History

Established in 1999.

Marakesh Café & Grill opened its doors in October of 1999 in Austin, TX. The owner and creator, Samir Saadeh, established a homey, authentic, friendly, and lively spot on Congress Avenue in downtown Austin. Marakesh quickly gained popularity for its flavorful dishes, live music events, belly dance performances, and unforgettable wall mural painted by local Austin talent. Over the course of 10 years it became an Austin favorite and go-to for lunch and dinner. After Samir’s late passing, his wife, Abir Saadeh, relocated the restaurant to the Allandale neighborhood in North Austin. Complete with a jazzy new look and updated menu, Marakesh is quickly gaining the hearts and appetites of new guests as well as reconnecting with many old friends of the downtown location. So, stop on by for a delicious meal and unique Mediterranean experience.
