Some areas in which I specialize include:

–gender identity and gender transition

–sexual orientation and sexuality

–LGBTQ issues

–depression

–anxiety (social and otherwise)

–suicidality

–self harm

–romantic relationships

–family relationships

–life transitions (breakups, graduation, moving, loss, etc.)

–cultural, ethnic and racial identity

–communication skills

Some therapeutic techniques I employ are: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness, Motivational Interviewing, and Psychodynamic Psychotherapy.

I work with people from many walks of life and backgrounds. I seek to provide a non-judgmental environment where clients feel comfortable expressing every emotion from joy to despair. To paraphrase Irvin Yalom, I seek to create a unique therapy experience for each of my clients. I am committed to my clients and my profession. I also pride myself in being organized and professional, while also being approachable and easy to talk to.

History

Established in 2011.

I began growing my private practice in 2011 while I was the Clinical Director of Out Youth Austin. I have been in private practice exclusively since October 2012.

Monrovia V.

Business Owner

I hold a Masters in Social Work from Columbia University, and was the first social work intern at the Harvey Milk High School (the first school in the United States created as a safe learning environment for LGBTQ students). I received my clinical training from Katy Koonce, LCSW, and was the Clinical Director of Out Youth Austin from 2008 to 2012, before going into private practice. I also attended the University of Texas at Austin for my undergraduate education, where I earned a BA in English Literature & Cultural Anthropology.

I grew up in Baltimore, and have lived and traveled extensively on the East Coast. However, Austin has been my home for many years now. Therefore, I often find myself defending Texans to New Yorkers, and vice versa.

I have a passion for therapy and for the principles of social work.

Personal interests include music, dance, gardening, cooking, reading, and generally being a pop culture nerd.
