I have had a video surveillance system for two years. It works flawlessly. At least until my internet provider installed fiber and a new modem. This led to a serious technical problem that involved getting the camera feed to communicate with my network. The internet provider was unable to provide meaningful assistance but Protection 1 support is very good and the tech got everything sorted out. All I really need from this company is good technical support and they provided it.

I do not recommend this office. The local office is misleading and evasive. They lied to me when asked about cancelling my contract with them. They said they did not even have access to the specifics about the cancellation penalty «since I wasn’t holding up my end of the agreement.» They (Bob Winock) referred me to the national customer service office, who cancelled my service with no problem. The national office told me that the local people are really just set up to do installation and service calls. Wish I had known that before I paid for months of security service that wasn’t even set up at my new home, because they said I couldn’t cancel. Buyer beware.

My experience has honestly been great… because I can actually sleep at night… knowing that if someone so much as shifts a door or window in the exterior of my house my alarm will go ballistic. At which point so will I.
Our installation took one visit. Our system works perfectly, alerting me to any movement on an exterior window or door when I’m home and it’s set, or when I’m away if it’s tripped I get a call. Feeling that sense of security is crucial for me in this screwed up world.
I’ve never had a false alarm although I’ve set it off myself accidentally multiple times. I also have no pets to trip it or anything accidentally. Plus little things like that let me know it’s working and I have time to enter my false-​alarm code if it’s accidental. Our three year contract includes the ability to transfer. I haven’t been through that process and don’t know if it will include hidden fees… but I do know that this alarm system single handedly allows me to sleep at night and I’ll never go without an alarm system again in my life.
So, I have no complaints about Protection 1 and feel they’ve done a fine job for me and my family.

I have used this service for 13 years. This month we upgraded the system and signed a new three year contract however, I am now disappointed with the company.
Parts of the system (though technically working) do not meet the intended purpose. I have asked them to come out and correct the system (it had been two weeks) and they have said they will only come correct the system if I pay ~$ 500 since I signed the completion form at install, my other option is to buy $ 500 more in equipment to solve the problem. Given that I have not had this type of system before I did not know what questions to ask at install and so when we started using the system it did not meet the intended purpose. I have escalated this issue with no success. I will have to pay the money for the correction because the system is not useful without the correction to the install. I have been satisfied with this company until now but for me to upgrade to a system that is double the monthly price plus $ 2500 in equipment and Protection One to not come out and make the necessary improvements to get the system functioning as it should, has made me a dissatisfied customer and I would recommend that others choose a different provider.
If they correct this issue, I will submit an updated review. I will say that Dan, the installer, was very professional, on time and courteous. He addressed some challenges when the system was upgraded. It is not the installer I am disappointed in but in Protection One as a company.

For the most part the experience has been ok excluding billing and misrepresentation from Wesley, the sales guy. Install went fine and they did come out and make adjustments when I replaced windows and doors. Wesley gave us a total for set up, said we would be set up for auto draft for a monthly billing and asked us to esign an electronic contract. After signing and after auto draft started, I began to get bills in the mail saying I was past due. I called to find out that the contract stated that I had to pay three months in advance. Our sales person said we paid the first month with set up and then were auto drafted. I have made several calls stating I would not pay the additional amounts until I spoke with Wesley personally. He has yet to call (surprise) and I’m still receiving bills.
