I just purchased my 2011 Chevy Malibu LT2 from R&D Motors and I can tell you it was a great experience! Easy to work with, got a good price, and a great car in excellent condition with payments I can afford. Once I decided on the car, it was a quick and easy process. I wasn’t there for hours like most other dealerships. I recommend R&D highly!

I was referred to R&D motors by a friend. I checked out their website and had a few cars in mind to test drive. I showed up on a Saturday and was test driving my favorites in no time. And the Jetta I had in mind was perfect! They made signing on the dotted line a breeze. Buying a car can be nerve racking, I lucked out by having it all over in about an hour. So here I am over a year and a half later and my car is still good as new. I would go back to them for another car in a heartbeat. If you are looking for a laid back Austin vibe when buying a car. I had an amazing experience with this team! Not only are they hilarious, and personable… But they take care of there inventory, bring in the best for your budget, and are transparent about the life of your prospective buy, and they are reasonable.
R & D is legit, and I love my car for the price I paid.

This company is pathetic n are desperate for money. They will do anything to take everything you have have and still rip u off. I was late 15 days on my car payment and they towed my car… even though the contract says I have a 15 day grace period but they contradict themselves saying they can tow it because the account is in default? Yet I was late on my car payment bcuz I have been putting all kinds of $$$ into the piece of shit car… and not to mention, this is my 4^th car since june. I guess I should’ve known IF I WORK WITH SHIT I GET SHIT. All their cars are sold «AS IS» so think twice before buying because they fix up the car long enough for you to drive off the lot and as your driving up to your house your check engine light comes on, or its over heating, just to name some of their minor issues. They act like they are courteous and they want to help people but don’t let them deceive you. They’re a mom n pop dealership with beer in their mini fridge, and a jacked up mechanic. They only have one loaner car so if someone else has broken down you better hope you get hat loaner car first or you’ll have to pay out of pocket for a rental. I had the loaner car and guess what… that car even broke down.
When my first car broke down after a month they had it in the shop for almost another month while I still had to make a car payment. Then when I was put into my second car two months later n none of my previous payments went to the new car, I had to start fresh.
I know at times we can be desperate for a car and we take what we can get, that was my mistake n I regret it more than anything in my life. I pray that no one will have to go through what I went through with this company. They have cost me more money than my education because I bought «AS IS» and was constantly having to replace different parts.
This company is a rip off, they’re a joke and they can tow my car and shove it up where the sun don’t shine. I feel so relieved to have the car out of my possession I look at it as a blessing in disguise =] WWWOOOOOOO HOOOOOOO!

I don’t like giving bad reviews. There’s a part of me that feels very sad about it, even when it’s completely warranted, as it is in this case.
We thought we’d found a great deal at R&D. A 6-​year old Honda Civic with only a little over 6,000 miles on it? Awesome! The employee at the North Lamar lot was super friendly. We liked him. We LOVED the car.
Only…well, sometimes when something seems too good to be true, it really is. We decided to have an independent used car inspector from Auto PI come out and take a look at it, and he had some bad news: it had been in a substantial wreck that was not reported on the CarFax. There had been structural damage, the back bumper and a door had been replaced, and various other smaller parts were also replaced due to the accident.
It seems dumb in retrospect, but we were still interested in the car, so we came into the office with this information, ready to get a fair deal on a car that was clearly not worth the asking price. We explained to the woman working there what the inspector’s report had said, and she indicated that they had not known about this accident when they priced the car. Who knows if that’s true, but I’m sort of pathologically honest and tend to assume everyone else is, too. We made a cash offer that was a few thousand under the asking price, intending to go several thousand higher. She called her manager, chatted about some unrelated personal matter for a few minutes (hey lady, maybe you could do that later, when we’re not waiting to do business with you in your sweltering hovel of an office?), then hung up and said, «my manager said to never bother him with an offer like that ever again [guffaw].» I refrained from rolling my eyes at her obvious attempt to intimidate us. Oh R &D, I had so hoped that this sort of thing was beneath you!
It only went downhill from there. She started not-​so-​subtly implying that we’d fabricated the whole accident thing, so we got on their computer, printed out the report, and showed it to her. Her ruddy face got redder as she began fuming about being conned by the old lady who had sold them the car. So she’s essentially admitting the car has considerably diminished value, right? Apparently not. The lowest R&D would go was a few hundred under the asking price, which I suppose means they payed too much for the car themselves. Mistakes happen, obviously, and I’d be inclined to forgive them if only the employee hadn’t been so damnably unpleasant to us.
The moral of this story? NEVER buy a used car without getting it inspected, even if the dealer tells you a pretty story about a nice old lady from Utah who only used the car to drive to church on Sundays and kept it in pristine condition.
I considered giving this place two stars because of the guy at their other lot, who was awesome– I think his name was Joey– but since you apparently cannot conduct any financial transactions at that location, it’s sort of a moot point.

I was cautious about buying a used car as this was my first experience to purchase a car by myself and used car dealerships can be sketchy. I knew that I wanted a car with decently low mileage, in good shape, and in my price range. That’s when I stumbled upon R&D Motors.
I went to the N Loop location on a cold January morning and was welcomed by Rosy’s rosy smile and Rob’s friendly attitude. Please do not judge the business by the appearance on the inside or outside, yes it could use a cleaning and organizing but these guys still run a great business despite the appearance.
They let me test drive the car I was thinking about purchasing for three days. They were friendly and non-​pushy. Rob was respectable and helpful and Rosy was always straight forward and on her toes. I ended up getting the car and immediately the check engine light came on. My heart dropped to my stomach, but Rob honored his verbal «30 day warranty» and I took the car in to get the torque converter and transmission fluid replaced. They let me borrow one of their cars while it was being fixed. Now my car is running fine and I am pleased to do business with them; they really go out of their way to make the experience great.

Later that day, my husband got a phone call from R&D apologizing about the little mix up with when we were supposed to drop the truck off. Took the truck in today. Mechanic was super nice and and apologetic about what happened.
All the reviews are true. R&D is very much about customer service. I totally held out in my rating to see what would happen. If we’d be given the runaround or if they really lived up to the hype. A true test of a good business is how they deal with things that may go wrong. I’m happy to say that they are the real deal.
Great business! Would recommend to everyone.
Oh, and they fixed my a/​c free of charge. Was told to call if we had anymore problems with it. :)

This is the first time I have bought a car from R & D Motors and I couldn’t be happier. Not only do they have a great selection of high end cars at a great price, but the customer service goes above and beyond. I will definitely be getting my next car from them!
