Serrano’s is the goto place if you wanted Tex-Mex in Austin, or at least it used to be. The food was always a little bit above okay but usually done pretty well until recently. Things are changing for this little establishment. They recently renovated most of their locations. They changed the menu a bit and raised the prices. This used to be a perfect place for a cheap and delicious meal but now you can’t get out of there for under 12 – 15 dollars. My wife and I ate here last weekend. We had two chicken fajita taco salads, add sour cream, waters and a tip: 34 dollars. Yikes.

Serranos anywhere besides downtown does not provide the same feel. A Tex-Mex joint in any other location falls into the«strip mall» so-so category. Unfortunately, tge Serrano’s menu does not offer much variety to boost it from its pretty bland atmosphere and tenure. The fajitas, which are typically the go-to dish in such an establishment, could use some work. At least on the poultry end. The chicken comes off as lacking in flavor and dry, to say the least. The beef fajitas make up for this fault, what with nice char and beefy nuances. Serranos has nothing to boast in regards to a niche market, as they are not cranking out awesome queso, unique enchiladas, or great salsa – as so many other joints in town do so well.
