The interior is a bit dirty and with zero atmosphere. The pad thai was really bad — completely like a gluey mess, with no distinction between any of the ingredients. I ate at another location(Anderson Lane) a few months ago and it was underwhelming but not just plain awful like this take-out pad thai. All this might be excusable if they were selling their food for cheap — but they are not! This pad thai was over $ 9. There are other similarly priced options in the area that are MUCH better!

I’ve been here several times, and their food just isn’t consistent. I usually get their pad see ewe or the pad thai. Tonight, their pad thai was so bad… There was too much sauce, and it was all a big mushy orange mess. The same taste over and over with a side of bean sprouts to change it up a little. I usually like their pad thai but not tonight. There goes $ 9. Their portion size is very generous, but now I have a generous portion of bad pad thai.

Their phad Thai is gigantic and really super tasty. They manage to fry up the tofu«just right» which seems to be hard to do.

This used to be my wife and I’s favorite restaurant when she was at UT9 years ago, so we came back with our son this past weekend to find that it has been run to the ground. We finally got the food and the pad thai tasted like loads of fish sauce was poured on it and the red curry had a smell of spoiled milk. Three bites in, we see a COCKROACH on the table. We tried to call a waiter to the table, who gave us eye contact and turned away from us. We had to get up to ask them to kill the cockroach. As you can imagine our appetites were ruined, and they still made us pay for our entrees. STAYAWAY.

Madam Mam’s is within walking distance of the UT campus so it’s a popular spot for many students looking to eat something other than typical dining hall food. But the convenient location isn’t the only reason Madam Mam’s is popular. This restaurant is known for its delicious food and the HUGE portions they give you. Now when I say huge, let’s just say that I can eat enough to the point I can’t eat anymore and still have enough food to take home for another full meal. So far, I’ve only tried the Fried Rice(chicken) and the Pad See Ew(beef) but no complaints about either dish! I would recommend either one for just about anybody. Also, the place is clean and well decorated, with an adequate amount of space for any party size, making for an overall good dining experience!

Close to campus. Little pricey but good portion for the price. I usually get their stir-fried noodles dish like Pad Sea-Ew and pad thai. F1 Pad thai is tasty but i like F13 bankrupt noodles(another version of Pad Thai) better, even though its name reminds me of my bank account :/

My friend wasn’t super excited about going. I think he thought it would be too casual, which it was. The ambiance is cold, a little rough around the edges and bad lighting. But the curry was so so amazing. I was in the mood for curry so we had the red curry with chicken. It had just the right amount of spice. Aside from that we had the coconut soup(meh) and the fresh spring rolls. He had tofu, I had shrimp. Service is great. They are attentive and detailed and the food came out pretty fast. So, I wouldn’t go for a date, but a quick ‘Netflix and Chill’ dinner. And get the curry.

This is my favorite place to eat close to campus! I love Thai food in general and Madam Mam’s is the best on The Drag — and a bang for your buck! Their portions are always very large, enough for two or even three meals, and the taste is better than places like Thai How Are You or the Thai food truck behind the Co-Op. I’ve always gotten their spiciest soup there — it comes with rice sticks and a ton of meat in a sweet and spicy broth. Recently I tried their pineapple fried rice, which is huge and filled with chicken, Chinese sausage, cashews and a variety of other additions that all go together very well. It may be a little heavy on the white pepper, but still delicious. The food comes out relatively fast, even when it’s very busy, and I always appreciate that as well. A great place to choose when you’re on campus and craving Thai!

Our group was getting a bit tired, we were on UT campus, decided walking was better than drving thru Austin traffic yet again. Menu is large, simple was better for us tonite, so Chicken Fried Rice split by two folks and NS1 beef noodles. Lots of students, we are on the Drag. Seated quickly, waiter arrived promptly. Nothing fancy about décor or furnishings, but serviceable. Chicken Fried Rice was very large, easily enough for two in our group. NS1 beef noodles could have also fed two. Both dishes around $ 9. The rice dish was tasty, fresh off and hot. So simple was better. Noodle dish beef broth had a good flavor, beef portions maybe a bit out of porportion to the amount of the noodles. This place has a large menu so not sure if we picked the best, the less worthy or just middle of the road dishes Guess you have to go back a couple of times. What we had was fine, no problem recommending our sampled dishes to others.

I am pretty surprised I’ve never written a review for Madam Mam’s. As I reflect on my life and think about all the mistakes I’ve made, all the people I“ve hurt, all the skittles dropped on the floor, one thing comes to mind. Bacon. Madam Mam’s was an Austin staple for me when I went there and is now a must-visit whenever I visit my brother. I don’t believe I’ve ever tried a menu item I’ve disliked. The NS14, though. That’s my baby girl. This spicy soup, with ground pork, sliced pork, fish balls, and an assortment of loose leaf vegetables gives me endless joy and pain, all at the same time. BDSM of the food world. I crave this soup when I’m without it. I yearn for its intestine burn. Like claw marks all over your back, the burn as it comes out lets you know at least you’re doing it. Madam Mam’s. Always stay the same. A capitalistic restaurant hidden behind a guise of a family owned restaurant. Keep Austin Weird and hypocritical and gentrified, but not too gentrified. You’ll lose the original flavor you are trying to recreate while you destroy

The location is just extremely close to the UT campus. Easily accessed by students and anyone who may work close by. First downside to this place is that there isn’t really a parking lot for this location. There is street parking around in West Campus, but nothing that is free during the day. The interior has lots of tables. Most of them seat around 2 – 4 people. Most of the tables are built into the floor so you can’t really combine them. Sometimes when they only have the two-person tables you can sit next to each other with a party of two, but there is a awkward distance between you guys. At other times, if you only have a party of two, it could be awkward to have another party sit super close to you. Décor is pretty normal. The interior isn’t really fancy or anything. The bathrooms are okay. Nothing amazing, but isn’t filthy or disgusting. The service is pretty friendly. No complaints in this arena. The food is pretty awesome. Especially love the Pad Kee-Mao, Pad-See-Ew, and the Bankrupt Noodles. The curry is pretty good too. It’s just that sometimes there isn’t that much rice, so you could end up with too much curry(I guess you can take it to go?). The portions here are pretty large. I’m usually pretty stuffed when I leave. All in all, a great place close to UT campus. If you can’t think of anywhere else to go around here, I’d default to this place.

Wow I got 3 meals out of my entre. This place was very delicious and satisfying. I went around 3pm and it was pretty packed. The servers were quick and very nice. Their prices are kind of on the high end but in my opinion, its worth it because of the portion size! Chicken beef and pork are the same price and shrimp is about 2 dollars more. The location is perfect for UT students. It is on Guad and Dean Keeton. I definitely recommend this place when you’re craving thai food. They have noodles, soups, and curry! Its great for lunch or dinner.

When I first arrived at UT a year ago, I had heard people say Madam Mam’s was the place to go for Thai food near UT. I never got around to trying it, and I finally did for the first time today. Now, it wasn’t horrible, and maybe doesn’t deserve only two stars, but it definitely fell short of my high expectations, and I probably won’t be back. The environment made me feel like I was still standing outside on the Drag… as in it was nasty and the paint was peeling and overall not appealing. My friend and I were probably only the fourth or fifth group, so I expected good service. It wasn’t terrible, but it felt like the waitress was rushing us when we ordered, and she wasn’t very friendly. I got the Chicken Pad Thai, a very basic dish. The portions, as everyone has said, are huge, but honestly a little underwhelming. I felt like the flavor was very one dimensional, and providing me with so much just made me bored, not grateful. Meanwhile, my friend ordered a green curry(not sure which one), and wow. They gave her a generous amount of curry, but just one tiny scoop of rice. They charge $ 2 for extra rice, so she just took the leftover to-go; she can make her own rice.(It wasn’t even special… just basic Asian restaurant white rice.) Overall, for the cost, although portions are nice, the food wasn’t. If you give me a mountain of not good food, it doesn’t make me any happier. We didn’t run into any issues regarding tipping like others seem to have, but that’s because we tipped and left. Not sure if there are any really good places for Thai near campus; I think Thai How Are You food tasted better than this, but portions were smaller and prices were steeper.

PROS: Cheap, large portions CONS: Not as good as I remembered When I was a wee undergrad here, many(many) years ago, Madam Mam’s was THE place for all my Asian food cravings. It was also the first Thai place that I’ve been to, literally, and I was in love with the Pad See Ew and Massaman Curry. However, after experiencing Thai cuisine from different establishments across the nation and returning here many years later, I’ve discovered that Madam Mam’s is really just OK, though their portion sizes are as enormous as I remembered. The flavor development and complexity simply isn’t there.

I ordered the pad kee mao, it was okay. I was expecting better since it WAS voted best asian restaurant in 2013(haha). There were barely any pieces of chicken in it, so I was eating nothing but noodles. My other friend ordered the lad na and it came in a really big bowl. The dish had so much gravy in it, it was soupy. The lad na didn’t have much flavor to it either. My other friend ordered the tom yum soup and it didn’t look like a regular tom yum soup you would order. It was a clear broth and had a shit load of mushrooms in it. she didn’t like it at all. she said it was really sour. Madam Mam’s didn’t live up to the hype that a lot of Austin natives told us about. Maybe we didn’t order the right thing? I dont know. but I don’t think I’ll come back if I’m in town.

As much as I love this place for a quick Thai food fix, service always sucks. My water is never refilled unless I ask. Also, one of the worst customer service experiences I have ever gone through was at this place. I came here with my boyfriend once and ordered a Pad Thai with beansprouts on the side(I do not like beansprouts ok). The Pad Thai came out with beansprouts mixed into the food. I very politely told the waitress that I had asked for the beansprouts to be on the side. She went to go talk to who I assume was the manager and when she returned, she told me that if I wanted the beansprouts put on the side, I’d have to pay for another order of Pad Thai. Let me just paraphrase what the waitress said, for emphasis: «Sorry I screwed up 2 bad so sad.» This is when the boyfriend decided to fight for what is right in this world. We ended up getting the beansprouts on the side after some argument, but they probably spit in the food as they were making it.

Madam Mam’s is a good place. For college students without a car, it’s the closest to a quality dining experience on the Drag, and the food is great. I love how it closes later than most other restaurants in the area as well. I was initially drawn in by their Garee(yellow) Curry. If you’re new to the cuisine and not sure what to get, this is a great starter. I’m a big fan of curry, both Indian and Thai, and the Garee Curry inspired me to make my own at home. And no, Madam Mam’s isn’t losing my monetary contribution because of it. I still get that craving for their(beef) Pad Thai and(beef) Pad Sea-Ew. For $ 8.50, you’ll get an excellent portion that leave you pretty darn full. I do admit that the sweetness and thickness of the Pad Thai makes me tired of the taste after a while, but I still come back for them. The Pad Sea-Ew is consistently good from beginning to end, with the meat and veggies hitting expectations. I really just swap between the two dishes, and even sometimes get that Garee Curry for old time’s sake. Madam Mam’s isn’t the best Thai restaurant in Austin, but it’s a commodity the Drag should never lose.

My love for Thai food slowly developed here at this Madam Ma’ms. From freshman year all the way until I transferred I would go to Madam Ma’ms many times a month. On a busy day it’ll be hard for you to find a table but just wait about 10 – 15 minutes and a table will probably open up(college kids usually have places to be). I don’t recommend coming to this location if you’re driving here to eat in, since this location is along the drag and near a college campus street parking is limited. If you are here to just pick up a meal then there is a UT garage a few streets behind the drag that offers free parking for up to 30 minutes. Now on to the food: Madam rolls: REALLYGOOD, fried to a golden crisp then paired with a sweet tangy chilli sauce. Pad See Eww: honestly one of the best pad see eww’s I’ve ever had plus the portion is HUGE. I usually go for a level 2 spicy then add in some chilli oil. Lard Naa: Flat noodles with thick gravy sauce(yum). Curry: honestly all of their curries are really flavorful, on rare days when I’m not craving flat noodles I’ll venture to one of the curries. Service: all of the waiter’s I’ve had are really nice, if you’re ordering togo walk straight up to the counter, if you’re dinning in wait at the entrance and they’ll seat you! They have chilli sauces for you dishes on a counter top near the entrance, it’s self serve so if you want chilli grab some yourself! Even if you go on a busy day, your food usually comes out fast, their pretty efficient on taking orders and serving tables. A MUST go to if you’re in the area :)

Absolutely love the pad see ew with fried tofu! I would also recommend the pad Thai. You can get different levels of spiciness and for most of the noodle dishes you have several options of meats. Their flavors are very authentic. The portions are extremely large so it’s definitely worth your money. This location is close to campus which makes it so convenient for students! Finding parking is a little difficult though. Their service is okay. Sometimes when it’s super busy, it’s hard to get the waiter’s attention. I’ve never had to wait for a table which is nice.
