Established in 1973.

Ray Williamson Sr started out in Austin with just a pick up and a chain saw in 1973. Ray Williamson Jr became a partner/​tree climber in 1999 and we have

all the equipment necessary to do any job that you have.

We also use new chain saws to get the job done. We will not get to a stopping point just to work on our own equipment. We spend our time working for you.

Ray Williamson is a lifelong resident of Austin Texas. He began his tree service in 1973, as a side line business, while holding down a full time job. By 1980 business had grown enough that Ray was able to pursue the tree care business full time.

Ray, Jr. began working with his Dad when he was 8 years old. In 1999 Ray, Jr. became a full partner in the tree service company.

Both Ray, Sr. and Ray, Jr. know and understand the trees that grow in the central Texas area better than most people in the business.

Many of our customers have been with us for more than 20 years. In fact most of our new customers come from personal referrals from other satisfied customers.

Ray removed a dead tree from my front yard and took out a couple of dead branches from other trees on my property.

I am extremely impressed with Ray and his knowledge. He is certified, economical, owns great equipment, cleans up well afterwards, and is punctual. Overall, I couldn’t be happier that I selected him and his crew to remove a tree and trim others. All of our trees needed attention – lot of old growth, damaged limbs etc. and many that needed the canopy raised. Ray was very knowledgeable about the different types of trees in our yard and tailored the work to each type of tree. Prompt, courteous, reasonably priced, and thorough cleanup of the yard afterwards. The had all of the right equipment to do the job, and Ray is right there rolling up his sleeves with the crew… Used them based on a neighbor’s recommendation and we were not disappointed.

This past summer, a large oak in our front yard succumbed to the drought and died. A large, dead tree hanging directly over your home is not something you want sticking around, so I started calling all the top-​rated Unilocal companies for a quote.
Ray called me back within 15 minutes or so after I contacted him and was available to head over immediately to give a quote (one of the other companies didn’t even call back until hours later). Luckily, my husband was staying home that day so Ray met up with him at our home and within a half hour, we had an agreeable quote and set up service for the next day.
Ray showed up at our home first thing the next morning (always a plus when service people show up on time) and preceded to cut down the dead tree. As an added bonus, he cleaned up all our other trees and after assessing our pine in the back, advised us to cut it down as well due to instability/​age.
My husband said the team was efficient and thorough and we managed to clean up all our trees at a fair price! We were very happy with his service and will definitely use him again when the time comes.

Ray Williamson Tree Service came to to take down a tree that had died on a bluff and was partially hanging over a balcony being used by guests. We had experienced some recent high winds and some of the dead branches had blown off and I was becoming very concerned that the tree would damage more property or hurt someone. Ray was available in the the area a day when I had guests in the room with the balcony but I asked him to come anyway since I wanted to take advantage of having him in the area. I live outside of Burnet. The removal was a bit delicate but they used ropes and plenty of guys to make sure that nothing fell where it wasn’t supposed to and that my guests were disturb as little as possible. They did a quick and professional job. They left me the wood pieces cut up since I can use them in the fire pit and the blew off and picked up the leftover debris. I was very pleased with the job. Everyone was respectful and professional and they had all the proper equipment needed including a chipper.

Two nights ago, during the unbelievable wind storm, my neighbors 25 foot tree down fell from the base and landed on my roof, precariously held in place by another tree which prevented it from crashing through a window.
Quite a distressing sight. It was not going to be easy to remove this tree without damaging my house further.
We called Ray the very next morning and he promised he would come to my house that day. Clearly, it was a very busy day for Ray — the wind storm was the worst in Austin since the 60’s, however, Ray showed up that afternoon. Ray and his team worked well into the evening to finish the job.
This was a dangerous extraction — for Ray’s team and my house, however it was executed with precision and professionalism. They had already had a long day before they arrived — nonetheless, they were friendly and eager to help us with our serious problem. It was a job very well done.

I called Ray Sr. on Monday at about 5:30pm about a hackberry tree in my backyard that was starting to split. I had read the good reviews on here and had already gotten 3 other quotes before Ray. Ray and his wife were at my house by 6:30pm to give me an estimate. They said their son and crew could be at my house the next morning to not only remove the split tree, but to also trim another hackberry in my backyard that was on its way to splitting. They told me they would do a clean job and would be careful not to damage my patio that was below the trees or any of my neighbors extensive landscaping. Ray promised all of this with a quote that was $ 500 less than what a previous company had told me and this company was uninsured. I gave Ray the job and sure enough he was true to his word. They showed up the next morning and spent a good chunk of the day removing and trimming the trees. When the job was done, there was not a single limb on the ground in my backyard because they had all been chipped and removed. My neighbor, whose house was in danger, came over just to tell me how great of a job Ray Sr. and Ray Jr. did. They made sure to get a business card so they would have it for any future jobs. I will be sure to keep their number on hand for any future jobs I have and will absolutely refer this company to friends and family.

After buying a older house, I found that there was a tree leaning over the garage and several dead trees in the backyard (due to last years drought). Ray was punctual, came in with a good estimate, trimmed all the trees and went the extra mile in cleaning up after themselves. I’ve had trees trimmed before and appreciate the care with which they approach their job.

Ray Jr. cares about his business and his reputation. He removed a VERY large oak tree for me and returned to my home to do even more work on it just to make sure I was satisfied. After going through a few tree services (some said they would show up but didn’t; some did a little work but never returned), I finally found someone who was as good as his word and takes pride in his work. I called Ray yesterday after finding him and reading reviews on Unilocal.I was very happy with Ray’s customer service and more importantly the quality of his work.
I had a large old stump (elm tree perhaps) right in front of my house. It was slightly above ground level, but I wanted to plant a vegetable garden and needed the stump ground at least 18 inches below the surface.
One company I called (Austin Tree Surgeons) charged per inch diameter and would only go down 6-​inches (12-​inches would cost extra). I said thanks but no thanks.
I couldn’t tell where the tree ended and the roots began. I described the situation to Ray, he quoted me a price (very fair), I liked it, and he said he’d get to my house at 5pm. Ray arrived on time (actually a few minutes early) and got to work. He did a great job grinding what turned out to be quite a large tree with all sorts of root structure. That stump grinder is an amazing piece of machinery, and I heard you can rent one, but after seeing him work the levers and saw, there’s no way I’d try to operate that thing.
He ground the tree right up to my walkway and left behind a nice bed of mulch. Now I have a nice deep hole for my garden. Thanks Ray!

We hired the company a couple of years ago to remove a couple of trees and trim some others in our yard. They did a good job with the tree removal (or at least I remember there was no major issues), but they did a terrible job trimming our trees. The trees were left looking unruly and/​or ugly. I was very disappointed.

I must say, I have worked doing this type of tree work in the past, but Ray Williamson sure made a big job look easy. Ray has the equipment, crew, and expertise that helped me, my yard, and protected my property from near future damage of trees; and he has worked a beautifull plan for planting new, young trees that will keep my property looking great through the years.

UPDATE:
I see that Ray has responded to my negative review. I would like to clear up a few points:
(1) When I called Ray to tell him the tree was growing back his reaction was «it’s not my problem.» He didn’t offer to come take a look until AFTER I had posted this review.
(2) While doing the work they never advised me to «put stump and root killer» on the stump. I only got that advice six month later while reading Ray’s comments below.
(3) My issue with these guys is not that the tree grew back, it’s with their crappy attitude.
(4) I also didn’t appreciate their repeatedly calling me franticly AFTER I had posted my negative review. Their chance to resolve the issue happened when I first called them.
(5) Many of my reviews are 1 star, the others are 4 and 5 stars. I only bother to give a review when my experience is significantly positive or negative.

My original review:
I spent $ 600 on Ray Williamson Tree Service in April of 2010.
They worked on several trees, including one that I asked them to remove entirely. Everything was great by the end of the day when I wrote them the check.
Three months later –after plenty of rain and sunshine– the tree they removed is now growing back with a vengeance. So I called Ray Williamson Tree Service and I spoke with Ray Jr.
Ray basically told me «it’s not my problem.» Nice, very nice.
Ray Williamson Tree Service will charge you a pile of money and then deliver one star service so do yourself a favor and call someone else.

With the vast amount of legit and non legit tree service places in and Austin, I took a good friends recommendation and called Ray Williamson. My friend had Ray remove a tree in the past and told me that not only they do the work he asked for a fair price, they even cleaned up a few other trees in the yard as well. I needed a rather large tree removed from my backyard due to limb breakage from a storm and also a rotting branch overhanging my house.
Mr. Williamson arrived promptly at the time he said he would and then after surveying the damage gave me a quote that was below what 3 other services had given me. He did this with a handshake, not a contract which reminded me of the way my father did business.
15 minutes later Mr. Williamson’s son and crew were cranking up the chainsaws and getting busy.
By the end of the day said tree was removed along with a huge rotting branch from a neighbor’s tree that was over my roof.
Everyone on the crew was professional, polite, and they left my yard clean, neat, and tidy. The even have their own wood chipper.
I highly recommend anyone that needs any helps with trees to use Ray Williamson. They have been in business since 1973 and are licensed and bonded. I will use them again if needed.
