Ryan does blonde like no other! He works his magic and my bright blonde hair looks natural and grows out well! He talked me into growing out my bangs and I haven’t looked back since.

Ryan just has the touch. Skills-​wise, I’ve never had a stylist who had such a seemingly effortless way with the tools – his instincts are perfect and within minutes he’s already got the vision in process. And personality-​wise, I’ve never had a boring conversation with the guy – he’s smart and funny and KNOWS about stuff. In short, I’m so glad to be back in his chair in Austin.

I met Ryan last year when he gave me one of the most amazing blowouts of my entire life. I finally tracked him down at Grapevine Salons where he has his own studio. It was such a lovely experience. Ryan is super sweet and it’s just like hanging out with one of your friends, who happens to give the best scalp massage in the entire world. He really cares about what he’s doing and it shows. He listened to what I wanted and help guide to a style that would look great on me. He really knows how to work with wavy/​curly hair. I’m in love! My hair looks great and I feel fabulous!

Ryan is great, friendly and knowledgable. I get a great hair cut and also get my hair care products here as well. I never have a problem scheduling and my hair always looks great. Awesome person and service very glad I found him here on Unilocal

What can I say? Ryan does a fabulous hair color and cut and really cares about what I care about. Visiting him is an «experience,» from the beautiful art on the walls, books, and serene lighting, to the groovy music selection and shampoo massage. He listens, and that is key. He takes pride in his work and he makes me feel like a million bucks. I’d definitely recommend him to guys and gals. He did a great cut on my adorable guy, too.

I’ve been going to Ryan for several years, and I almost hesitate to add to the heaps of praise he’s been getting because he’s so (deservedly!) popular. I want to keep him to myself so I can call for last minute appointments. But that’s really doing him a disservice. The man is a hair wizard, and the world needs to know about him.
For those of us blessed with the gene that grants us just a leeeeeetle too much gravitas at an early age (a.k.a. premature greyulation), Ryan knows exactly how to handle it. I always walk out of there feeling younger and fabulous. And my hair itself feels healthy and smooth, regardless of the fact that it hasn’t seen its natural color for *mumblety* years. I’m not even really sure what that natural color is anymore. Or was. Before the grey. Stupid grey.
If you’ve had color work done, you know that you’re sitting in the chair for a few hours. Sometimes that can mean painful conversations and awkward silences. I’ve never felt that way with Ryan. He’s so easy to talk to, but if you feel like being quiet, he’s good with that too. Just listen to his great Pandora station and let your mind wander. While you process, he leaves you alone in the room in a comfy chair and dims the lights. Same if you have a toner.
His cuts are fantastic as well. They’re built to last, so that as they grow out, they look great. No awkward stages here. And he knows what will work with both your hair type and your face.
tl;dr: Call and book an appointment right now. He’s worth every penny.

My teenage daughter was the first in our family to go to Ryan. I was impressed with his skills, as not many hair stylists are willing to do teenagers, or do a poor job. I asked what he thought about my hair, since I was not to happy with my current salon. He was honest (which I needed and appreciated) and had a vision of what would look good. I immediately booked an appointment and cancelled with my prior salon and have continued to see Ryan ever since. I love my hair, color, cut, and Ryan. We make changes with color and highlights almost every time I go in, which is refreshing. I feel beautiful when I leave.
I love the privacy of his salon and the tranquility he creates with lights and music. Overall it is always a very relaxing and pleasurable experience. I am so happy I made the change.

I’ve been a big fan of Ryan and his talents for several years now. The difference between Ryan’s stylings and most any other men’s stylist/​barber is that I never have to worry about how my hair will grow out. It’s great 2, 3, 4 weeks or longer. He always has a smile and a cold beverage ready for me and we settle into chatting like old friends while he works his magic. The drive across town is unfortunate for me, but still well worth it.

Ryan is located in Grapevine Salons, which houses many various salons/​masseuses/​manicurists/​etc. Very clean and well furnished. Ryan’s little space is comfy and impeccably clean.

I’ve been going to Ryan for over a year now, and he is exceptionally skilled at making one look good. He understands exactly how your hair will grow out and plans accordingly. His private studio is extremely relaxing, and he’ll even offer you a drink! If you’ve had a bad hair cut experience, Ryan will renew your faith in hair stylists. Excellent work with both men and women hair styling.

In my seven years as Ryan’s client, I have been only very happy with each and every cut I have received. While always a consummate professional, he is also full of humor and possesses a down to earth charm which has made every appointment a pleasure. I went in with expectations from the reviews and have the worst haircut in my life. It’s so short that it’s going to take a month to grow out. If it had been an inch long I could have managed but it’s shorter than that. I trusted his judgement maybe he is better with woman’s hair styles. He’s a very nice guy but just not for me.

Ryan is the best. I never leave reviews, but after my last (amazing) hair cut with Ryan, I was motivated to seek him out on Unilocal.Turns out, I’m not his only extremely happy customer.
Before Ryan, I went to the cheapest place in my area (usually a big chain) and got a regular, boring cut for about $ 15. I finally decided I wanted a change, and found Ryan at his previous salon. It was worth every penny. I always left with a beautiful hair cut, feeling so confident and happy. When Ryan left to start his own studio, I followed him to his new location without a second thought. So glad I did, because It’s even better than the last place. Small, cozy and so relaxing. Ryan plays just the right music, offers tasty beer and then works his magic. The pre-​cut wash is worth a visit all on its own.
During my last appointment, I told Ryan I wanted to go short (for the first time — ever). I was sick of my long hair, and wanted something completely different. I told Ryan I wanted a BIG change, and to do whatever he felt would look best. I left with an amazing new look — I can’t get enough of my short cut. I doubt I could have trusted anyone else to give me such a radically different cut.

I’ve been seeing Ryan for years and love him! Always get a great cut, color, and style without all the drama most other stylists and salons carry. His new location his fantastic! Also love that he works weekends.

Ryan has been my stylist for over 7 years. He has excellent skills, a wonderful personality, and he even works on Sundays (what?!). His scalp massage relaxes me beyond belief and a glass of wine or beer makes me not want to get up out of the chair. Ever. The experience is as good as it gets.

I’ve been seeing Ryan for several years and wherever he goes, I follow! We have done it all to my hair… dark, light, short, layers, bangs, etc… I am always happy after seeing him and getting a great cut/​color! Ryan is friendly, thoughtful, and a super talented stylist!

Ryan is a miracle worker.
That may be an understatement.
My daughter-​in-​law has glorious, thick, blond-​on-​blond hair which has dulled a bit as we’ve grown older; meanwhile, my hair has gone from chestnut to dull brown & gray. About a year ago, though, her hair became as beautiful as it was in her 20’s, due to Ryan’s cut and color magic.
On Saturday, 11 Oct, I finally decided I wasn’t happy about looking my age, and I made an appointment with Ryan. He made room for me the following day — and I walked out of his salon looking like a different woman. Two week’s later, I’m still delighted with the color and the cut: the color looks natural, my hair is in great shape, and the cut is easy to manage & makes my hair move beautifully.
I’ve received a number of compliments, but even better is that I feel good about the change I made.
While I went for a temporary change (I think it’s called a demi-​color) because I wasn’t sure whether I wanted to make a commitment, my DiL’s results make it clear that Ryan is a master with permanent color, too.
Ryan could charge a whole lot more than he does (his prices are better than reasonable), but he could not be more fun or more humble about his gifts.

NOTE: Ryan has a studio in the south Grapevine Salons, which is a building that houses independent hair stylists, manicurists, etc. He’s in studio #251. He works Thursdays-​Sundays, 10a-​7p. Yes, that means he works on weekends. He’s a women’s and men’s hair stylist. Among other strengths, he’s great with curly/​wavy hair and a fantastic colorist.
Ryan has renewed my faith in professional hair stylists. In March 2013, nine months after a butchered cut at a local salon (IT WAS BIRDS), I found Ryan at the salon he used to work at. I was growing my hair out and I was terrified. With some reassuring words and a few swift snips of the scissors, Ryan transformed my shapeless mop into an actual Style. He also told me how to blow dry my hair effectively, so it would take less time and fall right. He was totally on point.
Fast forward six point five months to October 2013. Ryan just opened own studio at Grapevine Salons. I’m anxiously waiting for my appointment — my first since March. Ryan is finishing up with the client ahead of me. She comes out of the studio GLOWING. Seriously, the girl, whoever she is, is most likely living the best life right now. Ryan did her color and it was this AMAZING RED and her cut was perfect. It moved majestically. I heard music, guys. It was like a shampoo commercial unfolding in front of me. He transformed her from a blonde to an awesome red. She floated out of the room with a sparkling smile and my mouth dropped open.
My turn. My hair was shapeless, longish, sad. I can’t emphasize how drab it was. Ryan assured me it was healthy and beautiful. And then, again, before I even knew what had happened, he was done… and this, this AMAZING head of hair was upon my head. I WAS IN A SHAMPOO COMMERCIAL, TOO. I was absolutely speechless. My hair had style, flow, shape. He hadn’t even put any product in it. It was unbelievable.
Do you know what happened next? I went to BookPeople to wait for my husband, because I’m old and nerdy, and some cute guy came up and started a conversation with me. DO YOU NEED ANY MORE PROOF THAN THAT? Ryan Carrel is the best hair stylist in Austin.
