Orangewood Suites

My wife, son and I stayed here while our house was being built. We lived here for 6 months. The place is in need of updating, though they are in the process of doing that now (January 2016). The place was clean and the A/​C — heat worked fine. The staff is top notch, friendly and helpful. They have a breakfast every day and a dinner Mon-​Thur. Breakfast is fine with a hot offering that rotates along with the usual toast, bagels, muffins, cereal, fruit, drinks and such. The maintenance staff is on top of any problem you may encounter. There are usually a few state troopers staying there so I liked the security that provided. The cleaning staff was very nice and did a great job. Location is very convenient to the Austin area. Close to downtown and easy access to the highways that will get you anywhere. Enjoyed our stay and the folks running the place. We would stay again. I actually need to go visit everyone. Especially with the new renovations this place will be top notch. Stay, you won’t be disappointed!

No. Don’t do it. Just awful. We stayed for one night last week with my family. For the price point, this is just not the best option. Yes, it has 2 beds, although given that the beds are not in separate rooms with doors, this doesn’t really matter. We arrived after dark, so this certainly added to the sketchiness of this place. In the room next to us, 2 women were clearly selling their services and were loitering outside the door smoking cigarettes. Once we got inside our unit, I wanted to wrap myself and my children in a body suit before we touched anything. It is a dilapidated, never been updated, grimy place. I was really wishing we had booked at the Motel 6 suites right around the corner…
On the upside and given that I have to give one star — the gentleman on staff who helped me out by getting a couple baggies of ice to put in my cooler was super nice.

The facilities themselves are pretty nice. Our room is a smoking room. Thank Goodness, they still offer them!!! 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom, and great price. The phenomenal nature of all that, including their policy to let u cancel up to 3 on the day of ur reservation, by the very poor customer service. I travel with an autistic child (for medical testing) have my friend a recovered cancer patient, and this far… despite free supper and breakfast have had to order in to keep from hauling everyone across the very large parking lot, upsetting my child (who doesn’t do well in crowds), and do without things like extra (barely have enough) towels or ashtrays (none in smoking room). It’s just pitiful. We will see how the rest of our stay goes…

Its a lot of «meh» the rooms are dated, the bathrooms are extremely small, i have to straddle the toilet to close the door. The shower heads are extremely low, almost comical. The paint was flaking off the ceiling. The toilet barely flushed, The towels i’m convinced are made from 30 grit sand paper… Positive note, the bed was decent, and the AC blew cold. It’s okay for the price, but if you can afford to spend a little more on a nicer hotel, i suggest you do so!

They definitely photo shop their pictures to make the rooms look nicer. It is an old apartment complex. Woken up in the morning by a stranger asking about a car. I guess. What you pay is what you get? Next time I know not to be so cheap. looking at double tree next door made me sad.

If you get a decent price it’s OK but breakfast isn’t great, showers are built for short people, and rooms aren’t cleaned properly (it is a pet friendly hotel and I’m allergic to cats. I was having allergies the whole time). The suites are convenient if you are traveling with family but this wouldn’t be my first choice!

I’m just glad I didn’t have an «extended stay» at this place.
Orangewood is an extended stay hotel featuring admittedly spacious studio style and 2 bedroom units. The units also feature full kitchens, some dish and flatware, a dishwasher, full fridge, etc.
Basically everything you’d expect a studio apartment to feature. But damned if I want to stay there for long.
The room’s sound proofing is a joke, and I repeatedly thought neighbors were talking to me personally in the toilet numerous times. Turns out they were talking amongst themselves in their own unit and it just sounded like they were in mine…
The rooms are *dated*. First, the *tiny* bathroom. Clearly designed for guests under 5′ tall, the showers on the bathtubs are pointed at crotch height, don’t go up any further and have BARELY enough water pressure to not flow straight downward. The rest of the room isn’t much better, with old sinks, old toilets, and old, yellowed linoleum in the kitchen that should have been replaced years ago.
There is wifi, but good luck using it for anything. I think it’s got a range of 20 mm from the pool house with a strong wind.
We were attending an event in the middle of the Austin summer planned at this hotel, during which there were nothing short of 2 total failures of the air conditioning system, (rooms were changed) roaches seen in the kitchens, and 0 maintenance of the pool (which was in near constant use, it being summer and all) for *4* days! The pool had so much algae growing in it, not only was it green, it might have been a declared a community garden at that point!
The place is as disabled accessible as the museum of stairs (if such a place existed) and featured second floor «townhouse» units that were only accessible by stairs, a sprawling campus and very poor parking accommodations.

If I ever need family or friends to stay anywhere, I always recommend them to go here because of the loft prices. I’ve been here a couple of times and I love the whole upstairs/​downstairs loft hotel. It has a kitchen and it has two restrooms as well as a living room. Talk about a home away from home! I felt so comfortable and the staff were really friendly! David Rogers helped me to find this place and gave me a great deal to stay there several days! I like that it’s in the middle of Austin so it’s very convenient for a night downtown or go up to North Austin for some great restaurants. Thanks, Orange Wood Suites! I’ll be returning soon!

I stayed here last weekend and it wasn’t too bad. The stove in the kitchen was very old (like from the late 80’s or early 90’s) as was the dishwasher. One of the pilots on the stove didn’t work and the other one made a funny smell. Other than that the place was pretty nice until I saw roaches. My husband identified them as German cockroaches (He is learning entomology at C school). I had to shake all of my stuff before I could pack up and leave. The breakfast and Dinner/​Happy hour were very good and there is a small basketball court onsite. The pool however is small, very small.

I will never be back.
I was highly disappointed. At first i thought this place would we nice based on the pictures the website had given. Boy was i wrong! Everything in the room was out dated and looked like it came from the 60’s! The bathroom was small and i believe they may have painted the bathtub because the paint was chipping on the bottom to which you had to place a bath mat on the bottom. The room also smelled as if there may have been mold somewhere. Next time i’ll spend the extra money to go to the HIlton or Holiday Inn,

For our stay during busy busy busy F1 weekend (the first ever in Austin, TX) we scored a stay at orangewood suites. They jacked up the prices for F1, but so did evryone else. that’s how we ended up here. I’d guess it’s a $ 120 a night Joint for a king. i think we paid $ 255. Here’s the bullet point list of the experience:
–shuttle service from hotel to track needed work. Was late. Not hotels fault, in fact they were happy to help get feedback to Make it better. We never really found out if it was we got a car instead to be safe
–happy hour not bad
–staff very nice
–location… Usually not my first choice but for F1 COTA raceway PERFECT! We were on the right side of town for Relatively easy in and out access. Only 10 minutes to 6^th street. :)
–location. Lots of food nearby. Variety of sit downs and fast. Less than 2 miles to grocery/​target store
–room. Spacious. Mainly clean. The tub had a slow drain as well as the sinks.
–room. Mainly clean. Could use a super scrub down
–room. The last night’s coachroach scared the bajeezers out of me. At LEAST 3.5 inches long. But hey, that’s texas. And in all fairness, he was near the trash.
–room. Needed instructions on how to ‘use’ a suite type room. Comparable to candlewood, they could step it up a notch.
–amenities. Soap/​shampoo made in china, half roll of toilet roll and half a roll of paper towel
–amenities. Fireplace was lovely touch. Of course having a kitchen was cool. Medium sized too, not just a hot plate and a mini fridge.
–amenities. Free wifi!
–Check-​in. Easy, but a little odd. They were like, come, relax… I thought for a second they would try to sell us a timeshare, but then it was just happy hour. Very nice i guess, a bit odd compared to what we are used to. :)
–check-​out. Simple. We pre-​paid and left.
If youre looking for four seasons accommodation, this isnt for you. But if you need a relatively clean place to stay in austin for an event. I aint bad. But if you event has no shuttle, plan on a car, cause austin taxis SUCK. But we cant blame the motel for that. :).
P. s. as usual, checked for bed bugs first. Saw none.

We stayed at Orangewood suites while we were waiting to close on my house. I searched around and found this hotel to be a suitable place for us. It had good reviews on trip advisor, Unilocal,took pets, free Wi-​Fi, hot breakfast, dinner/​happy hour and it was close to our jobs. We initially went to look at the hotel prior to us booking a stay. At first glance you can tell it is an older establishment and a little dated.
We were interested in staying in the 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom loft which included a full kitchen and patio or balcony depending on what floor you were on. The room had been updated with a nice 42″ flat screen TV downstairs, but the upstairs TV had not been updated. This was an issue for me because the older TV did not have any RCA cable connections! So if any gamers are reading this, you can imagine my devastation. How can I play my Xbox without any RCA hook ups??? Luckily I was able to bring my TV from storage and tragedy was averted.
The first couple of days here was okay, no issues no problems until BAM! I would say on our third day here we started to see roaches… eek! We didn’t complain though, we just went bought Raid sprayed the room and tried to look past it. We continue with our lives and everything is roses and lollipops until the weekend comes. I don’t know if our upstairs neighbors were having a Cinco de Mayo party or watching the Mayweather fight but they were LOUD. They partied until the wee hours of the morning (5am) and we got NO sleep! At this point I’m counting down the days until my closing so we can get out of this place. On Monday May 7^th, I was in my bed watching TV and surfing the internet when I saw something crawling on my bed. I quickly sprang into action and grabbed a tissue from the bathroom to kill it. After grabbing the bug I looked at the tissue to see what creature dared to crawl on my bed. When I saw what it was I nearly flipped my lid… a BED BUG. I closely examined the bug and used the power of Google to compare it to pictures of bed bugs and it was a match. We promptly went to the office to let them know. The lady I talked to (an older Hispanic lady) was less than helpful. I showed her the bug and she adamantly denied it was a bed bug. She told me that the hotel had brand new mattresses and pretty much that I was crazy. I showed her red marks and bumps on my arms from where I had been bitten. I had been itching like crazy and had bite marks on my body, but I didn’t put two and two together until I found the bug. She promptly told me that those weren’t from bed bugs because I would have lots more. After all, she boasts that the hotel staff members had training on bed bugs, so she knows what I showed her was NOT a bed bug. I’m told that she would report the incident to her manager (doubt that ever happened.) She offered to move us into another room, but that would have been more of a hassle. We were going to be checking out that Thursday so I decided to just suck it up. Things were fine and dandy until Thursday morning, May 10^th, around 2am. I wake up because I have this crawling sensation on my skin. I turn on the light, check my covers… nothing there. I turn back to look at my pillow and there are 3 BED BUGS crawling on the pillow. I grabbed an empty water bottle from the night stand and scoop the little suckers up! I stripped all the sheets and mattress cover off the bed and start frantically searching my mattress for more bugs. I wasn’t able to find anymore, but did manage to kill some roaches in the process. I didn’t even bother reporting this last incident to the office because we were checking out that morning and I didn’t feel like wasting my breath on staff that doesn’t listen. I hope they get the room we stayed in cleaned by a professional and the Health department is notified about the issue.
So to shorten my novel, would I recommend Orangewood Suites? NO I would not. The perks were good and it was nice having a short commute to work but for the money you could find a better extended stay.
PROS: Good breakfast/​dinner selection, free Wi-​Fi, very friendly kitchen staff
CONS: Roaches, bed bugs, loud guests

I booked a hotel at the very last minute for SXSW in Austin. All the major brand name hotels were fully booked, or 4x more expensive than usual, so I ended up at Orangewood Suites for ~$ 160 per night.
Looking at the pictures of the rooms on their website, I was actually pretty excited to stay here. The rooms looked like middle to high-​end corporate long term stay hotel suites. When I arrived, the hotel didn’t seem very busy, especially for SXSW weekend. The man working the reception desk was very friendly and helpful.
I went to my room, and it was plenty spacious and clean. A large studio apartment with a full kitchen. The room wasn’t as stylish as the website photos made it appear. The carpet was dark green, and the walls alternated between light and dark green. The furniture was old and unstylish. The comfort of the bed was average, not great, not terrible.
My one BIG complaint, was that the room was very cold when I checked in, like the heater wasn’t used at all when there were no guests. I turned on the heater to it’s highest setting during the night. The heater blows into only one room in the suite… THE BATHROOM. By the time I woke up the next morning, the apartment was finally warm, but it also smelled like SHIT. Enough that it woke me up 30 minutes before my very early alarm clock.
A great start, but a horrible smell of shit means I won’t ever be staying at the Orangewood Suites again. If my company wants me to travel for them, they’re going to have to pay up for a name brand reliable hotel chain next time.
