Reel Popcorn

I often drive to south austin just to make a stop at Reel Popcorn. Their flavors are incredible!
We chose to do flavored popcorn for party favors at our wedding and the staff was incredibly helpful in picking out a flavor and the right amount we needed. We had no problem ordering it and picking it up and the pricing was very reasonable. Everyone loved the popcorn and i recommended Reel Popcorn to all of them.

Reel Popcorn never disappoints! The staff there will give you a quick intro if you’ve never been and even gives you really swell suggestions for mixing flavors. They also sell Tins that give you ½ off on refills. The breakdown is simple: it’s really great popcorn with really interesting flavors. The Flavor of thee Month for January is Tomato Basil, it is outstanding, but I always recommend the Pizza mixed with Garlic Parmesan or Cocunut Curry by itself. They also give you samples here if you have any questions about the flavor.

I love Reel Popcorn!!! The prices are very reasonable. I always get excellent customer service when I go in there. I just went yesterday and was waited on by a young man who was very polite and nice. I always get quality popcorn when I go here. I also love that it is a local Austin store. My favorites are cheese punk (that’s my husband’s fav too), Austin Mix, Texas Trio and a mix of cherry and vanilla. We always go here for our gourmet popcorn!!!

My husband and I went in today for the first time. The lady that helped us, who is most likely the owner, was so friendly and helpful. She let us sample the flavors we asked about. We bought the kill dill, Parmesan garlic and the Austin mix. They were all delicious! We will definitely be back and often.

As amazing as always… Awesome owner and popcorn. Kill Dill is to die for! I wish they had a Lake Travis location.

Cute concept, the little field trip going of there with the kids looked like fun… The popcorn was very disapointing. I got some gourmet popcorn from a vendor at Costco this spring and have been wanting more for weeks.
This did not live up. The Lemon Bar was the best we got, my 2 year old went nuts for the colored combo snack bag. The white chocolate pretzel was soggy… Brand new the chocolate on it seemed to make the popcorn wilt. Terrible.
Dill is supposed to be a best seller, my sample must have been WAY over seasoned I had to spit it out. The Carmel pecan was fine, it was sweet but didn’t really taste like Carmel, just candied.
I really wanted to like it, but aside from the cute little school trips nothing special.

I love this place! The owner is fantastic and always super helpful! I swear I come in almost every week to replenish my popcorn supply at my office. My favorites are, Kill Dill, Garlic Parmesan, and Caramel… YUMMM!!!

Deliciousness in a bag! I’ve been going since they first opened. I love the owner and her daughter. They are super nice every time I go in. They will even ship to me if I won’t be in Austin to pick up!!! That in itself is saying a lot since I literally live 5 miles from another popcorn shop in Dallas. I’d rather go to Austin or pay for shipping; they are that good.

Like others have mentioned, I did receive a message from the owner of Reel Popcorn. Her email to me was extremely rude. Instead of using this as an opportunity to gain feedback and perhaps win a customer back, she was condescending and unprofessional.

I am not usually a writer of reviews. But, since my family and I had such a wonderful experience, I decided to drop a few kind words.
I called with just a few weeks notice of my daughters’ Quinceañera. The ladies were very helpful. I provided them with the dress/​theme colors and they were able to customize a colorful package and table setting for her. They included the jars, scoops, bags, ties and setup for the «Popcorn bar» and of course a ton of the combo strawberry/​vanilla popcorn.
Given all of the stresses and other expenses that this party already had, Sharon and Jennifer made this not only beautiful, but affordable.
I have been to the shop many times in the past. I have an Autistic son who enjoys the movie themes set up throughout the shop and all of the happiness that is shared each time we visits. We have been on a few occasions that they were hosting games and fun stuff for the little ones as well.

We stopped by today for a snack after visiting the Knittjng Nest next door. It smelled sooooo good when we walked in. The man who greeted and helped us was very friendly. I ordered a small bag of a cheese mixture ($ 3.50), and my husband ordered a combination of caramel and cheddar bacon (I know, gross) (also $ 3.50, I believe). While waiting for our order to be filled a woman came up to the counter and offered us a free bag of cherry/​black cherry popcorn. Which worked out well as to balance out our savory popcorn with sweet =) She also offered us a sample of the special… something with salted caramel and chocolate.
My husband and I were both happy with all of the popcorn we purchased. My cheesy popcorn was really good, but I’m fairly certain that some cheddar bacon ended up in my bag. Was not a fan of that flavor. Maybe I am mistaken and it was supposed to be in there. My husband really liked both of his flavors, and the cherry popcorn was really good, too.
We’ll probably go back at some point. The popcorn was really fresh and good tasting, the employees (owners?) were friendly, and the prices were fair.

I have been a fan since Reel Popcorn was in southpark meadows. The popcorn is always great! I love the flavors of popcorn. It makes perfect gifts and you can put together your own little sample of mini bags. My favorites are Dill, Jalapeño cheddar which tastes like you’re eating nachos at a football game. I also like the cookies and cream, and the cornfetti!
My only complaint is from when I visited the new location a few weeks ago. The staff was friendly and great as always but the store itself looked like it needed to be organized. There were lots of boxes and supplies in the front of the store and it wasn’t exactly organized. I just chalked it up to being busy for the holidays.

They provided favors for guest to take home after our building dedication party. They were great small bags of delicious caramel popcorn. They labeled them all with our logo (and theirs on the back) and delivered them the day of the event. Fantastic service and very nice. I will use them again!

I’m so glad that this place re-​opened in a better spot fir easier access. The popcorn is great as well as the service. Can’t pick from the 30+ flavors? No worries. You can sample until you find your perfect flavor. You can also mix flavors. My fav flavors are loaded baked potato, garlic Parmesan, caramel pecan, and cookies and cream. Stop by and see for yourself.

have not been in the shop yet, but one of the owners dropped by some samples at our sub shop the other day and I was blown away. I am not even a big popcorn fan but I couldn’t believe the range of flavors you could put on popcorn.
my wife and kids love popcorn so ill be sure to stop by and see what else in terms of flavors they offer.

Popcorn is one of my favorite quasi-​foodstuffs. I’m not a fan of the popcorn at most theaters (except the Alamo). I found Reel Popcorn at the shelves of the Live Oak Market. Thought I would check out the place where they have ALL of the flavors on far S. Congress.
I was able to sample a bunch of different flavors — green apple, blueberry as well as the retro-​trad white cheddar, dill, and buttery. Have to say that dill is my favorite now. So, for my 300^th review I give Reel Popcorn 4 stars for overall deliciousness and in bringing cool stuff to eat to Austin.

Some of you might recall the mighty Popcorn War of 2008. I shan’t revisit it. It was painful for all involved. I will say this was the one negative review that I felt badly about. (the others stand, especially, YOU, Jiffy Lube!!)
I wanted to return, but was afraid I’d be recognized and viciously pelted with popcorn. That could smart.
I finally manned up today and re-​entered the octagon.
OMG, I’m so glad I did!!!
A) The awesome lady behind the counter, as I already tipped you of to, was AWESOME.
B) The popcorn YUMMY. I got the Caramel Pecan, Smores, and the Chocolate Banana Popcorn. I got the snack pack (more like snack for 5 days pack) of the first two and then got these adorable baby packs of the latter for a few girls in the office.
The popcorn is tasty, the customer service was awesome, and the ability to upgrade a negative review to a 4 star review feels good.

After a horrifying meal at Zorba’s nearby, I decided I could recover with some Dill Pickle popcorn. We walked in and no one was there. NO ONE. We looked at the back and there was a guy on the phone with his back to us. We stood there for a minute or two… nothing.
So we left.
Man, the more times I venture over to Southpark Meadows, the more I just want to call it Failpark Meadows.

I have been very busy, like everyone, and a very wise man told me he did not understand my review.
I will try to better communicate with this update. I got this message from Sharon the owner:
Hi Lindsay,
This is Sharon, the owner of Reel Popcorn. I just have a few questions.
If popcorn isn’t your thing then why did you come to the store 3 times? And if you thought it was too expensive in 2009, then why did you come back? 17 other people dont agree with you, and that’s ok, they like popcorn. I waited on you and I know when you left the store, you did not give that impression. You should have told me, I like constructive criticism.
I don’t know why your other review got flagged, just like I dont know why I have 11, 4 and 5 star reviews in the filters.
And again, Lindsay, constructive criticism is good for us all. (that’s the end of her message which I thought was uncalled for)
And for all of you that like to flag, flag this right away. I don’t care if this is removed or not, I would rather have nothing to do with a business like this anyway (because of the owner’s email). So do whatever you feel.
I gave this place a few tries in hopes of finding out what the hype was about, because it is only popcorn and I usually really like popcorn… so do many people that I know.
I am not wild about their popcorn. The idea is great. The popcorn is too expensive. They will let you sample the varieties of savory and sweet flavors and have a rainbow assortment too. That is pretty creative.
The reason my update may have been confusing was because Sharon, the owner, took it upon herself to send me a rather rude, assumptive, passive aggressive email asking me why I would even go back again if I did not like it the first time and that just does not sit well with me… plus, the other times I went, I was taking people that had not yet gone. I was not going there for my benefit.
I should be allowed to have my own opinions. Sharon even said she waited on me when I went there, and that is false. I have never seen her one of the few times I had gone there (and I won’t be going back). Each time, a young girl helped the groups that I went with when we went there.
Sorry for any confusion. The popcorn itself was stale when I got it and the caramel type did leave that burned taste in our mouths. Not trying to pop-​off but the quality and flavor was just not that good for the price!
It was also funny each time we went the girl working there would say oh this one flavor (blah blah) is a great kind but we are out of it… Why even mention it if you are out of it? Oh well… whatever, I guess.
I have never once had an owner send me one email like that from Unilocal… it is pretty annoying.

Walking into this store is like walking into a magical wonderland of popcorn. My previous experience with popcorn has been limited — bags of white cheddar popcorn at camp and good old fashioned buttery popcorn at the movies (two squirts of butter please!) and a fat diet coke to offset the calories. It doesn’t do that you say? Whatever. You know nothing.
So I stopped into Reel Popcorn last week and oggled the board full of crazy flavors. Cornfetti… Cinnamon… ChWeddar. Wasabi Ranch was I ended up eating. And inhaling. And licking the bag on my way home. It had enough wasabi to feel it in my nose. Like when you put too much on a piece of sushi and it cleans out your sinuses in one hefty shot.
If you’re a popcorn geek, seems like these guys have it going on. And conveniently located across from a movie theater, this is a low calorie gluten free alternative to the big tub o popcorn that will settle in comfortably around your saddlebags.
