I recently attended this event at Brazos Hall. For $ 20 to charity in a nice venue, it’s okay, but I’d rather write a donation check and head elsewhere. For the admission price, you get 10 tasting of various tequilas and tapas, a photobooth and DJ music. When we first got there, around 6PM, I waited in line for about 20 minutes to get inside. Once inside, it appeared like a pretty good deal. There were about 6 – 8 local restaurants sampling free food and about 10 tequila vendor, including big names like Partida and Jose Cuervo and some lesser known tequila makers. If they hold this again, you definitely want to get there early. At each vendor, one ticket gets you a 3oz tequila mixed drink or a sip (maybe ¼ oz) shot of the stuff neat.
The problems? The people pouring the liquor know nothing about it so you don’t get any connection with the makers. When asked about the particulars about a few of the unknown brands, the pourers told us they don’t know anything and that the representatives of the tequilas are «somewhere». The worst part really is the long, long lines and you can only use one ticket at a time. Early in the evening, the lines were manageable, but a little after 7PM, the majority of food vendors had packed up and the tequila lines got even longer. Why can’t we use all the tickets in one place? Waiting 20 minutes at a time to get a ¼oz shot of tequila was no fun. And there really is nothing to do, but wait in line. I sampled 4 different tequilas and then gave my tickets away. I was also disappointed in the music, just expected better since this was sponsored by a radio station.
