Because of his love of pen and ink, Arnoldo Carrillo began expressing his art form through black and gray. He can create a variety of art, but specializes in dimensional black and gray which flow with the body, creating movement that enhances the art. Arnoldo’s inspiration for his original art does not come from a template, rather from a collaboration between artist and client. From years of working with plastic surgeons, Arnoldo has developed his skills in skin pigmentation, enabling him to expertly work on cover ups, scar covering, Vitiligo camouflage, and permanent makeup.

History

Established in 1992.

Long before tattoos became trendy, Arnoldo Carrillo began expressing his art form, in the early ‘80s. At the height of the aids scare, he stopped tattooing. In the early ’90’s a plastic surgeon approached him to work with breast cancer survivors, which prompted him to return to his art. He opened his own custom tattoo studio; Shades of Gray Dermagraphics, in 1992. He has been working with his clients for over twenty years. Today, he still uses his experience and love for art, to help breast cancer patients, and his clients, express their individuality through unique body art.

Business Owner

Arnoldo Carrillo grew up in Tucson, Arizona, where he first discovered his love for art. He moved to Austin, in the late ‘80s, establishing his current studio, where some of his artwork is displayed. He is continually studying his craft, attending seminars and conventions, to help improve his work. He has a love for what he does and enjoys the relationships he has developed with his established clientele. Most of his new work is through referrals. His gentle, positive nature creates the collaborative environment that produces custom pieces of timeless art.
