Post West Austin

In 2013, my van got broken into. Somehow the damages came to $ 2,500 for two windows, curtains, and window tint. Ford van windows are expensive. Curtains were custom. Tint was Sunbusters best. They also stole $ 500 in tools. I wasn’t allowed to look at the surveillance. I was told that the cops wouldn’t care to look at it. I have run 10 family restaurants for the past 33 years. I can say that the police will look into burglary. I even look at my own surveillance to handle customer and employee complaints as low as $ 20.

This apartment is in a great location, super safe, has nice appliances and maintenance pretty much always comes the day you request something. However, the fire alarms go off at random times during the night, several times during the day or super early morning ALL THE TIME. I have been at Post a little over a year and heard them go off around 10 – 15 different times, and gotten emails about them going off when I was out of town. Every time they go off, the issue is vaguely addressed with explanations of something not being screwed in correctly or something along those lines, and we always get promised that it will be fixed ASAP. Like I said, I’ve been here over a year and it’s still happening. They also assure us that monetary supplementation is not necessary and that they are just as frustrated as residents are. Somehow this doesn’t seem fair when we get woken up at 3AM by blaring alarms or are late to work because they go off at 6:30AM and we have to exit the building. We won’t be renewing our lease.

Fire alarms still not fixed after going off multiple times in the middle of the night… had to huddle with my 3 month old under the bed with headphones. Spend your money elsewhere. For a place that advertises themselves as «luxury apartments»…not even close. Terrible.

As stated in the previous reviews, it does not matter how nice employees are or how nice the apartments are if you are being awoken in the middle of the night by false fire alarms. We’ve lived here for 3 years now and this has been an ongoing issue since the day we moved in. It’s funny to see the Post’s responses to the older Unilocal reviews stating that the «issues have been resolved» when the alarm falsely sounded again last night around 2 AM, and again, there was no fire. Residents no longer leave their apartments when the alarms sound, because each time it sounds people become desensitized. Just like the boy who cried wolf. If God forbid there is ever a real fire here, there is no doubt in my mind that people will be killed. I hope Post employees can sleep well knowing they are responsible for this.

The fire alarms are most certainly not fixed. Take your money elsewhere unless you enjoy sitting in a stranger’s lawn at all hours of the night.

Apartments are apartments. You’re going to hear your neighbors, you won’t always get to park exactly where you want to and occasionally there may be an issue with fire alarms. If you can’t handle these things, you shouldn’t live in an apartment. That being said, this is as it gets.
Aside from the location, price and really cool layout it is totally the staff that makes this place great. The leasing team, Lee and Jason were awesome. They took the time to show us multiple apartments on multiple days and I never felt like they were rushing me. Even though they are the leasing guys, they have continued to be a big help to us whenever we need them. The property managers are great as well. Anna and Samantha bend over backwards to keep the residents happy and we totally appreciate it. They are always doing something for us, be it brunch, meet ups or even bringing bottled water and pizza to the clubhouse on a sunday when the city water line got shut off due to construction down the street.
If you are looking for a downtown apartment feel without the hassle and high price, this is your spot. Go see Lee and Jason and you can be our neighbor!

top notch !!! no doubt about it. staff always goes over and beyond to make you feel just at home. community always clean. no pet rent… resident bruch every other saturday (yummm) … workout room equipment always working, young professionals, and maintenance is always there to help !!!
if there is a flaw in the system they do everything to make sure you are fully compensated … for instance i have been in apts whose water is out but no water bottles were provided nor bathrooms! no matter where you live there will always be positives and negatives. if you really way out post west pros and cons. you will find out that your money is well spent here :)
also — rent only went up $ 30 after end of lease not bad for great community !!! had to move for other reasons !!! yes alot of exclamations because thats how much i enjoyed living there

Fire Alarms! Nice apartments, but loud neighbors and constant fire alarms. The fire alarms are so loud that you have no choice but to stand outside on the street. The leasing agents are nice, but that doesn’t make up for the annoyances.

I am giving this property 2 stars because of the design of the apartments.
This is the third year I’ve lived at a post property and as soon as my lease is over I’m moving out. I’d move out now if I could but I didn’t realize there’s no way to sublease your lease here– which is bull.
Pro: design of the apts are top notch for the price and the location is perfect for me. 15 min to dt without paying crazy downtown rent. Maintenance guys are awesome! Most repairs are free and done within 24 hours.
Con: management has been horrible. After living in both south Lamar post and here I’ve lived through 20+ fire alarms. I can’t sleep at night sometimes because I’m afraid I’m going to be awaken by a fire alarm. I’ve been without running water here for atleast a week in total. There always seems to be something breaking. Both properties have the same builder and both had fire alarm issues making me believe that it’s either the builder of the fire engineer. I mean most apartments in Austin don’t have fire alarm issues. Having been displaced this many times because of the fire alarm is inhumane. Management will be quick to say why it goes off but not quick to fix the problems.
I’m at a crossroads with post because I love my unit and its unique architecture and the price. I don’t know where I could find a studio in central Austin this nice for $ 950/​month. The view is amazing. I am moving like mentioned ultimately because of management and fire alarm issues– if these were non existent then this would be prime real estate.

Do not live at this apartment complex. The fire alarm goes off in the middle of the night for no reason whatsoever, and management (not of which lives on the property) strolls into their office every morning at 10 am and sends out some stupid email telling us why it happened and that it won’t again… just to be followed by another night of the screeching alarm going off.
If you have a dog, get ready to pay an ARM and a LEG for the deposit. You will not be getting any of this back either.
Also, the entire complex had to go without water for 2 whole days during Thanksgiving. That means no showering, no cooking, no going to the bathroom.
THIS PLACE IS A LIVING HELL.
DO NOT LIVE HERE.

The fire alarms have gone off in the middle of the night for the past THREE weekends and now we are dealing with NO WATER for a day. Oh but don’t worry! They ordered us pizza and suggested to flush our toilets with pool water. Luxury apartments alright! Is it possible to have a peaceful weekend? The answer is no

I would like to chime in about living at Post West Austin since I think it has been misrepresented in previous reviews.
Overall, this is a very nice place to live. The apartments are very nice and location cannot be beat. My husband and I have lived here for almost two years and we will likely stay until we buy a home. We live on the first floor and love our plank flooring and courtyard view.
We have also been very pleased with the Post West employees. I have always felt comfortable emailing them with any concern and they have responded promptly and kindly each time. In the past couple of months, there have been a couple incidents where the fire alarms malfunctioned in the middle of the night. It was certainly an inconvenience and great annoyance. However, through the steady stream of emails and updates from Post West we have felt that they handled the situation in the best way they could. We are business owners and understand that sometimes stuff happens.
If you want to be in North central austin in a very nice, safe apartment this is still a great choice in my opinion.

Dear Post West Apartment Homes Management,
After reading your generic, annoying, and disappointing response to a continuous issue for the last month I have decided to take action and use every resource I have to demote this property. I will continue to blog and promote about how Post West Austin sucks more than Hitler.
Let me count the ways…
First…Hey Post… guess what? There are corporate offices and cemeteries that have been around longer than you. Wanna know another fun fact? They have lasted longer than your property and are still standing with great water pressure. These wonderful people have NEVER lost sleep over faulty fire alarms.
Secondly, the fact that you won’t own or accept responsibility for the countless residents who have lost sleep or been displaced due to this annoyance is absolutely disgusting. I have a dog… a gorgeous and sweet Yorkie who you made me spend an outlandish amount of a deposit on. This beautiful creature has a HUGE issue with loud ringing noises. With that being said, THREE WHOLE NIGHTS I have had to escape MY HOME during your fire alarms and find refuge in a safer and quieter place to protect my animal.
Ya…let that sink in for a second. I have had to LEAVE MY HOME in the MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT to protect myself and my dog from your stupid fucking fire alarm malfunctions. You’re the fucking WORST.
It is abhorring to know I’m not even safe from this property in my own home that I pay a ridiculous amount of rent on. I could go into a novel about how much this property sucks (e.g. fire alarm malfunction, no cell service, absurd software rent increase, parking), but I digress. What is the point of explaining why this property and management sucks to a corporate party that doesn’t care about renter retention and just money?
With all of this being said, let me sum this up for whoever is still reading. I will make it a public point to ruin and shame this property with every ounce that I have in me. My lease is almost up, I pray to GOD another alarm doesn’t go off before then because I will lose it on all of you. I’ve spoken with other post properties (South Lamar and Barton Creek) and this fire alarm issue seems to be a regular thing at all properties. The start of this lawsuit has been fun, and your employees very informative on the way things are run.
I’ve also attached a video from the second night I’ve had to leave my home… ENJOY!!!

False fire alarms have been going off since July. Not until ¹¹⁄₂₃ does the CEO acknowledge the error, but they still refuse to accept full responsibility despite false fire alarms being a problem at multiple Post Properties (hello, Post South Lamar). Post refuses to accommodate us when their negligence forces us from a space we paid for. This is akin to being unfairly locked out of our units (unable to get in, access our belongings), and management is just like, «We know it’s an inconvenience. Maybe we’ll stop locking you out even if you don’t do anything wrong, but you’re left to find your own place to sleep! I personally want to apologize for any inconvenience you have had related to the recent issues with the fire alarm system at Post West Austin.
Each of you chose to make Post West Austin your home and all of us at Post sincerely appreciate your residency.
Our associates strive every day to provide you with a superior living experience. We know that unforeseen mechanical failures, such as the issues with the fire alarm system, not only are an inconvenience but also undermine your satisfaction with Post and with our onsite and corporate associates. I share your frustration.
Let me share with you the facts as I know them.
Post was working with a fire alarm contractor to address the mechanical issues that caused the alarm to sound earlier this past week. Last night the fire alarm sounded due to a drastic fluctuation in water pressure in the Austin City water system following flooding throughout the area. Of course, even though last night’s issue was presumably unrelated to the previous problem, following those other recent mechanical failures, this merely added insult to injury.
Last night, Post contacted the Fire Marshal to discuss the system and to determine the best way to monitor the property without causing undue additional inconvenience to you, our valued residents. With the Fire Marshal’s agreement, the system was placed on fire watch, which means that we have instituted a ²⁴⁄₇ physical monitoring of the property until the system issues are addressed.
Post will keep you informed of our progress.
Let me address one other issue. Despite the requests by some residents for monetary compensation related to the recent inconvenience, Post believes the most appropriate way to re-​earn any lost trust is to keep you informed, to confirm our dedication to fixing the issue, and to every reasonable extent work tirelessly to provide you with the superior living experience you desire.

Parking sucks. Horrible management. Terrible customer service. Repeated middle of the night fire alarms from a system in disrepair. Would not recommend to anyone. Stay away.

Hate it here. Nice apartments good amenities but at 3 am or 1am the not so silent fire alarm goes off, and boom you are sitting outside freezing in 34 degrees on cold wet floor after paying fregging $ 1300 for 1 bed.

I have been at Post West for 6 months now and it has had it’s ups and downs and I am basically re-​writing my entire review and increasing my rating. The main issue I’ve experienced is from multiple false fire alarm issues. Since this experience, I think upper management has heard and responded to the displeasures myself and the residents have expressed (speaking on my own behalf of course) and the property manager has taken a proactive approach in communicating with us recently and as a team they have made some changes, are keeping the alarms at bay during repair and I believe things are on the up. I had some recent contact with property management associates and they were very responsive to my concerns and they were professional, friendly and actually very forgiving of my previous review here considering I wanted to renew my lease after all (foot in mouth).
It is a great location to live in, the parking is an adjustment but I have recently aquired a second vehicle and they had no problem issuing me a second parking tag for it. If you are a dog lover like myself, this is the place to be… there is a large «dog park» across the street (unfortunately I do not have my dog living with me).
It is close enough to downtown but far enough away to be quiet and peaceful. The neighbors I have met here have been great folks. I do not utilize the pool or gym here as the pool is not heated and I have shrinkage issues and I have a local gym membership else where. The business center offers free coffeee ²⁴⁄₇ (love that), the computers in the business center are good enough for surfing or printing out docs in abind.
I had the AC go out sometime during the summer and though it took a couple of tries, they got it fixed and blowing cold again quickly. Never had an issue with them responding to maintenance calls and I am the kind of guy that doesn’t mind turning a wrench anyway so it is rare for me to ask for help.
That is my re-​review of Post West and if things conitinue on the up I will have no problem giving them 4 stars.

Move out process was fine, but I did have a problem with guest parking one night. It was very stressful because I had a guest coming in from out of town and all of the visitor parking was taken. He had to park about a 5 or 10 minute walk away in the neighborhood and worry about towing. The next morning there was visitor parking available, but it was quite a hassle that night. I know that many first floor residents will park in guest parking because it is more convenient for them, but management doesn’t do anything about it and guests often have nowhere to park if they arrive on weekend evenings. Still, overall I enjoyed living at the Post!

Everything is great. When we have a service order, it’s fixed before noon. Very dog friendly, and the neighbors seem friendly. I love the gym. The pool looks great, as do the courtyards, one of which has great grilling stations. Wish I’d moved in here years ago.
Some of the tenants seem to think it’s their due to park in visitor or handicapped parking, and some can’t be bothered to take their garbage all the way to the chutes and instead plants full bags outside their doors, but overall the sense of community is better here than I’ve experienced in apartment complexes.

My wife and I lived at Post West Austin for 22 months ending yesterday. Overall our experience was decent. One I wouldn’t have written about until our move out disaster, which prompts viewing Post in a new light.
First, our rent went up 23% after our first year lease. We would have moved (and I wish we had…) but our son was due a few weeks after the lease ended, which made moving a tough proposition. Then, when we needed a four month extension, the rent was going to go up another $ 400 for a total increase of 50%. That ensured we would not be staying at Post West Austin.
Second, we had some difficulties upon our move out. We gave notice 60 days ahead of time as they had requested, but didn’t hear a peep from them except that they had received the notice. When we were a couple weeks away from our move out date, I visited the office to see what sorts of things they would need upon our move out. They only said to «leave it as you found it.» I tried to ask questions about the condition of carpet, any small nail holes from hanging pictures, etc, but they were either unable or unwilling to elaborate. I asked about a checklist for moving out and the procedures they would follow. They couldn’t provide anything except the original guidance of «leave it as you found it.» Really frustrating.
What is worse, though, was how we were treated on move out. Post apparently has all sorts of rules, that are never stated to residents, about move out. They were unflinching about these rules, which will end up costing us. We felt really frustrated about the move out process because we were trying to do the right thing all along, but were met with very little information. Then, we were then held to a defined standard that was never communicated.
Third, which is probably clear by the second point but should be stated again, the folks working at Post West Austin seem to have very little idea what they are doing. I’m not saying they aren’t intelligent, but that they are given very little ability by corporate and are clearly untrained. They seem to have no idea how a «luxury» apartment complex should handle when you move out. It’s almost like they are trying to get you on something piddly to boost their Other Revenue line item.
Last, I feel like a Unilocal review on Post West Austin wouldn’t be complete without noting that the complex is a little rowdy. There were a few times that we would have to ask people to be a little quieter at 3am, heard of or saw vandalism or burglary, or had to deal with the flagrant messes of others.
As for nice things to say about Post, there is one: Kevin (the building engineer) is a great guy. He’s on top of maintenance issues for residents and is just a fine human being. He was super trustworthy, which is obviously important for a guy that enters your place to fix stuff while you’re gone.
