I was introduced to QZ Cycle when Woods refused to work on my 1992 Yamaha. This was curious to me because Woods had performed previous service work on this bike, but for some reason deferred me to QZ. I delivered bike to John and explained that I had worked for two years in another state and the gasoline sitting in the carbs had deposited a resin on the interior of the carbs and the bike would not run well at low RPM. John looked the bike over and pointed out some other issues that would be beneficial to upgrade. I had expected some up selling as this bike is old enough to vote rendering some components and fluids good candidates for replacement. He explained the rational for the replacement (s) and I agreed. The turnaround time was reasonable and the work returned the bike to the high performer it had been in its earlier life. An additional benefit to working with John is that a motorcycle safety inspection shop is just a couple of doors down from his shop.

Great honest guys. They fixed my Harley Nightster. I sold them my Banshee also. Great to deal with with and they take the time to chat with you.

Took the bike in for an oil change and inspection… done in no time, bike works beautifully, I recommend him to everyone I know who wants/​needs motorcycle work done.

Man where do I start?! Zack and John have saved my life more than a few times with essential feedback and repairs; they always deliver by doing the job well, fast and for a reasonable price. I love how they are willing to answer my questions and work with me. From monthly maintenance to big repairs these guys have it covered! Need your bike fixed and you live in North Austin? Go to QZ Cycle. Hell, need your bike fixed and live in South Austin? QZ Cycle. This is great place for motorcycle service no matter what side of the city you live on.
I brought a tire in to get plugged because I had a screw embedded in it. I almost wish I brought my bike in for something else just so I could stay and look at all the bikes they are working on in the shop. I was in and out in less than 5 minutes and for a very reasonable price too. We even had a little talk about tires.
If I need service and I’m not capable of pulling it off in the garage, I’ll be back to QZ.

Awesome little shop that will make you feel like their most important customer. Oil change on my bike took less than 30 min and the mechanics were really thorough, helpful, and knowledgeable.

john, the owner, and zach are quite awesome. they’re so honest, generous, and thoughtful. john ended fixing this and that for free because he didn’t want me to leave with an unsafe bike. i highly recommend QZ!

These guys are great. My tank started leaking pretty badly. Had it towed to them on a Wednesday morning, by Friday they had it patched up tight. Hasn’t dripped a drop yet.
Fast, fair priced and the guys that work in the shop are honest as well as helpful. I will only be going here for all my repair work. Highly recommended.

Easy to find with all the bikes out front the guy that’s going to be working on my bike came up to me remembered talking to me on the phone and what I needed we shock hands waited for the bike to cool down and he was off to work

Call ahead to make sure they have the time and space to work on your bike if you want to get it done that same day. If you’re going down Palmer after exiting MoPac, this place is the second left turn you can make from Palmer. If you see a big Yamaha sign behind the window you know you’re looking at the right place.
I bought a used 1999 Suzuki SV650 about a week before I came here, and I brought it here to get a new rear tire mounted on the bike. The bike had been sitting for so long the tires had thousands of miles of tread left but was already cracking. On top of that, the fork seals were rotting and started to peel off. Or so I thought.
I called several bike mechanics in North Austin to figure out where I could get the rear tire mounted for the cheapest price. Prices ranged from $ 70+ from a stealership to $ 45, which is what QZ Cycle offered — a very reasonable price.
Zach did the job and didn’t mind me watching everything he did and occasionally asking stupid questions about my bike and a bunch of things I saw around the shop. I also bothered John a little bit while he was working on another bike to ask about other stuff around the shop. I was pretty much standing right next to Zach the whole time until John asked me to stand back a little, which I later found out was because due to insurance purposes no one is supposed to even be in the work area. There was a pretty big sign that stated so. I am not a smart customer.
Anyway, while changing the tire I asked Zach how to tighten the chain, and he ended up tightening and lubing the chain as well after mounting the tire. He also put some WD-​40 on the rough foot pegs’ pivots, which I didn’t even ask for. I also asked about the fork seals, which I thought needed replacement asap — a job that would cost in excess of $ 200. He explained to me that it was actually the dust seals that were rotting, and the oil seals which are the important bits were still fine as long as I didn’t see any leaking oil, and that I didn’t need to get it replaced for at least another riding season. I even asked if it was something I could do myself, and he explained what needed to be done and the tools required. I knew right then and there that these guys are honest mechanics, and are in no way out to get your money.
As I was leaving, John popped out of nowhere just to shake my hand and tell me to be careful. They both informed me that I should take it slow and ride gently for 100 miles to break in the new tires. You can tell these guys care about their customers.
I rode out to carve Lime Creek that same day, not heeding their advice, but that has nothing to do with QZ Cycle. The place doesn’t look nice on the outside and there’s no waiting lounge for you to sit in while you wait for them to work on your bike, but if you just want someone who will work on your bike and not any unnecessary luxuries, this is the place to go.

They’ve never heard of the number one selling scooter in America! Shitty customer service over the phone. Honestly, don’t waste your time

John has worked on my HondaCB-​1 and on my Honda CRB600. They put new tires on it. Great job on a timely basis and cheaper than all other places I asked around in Austin. Highly recommend this local business to my motorcycle riding friends.

Took my ’05 Honda CBR600 here after purchasing it off craigslist for a once-​over. Overall they did an excellent job getting my bike into perfect shape. She wasn’t that bad to begin with but they did all of the basic lubing, oil change, and chain maintenance. They also fixed some electrical issues with my headlights, put in new flush-​mount turn signals, and unseized my rear brake and replaced brake pads.
The bike rode slicker than snot in a chicken beak when I got it back. Service was excellent and pricing was very reasonable.

First off, before I begin, I would like to let it be known to all that Google maps (and the map here on Unilocal) are actually wrong – it’s close, but it’s on the opposite side of the street. You won’t see a sign either, some weird legal stuff they’re still trying to work out, but just look on the opposite side of the road, and you’ll see some of the tell-​tale signs of a mechanic’s shop.
Edit: one of the pictures here shows the storefront well, take a gander at it so you know what to look for.
I was recommended to QZ cycles for an engine rebuild by two other locations I called, one of them saying he used to work with John – and had nothing but good things to say. This Unilocal page definitely speaks for itself, so I honestly don’t even feel the need to write, except to say they’re all correct.
I’d say the big deal is that John has integrity and humility, and it’s just difficult to find that so readily evident in mechanics. It’s impressive, and it sticks with you. You can hear it in his voice.
I left my scooter there for way too long, and when I finally had the money to come do what I had been meaning to all along, he didn’t give me any trouble, even though I had my tail between my legs. His pricing is reasonable. I’m still waiting to get my bike back, but I have full confidence it will be better than it was when new when he’s done with it.
If there is a negative, in my particular case, the repair is coming along a little slowly, but there was a line, and I certainly took my time, so I don’t fault him for it. What’s more, he’s working on my scooter, and I know he prefers motorcycles.

Anyways, I will definitely be recommended him to people I know, and certainly be returning.
Update: Not only did he perform the repair within the budget he promised, even though his hours ended up going over, in order to tune the scooter properly he serviced the carb. When it got back to me, the scooter idled so quietly that coming up to a stoplight, one would swear that it had just died. It just became silent. Unbelievable. The man is like the horse whisperer of horsepower.

I’ve since had many interaction with Jon and Zach, and they have all been positive – including giving me some studs for an exhaust for a motorcycle I later owned when I had some break off, giving free advice, and just being helpful guys. I had them do a general service on another bike I got. And they hosted a motorcycle co-​op at their garage free of charge.
If you want to buy the guy a beer, know that he only drinks Dos Equis.
Also, don’t be put off by Jon’s quiet nature. He doesn’t like people talking too much or sitting over his shoulder. It’s just his way; but he’s an honest man who does good work. Zach will make a much better conversation companion if you need someone to talk over what’s going on.
Anyways, steller service. I do most of my own work now, but they are the only shop in town I’d consider going to.

I took my «new» (1985) BMW K100RT to John. It had a number of problems, among which was that it had just started leaking gasoline and thus really wasn’t safe to ride.
John was great — even though he doesn’t normally work on anything other than Japanese bikes, he took pity on the fix I was in and chose to stay late to fix the fuel line for me. He didn’t have to, but he did and also told me some of the other things that needed to be done to the bike when I found somebody who does work on BMWs.
I’ll definitely send anybody I know with a Japanese bike to John.

John is a really nice guy and a straight shooter. I had new tires/​chain/​brakes that I needed to be put on, plus the engine was pretty rust-​filled as I’d just had the tank restored.
He made sure everything was in great working condition and was always upfront about any potential issues or costs.
Definitely bring my bike back if it ever needs any more TLC.

I wish more places ran their business the way John runs QZ Cycle. He is honest and fair and takes pride in his work. I have a motorcycle that sat waaay too long and thought this «baby is a goner» but John and his «miracle hands» were able to bring it back to life. And I know it wasn’t an easy thing to do considering the shape it was in. I think it was easier for Moses to part the Red Sea than it was to bring this bike back into working condition. Ditto on David R’s review that they are bike whisperers cuz they truly are!
Highly recommend QZ Cycle for repairs on your bike-​great communication from the staff and you know you are not going to get ripped off by them. He will only recommend repairs that you need and won’t oversell you things that don’t. Excellent bang for your buck since he doesn’t price gouge either. QZ Cycle is the best in town for motorcycle repair-​hands down!

I foolishly let my bike sit too long over the winter and of course it wouldn’t start. When I looked around for a good repair shop, all the reviews were either poor or mixed for all the bike shops in town. I didn’t know where to take it. And so it sat in the driveway.
I finally discovered QZ Cycle on Unilocal and took my bike in based on the great reviews. Today, I got my bike back and couldn’t be happier.
After over a year of sitting outside, it needed a carb clean, tank repair, and general servicing. John did a great job and delivered my bike on estimate and on time.
He also cleaned my bike and had it inspected next door at YOS so that it was all ready to go when I picked it up. Did I mention that he met me on Thanksgiving day to deliver my bike? How’s that for service?
Hopefully I won’t have another problem like this, but if I do I’ll take it back to John at Q.Z. Highly recommended!
P. S. — the shop may be a little hard to find at first. But if you see the sign for YOS Automotive, you’re in the right place and Q. Z is right next door.
