to have the front desk lady charge me $ 25 for a bad time. Not cool.

Walk in with a headache, leave without one. Acupuncture works like… magic? I don’t know how else to describe it. Within 3 treatments Erica resolved a tennis/golfer’s elbow condition that had plagued me for about two years. I had seen specialist after specialist & done this, that and the other. She fixed it several months ago and it has not bothered me since. Erica helps tremendously with my chronic allergies, earaches, neck and back pain. Oh, and stress. She is a gem! In fact, everyone at this clinic is very well trained and all are committed to helping people. I hand out their business cards to anyone I meet who is suffering. Highly recommend!

I came to do my first acupuncture practice here. Overall i had a good experience. Its difficult to say whether or not it was effective since i have chronic back issues and was told it was going to take a few treatments to see any results. i was in my own room since it was on my back– so no shirt=privacy, but the walls are pretty thin. You can hear everything anyone says for the most part. Either way i would go again and their pricing was amazing (especially since I’m crawling with debt).

There are limited acupuncture options in Austin, and most are pricey. South Austin Acupuncture is much cheaper than those that I’ve tried, and offers a unique open space setting; basically a big casual living room with sheet draped lazy boy chairs and zen music, and they allow you to dictate how much time you spend. The staff is really nice and they seem to care, and the environment is relaxing. The price is reasonable, partly because of the layout (the shared space), with about 10 chairs in the room I’ve been in, sometimes full, sometimes half empty. The only draw back of the shared space is that while most clients are as quiet as clams, in the times I’ve been, there is always some dude (different each time) snoring loudly for the duration… I suppose my recommendation would be to wake the snoring types since it can affect the other clients’ therapy, but otherwise, I will try head phones or ear plugs the next time I go. Overall, I really like and recommend the place

Wally Dogget at South Austin Community Acupuncture is the Best Acupuncturist in town. He has really helped me with my health problems in just the few times I have been treated there. I suggest this clinic to everyone I know. I was frustrated trying to find affordable acupuncture in town because I do not make that much money and I called the schools and to see someone with experience they were charging 90 $/​hr. I called South Austin Community Acupuncture and they scheduled me right away and they work on a sliding scale based on your pay and I end up paying a quarter of what they charge elsewhere. Wally is wonderful, he has so much experience you don’t even feel him put the pins in and before you know it you have relaxed and fallen asleep and feel so much better! I love this place!

I love this community acupuncture center. I’ve tried all 3 acupuncturists, all of which have been very knowledgeable, professional and helpful. They sell a variety of herbal supplements in conjunction with the therapy, but are not pushy with buying the products. There is no pressure to purchase packages like there is with many other places (which violates the theory of traditional acupuncture anyway). You pay according to a sliding scale based on your salary and/​or comfort level. Although it is a community room, the environment is extremely relaxing. The chairs are large and comfortable, and everyone is very mindful of maintaining the peace and quiet. You can stay as long as you’d like, and there is never a rush to open up your chair. I’ve tried many other acupuncture studios before, private and community. This is my favorite one so far and recommend it to anyone wanting to give acupuncture a try!

SACA is a great find. Wally, Erica, and Kelly are all very nice and caring, and the fees are very affordable. They have a no-​frills community acupuncture room with around 9 recliners, and the office environment is clean. I have also enjoyed being able to schedule my appointments online.

I don’t know if I go often enough to be getting the full benefits from the acupuncture, but the CUPPING! I had chronic pain in my shoulder and it was gone after my FIRST session and has never returned in full-​force. Also, for a community-​type place, it is very professional and nice in the waiting room. The only complaint I have is that it’s soooooooooooooooooooooo cold in the community room and I couldn’t do much with a blanket with needles all in my arms! Maybe it will better in the winter.

This is the first Acupuncture clinic I’ve been to in Austin — and I’m impressed. I have a ruptured L5 disc with severe sciatica and needed treatment. My physical therapist recommended South Austin Community Acupuncture. I completed my second appointment today and it was a very comfortable, efficient, clean and professional environment. Wally remembered exactly my situation and generally cares about my recovery — even added cupping to my lower back without extra charge. I’m really feeling better. Both appointments I called and they got me in the same day. Highly recommended!

This place is great. Mike and Wally always listen and attend to my needs. They make me feel comfortable every time and take my pains away. I even took my teenager who never had acupuncture. He watched my treatment and decided he wanted to do it too. Wally helped him get off Asthma medication with needles! Don’t forget to get the cupping. It is very helpful too. I had an injury in my arm and Mike released the pain in one treatment with the cupping added. I’m definitely a believer in acupuncture now,

He is the master, amazing. As good as it gets. I initially visited SACA while extremely pregnant with my second child. Threatened with induction in 4 days, I sought out Wally’s expertise-​and WOW! My contractions began before I even left my second session and my son was born 12 hours later. I don’t know what magic he worked, but my labor was also MUCH easier than with my first.
I now visit Wally weekly for pain and anxiety treatment. I’ve never felt rushed, always comfortable, and that our conversations were private and confidential. Their sliding scale payment makes this an affordable and wonderful alternative (and effective!) option if you’re seeking out acupuncture.
I love SACA in general, Wally in particular, and acupuncture as a whole. Visit, relax, and you won’t be sorry!

I just got home from having the most tranquil, relaxing, and heart warming experience. I am new in town and found this place online. I’ve had acupuncture before, but never in a community room. I walked in and my therapist Erica said, «I know you!». Lo and behold we had gone to high school one year together. Serendipity. I felt like I was supposed to be there. Erica is kind, knowledgeable, and helped me get to the bottom of my symptoms.
After an hour of relaxing, she came to wake me. Erica recommended some awesome herbs for me that I purchased as well. This place is amazing. They have a sliding scale so even though I am in between jobs, I can afford to come here once a week for treatments. Thank you Erica and SACA!

I highly recommend SACA. If you are dealing with physical, emotional, or mental ailments that are not meeting conventional treatments– this place is definitely worth a try. I went in on a whim from a recommendation from a friend, and I have been consistently going as I need treatments.
Mike has treated me 4 or 5 times. Every time has been exactly what I needed. I have had a good amount of acupuncture in Austin, and I have learned it takes a specific acupuncturist to really ignite the juicy «zombie like» state that acupuncture can bring… (note: a peaceful «zombie”– minus the hunger for brains).
I think this place is really special because it allows broke college kids like myself have access to something really useful and healing. I am grateful for acupuncture because it is one of the most instantly affective natural treatments for depression and anxiety that I have ever found (and I have tried it all).
The setup may seem awkward in your minds eye: a room of people in lounge chairs being stuck with needles… but I assure you the setting is tranquil, non invasive, and legit. It draws a chill crowd, and as soon as your needles are in, you wont think twice about anyone else in the room. They also allow you to camp out as long as you like– really soak in your treatment. It. Is. Awesome.

I don’t know how Wally does it, but he’s a miracle worker. For the second time in six months, a back muscle that affects my breathing started seizing up and preventing me from getting enough air. I hobbled in, begging for relief, and he provided it like magic. Just 20 minutes of cupping and an acupuncture-​nap later and it’s like nothing ever happened. I could breathe and I could stand up straight, all for the price of a couple bucks and a couple of unsightly bruises on my back for a week or so.
He’s also been there for me through mood swings, carb overload, and some lady-​related troubles and has handled it all with care and ease.

How could I say no? It was free, and BAGELS WERE PROVIDED.
Not just bagels, but also access to a toaster oven … and THREE KINDS OF CREAM CHEESE.
Oh – and FRUIT. Like kiwi and strawberries. And orange juice.
Wait. On second thought, that’s probably not always the deal at South Austin Community Acupuncture. Today they were having their «Grand Opening party» to welcome new customers to the new location on Ben White near Congress. But the free breakfast was a nice touch. Very welcoming.
These folks are friendly, y’all. I’d never been poked before, but my gal has been going for a couple of months and since it was FREE today, well, as I said, how could I say no? They didn’t seem overly concerned with my precise reasons for being there; I get the impression that it’s kind of a one-​size-​fits-​most as far as the first visit goes.
Anyway, the whole experience was soothing and well worth the money spent. I’d certainly go back., even thought next time I’ll actually have to spend some money. That’s okay – their rates are reasonable and on a sliding scale based on income.
I can’t wait to see if acupuncture helps me with my stress and anxiety issues. It seems to have gone a long way towards curbing my girlfriend’s uncontrollable homicidal episodes. She’s so much easier to sleep next to now! (Love you Alicia).
