The food is pretty good, but the service is terrible and food is way too EXPENSIVE. You sit down and wait for ten minutes before seeing a waiter. Then you hardly ever see your waiter and you have to wait another ten minutes if you order a drink. I don’t think they have enough wait staff. I tried to stop by to get queso to go the other day and there was one person handling to go orders. They made people wait until other orders were filled, telling people to have a seat until they finished to assist the next person. Cant wait for new Mexican food restaurant to open at the old Tres Amigos location to put Lupe on notice. Lupe used to have the best food and service when it started in Houston. I think they have tried to grow to fast and their quality has suffered. They have made up for it by raising the prices.

Not sure why there are so many low reviews for this place. When you come here, you get the Fajitas, there is just no other option. I will say, they are a tad expensive but that would be my only downside. My gf and I ordered the server for 1 to share and it was plenty of food for both of us. Especially if you start off with the chips, salsa, and beans. While the steak is amazing here, there tortillas deserve a lot of credit. You can always tell when a place makes homemade tortillas. They just taste a thousand times better then anywhere else that doesn’t. We came in on a late Saturday afternoon and the place was pretty crowded but no wait for a table. My only bad note was that there was a very weird smell inside of the restaurant. You seem to get used to it after a while but when you first walked in, it was very noticible.

Absolutely the WORST mexican food we have ever had as well as the worst waitstaff we have ever seen, and this was during a time when they were dead. It was our first experience and we will never go back. Hope things get better for them, but we would not recommend this place to anyone who cares about decent food and at least half decent waitstaff. AND they had the audacity to charge way too much for food we barely touched because it was so bad. What a waste of money.

I will have to say that this Lupe Tortilla location was fantastic. My mom has Celiac and their GM, Ron, went out of his way to make sure that there was no cross contamination of any kind. Their beef fajitas were delicious and the homemade corn tortillas are out of this world good. I’d recommend Lupe Tortilla in Westlake if you’re looking for great Tex-Mex.

I’m writing this critical review mainly in protest for the poor servers, kitchen & bar staff that work here. Lupe’s is very corporate and seem to take themselves a bit too seriously. The staff moral seem to suffer for it and in turn patrons service. Let me explain, first their not allowed to use water/ice tea pitchers and for a family of sweet tea guzzlers like mine, it was a a job in itself keeping up with that. Second they have to do table side guac. I get that Lupe’s wants to be table crafty but these poor guys never looked happy doing it and I get it. It was time consuming and other tables constantly needed refills as well as table guac of their own. Bet the servers are glad they don’t have to whip up queso as well. I read a few other reviews had witnessed scolding of the staff from management and although I didn’t witness staff quit, I can certainly tell it’s not a fun environment to work in. That being said, it’s obvious allot of $ went into the décor and the portions are as large as they are expensive. Couldnt find an appetizer under 10 bucks even in hh. Ive mostly gone with big groups(we had fajitas, chx enchiladas) but have gone solo a few times. Food quality, quantity, & variety all aren’t bad. Think glorified Trudies but not as fun and your not likely to meet anyone interesting at the bar like you would at local spots. Keep in mind Lupe’s is TEXMEX and I feel there are much better authentic mom n pop options in the southwest area and not as expensive. Good luck staffers. Yal really earn your money there in such a corporate setting.

Lupe Tortilla is delicious, and let’s be real, it holds a lot of fantastic memories for me. I remember this time like it was precisely 1 year and 2 months ago. A table full of marketing department peeps, myself, and the most delicious queso that wasn’t from Taco Deli or Kerbey Lane! We’re all enjoying a large tower of fajitas, and my boss finds a lone bell pepper. He gets excited because there are really not any vegetables with the fajitas, and without thinking, he eats the entire slice. Now, he doesn’t do spicy food well, so when his face told us that he had just eaten a half of some kind of hot pepper, we couldn’t help but laugh! The waiter was so kind as to bring him 2 glasses of milk to cool the burn! So, first word to the wise — Those are not bell peppers. Second word to the wise — Tell them you’re new! They’ll bring out adorable fajita mini sliders so you can taste how delicious their fajita beef is! Final word to the wise — Ordering fajitas is a little confusing. They don’t just do affordable fajitas for one, which is what I found out when I went with just the fam. You’re going to be paying around $ 18+ for a helping of meat with a tablespoon of sauteed onions on the side, guacamole, huge tortillas, a huge mound of cheddar cheese, and lettuce. No vegetables. So, if you’re like me and are used to onions, bell peppers, maybe some tomato, and mushrooms with your sizzling fajita meat, this is not the place for you. If you love well seasoned, lime marinated 100% american beef fajitas with a huge helping of barbeque on the side or maybe a lobster tail, this is the place for you! ***Service: 10⁄10!*** Very knowledgeable and helpful servers! I LOVE the thoughtfulness of marketing genius behind those free fajita sliders(again, just ask about how the fajitas works and say this is your first time!) ***Food: 10⁄10!*** Very nice flavors on everything I’ve tried here! ***Price: 7/10*** I feel like I can get more fajita bang for my buck, elsewhere, but this is still a fun location for groups!

Kinda surprised to see most people giving such low ratings… I used to live in San Antonio and these sorts of restaurants are everywhere, literally could name 10 off the top of my head within a 5 mile radius of my last apartment. This place way surpassed all of those chain Tex-Mexs for me(except Alamo Café, because how can you beat their queso and tortillas ??) for more than one reason. The service was great, we were seated quickly, chips and salsa(plus beans) and our drinks were put on the table within 5 mins. It did get rather busy during our time there but we were not neglected at all. I’ve been here tons of times since and it’s still been pretty good.

I took my son to lunch on Saturday and we sat at the bar to watch the game and enjoy our lunch. Not long after we sat down a manager began scolding and shaming a staff member. Everyone and the bar turned to look as the manager continued to yell and scream. Not long after that she began yelling to the kitchen that they cannot serve raw food, that it was unacceptable and, even though I agree, her shaming the staff was stressful for me and many of the patrons. I realized later that the bartender that was waiting on us was the one who was originally dressdown and she was so ashamed and distraught that she packed her stuff and left. I closed out my bill and as I was leaving I asked one of the waiters who the manager was and he said that it was the managing director of the restaurant. I have never been more disappointed in a dining experience that I was on that day. If this manager continues her behavior, I fully expect this restaurant to shut down within the year. I have been going to Lupe tortillas in Houston since early 2000 and was very excited to have them move to Austin Texas but I will not return to this location anytime soon.

On a recent visit to Austin, my friend, who has lived in the city for a few years, suggested we try some of the Tex Mex cuisine that is a popular staple in Austin. She suggested her favorite Tex Mex restaurant, Lupe Tortilla. We met her for lunch on a Saturday afternoon and the restaurant was fairly busy. The five of us were seated at a long table in the back, and with the patio windows open and all the sunshine streaming in, the restaurant made for a fun, uplifting atmosphere. The four of us trusted her with ordering for the table and boy, did it end up being a treat! We enjoyed the Fajitas Grandioso, a combination of lime pepper marinated beef and chicken fajitas and bacon wrapper pepper shrimp. We also ordered a side of the spicy chipotle smoked ribs. Everything was well seasoned, ingredients were fresh, delicious, and plenty. My favorite? Using the rib meat to make a fajita. It was my first-ever rib fajita and it did not disappoint – it was fantastic! Definitely a fan of this place and its awesome food!

Best Mexican food in Austin! Papa’s is a close second. Fajitas are the best in Texas. Prices are high but the quality is un-beat.

Best. Beef. Fajitas. EVER! The beef was super tender and perfectly marinated. The burrito-sized flour tortillas were so light and fluffy. Very much enjoyed the street corn as well although I think it would be better served off the cob. Please oh please open up in LA… you’d make a killing!

Oh Lupe… shame on you. Perhaps it is wrong to have a Jameson shot in a Mexican Food restaurant. Well at least you make it feel wrong. $ 7.75 for a Jameson shot during Happy Hour no less. Let’s do the math. A 500ml bottle runs $ 36 at Specs. You can get 17 shots plus 1 ounce out of that. That would bring your cost to $ 2.11 a serving. Your markup of $ 5.64 a serving is frankly absurd. Actually shame on me for not asking before I asked for one. Albeit, I can generally find Jameson for $ 6.50 in most places, $ 5.50 even a few times at local low key establishments, but I don’t ever recall being hit up for $ 7.75 a 267% markup. I guess you need to have a markup like that in order to afford the complimentary charro beans you provide with your chips and salsa.

When it’s National Margarita day, you better get your butt to a Mexican restaurant stat and that’s what we did last Sunday. After church, we drove just down the road to Lupe Tortilla. We had 9 people so it took a little bit for a table to get set up and ready with a server even though they weren’t super busy but it wasn’t a huge deal. I asked the server shortly after we were seated about any specials for National Margarita day and he said he didn’t have a good reason as to why they didn’t have any. Bummer. While perusing the menu I noticed everything was pretty pricy($ 12+ range). A friend and I split the make your own meal with 2 enchiladas and a tamale. When our food arrived, it seemed like everything was smothered in cheese — not a bad thing but just a fact. I got the shredded beef enchilada, my friend had the ground beef enchilada and we split the tamale. I gave her the beans because gross and I had the rice. The shredded beef enchilada had a lot of flavor but the tamale wasn’t anything to write home about. It was dense and not very flavorful. I’m not sure I’d go back because of the prices but it was a good place to celebrate one of the nation’s greatest holidays.

Surprisingly good chain food. It’s not quite Tex-Mex like you know. They’ve got that on the menu, but the star of the show here is their grill. Two of us had variations of fajitas(Fajita Tacos Al Carbon and the Carne Asada) and both of us raved about the steak — well seasoned, higher than average quality, and cooked to a perfect temperature. Also rampant compliments at our table about the queso and the corn tortillas. If there was any weakness, the salsa has a consistency more like pico de gallo than the typical salsa. And special kudos to our waiter, David, who was helpful and knew the menu exceptionally well. Definitely keeping this open as a dining option.

Wow– Taste! Flavor! Fajitas! This is possibly the only place that I have eaten steak that I liked. I hate steak, I really do… but Lupe’s steak fajitas has really changed my taste buds! Delicious steak AND hand made tortillas. That is really all you need to enjoy a meal here– some meat and tortilla– which means those two items are pretty damn tasty. When the chef heard that this was our first visit to Lupe’s, he sent over a sampler of the steak fajitas– AHHHHHH and what an experience. So thankful for that sample because otherwise I would never have ordered steak anything. I would stick with the margaritas– the mojitos were pretty sugary. Chips and salsa were standard, but the salsa had a kick. Good parking lot, but inside does get busy after 6pm.

FAJITAS. FAJITAS. STEAKFAJITAS. Always friendly staff, the best steak fajitas I have had at a restaurant, and some damn good margaritas on top of that. Lupe Tortilla is one of my go-tos for eating out. For roughly $ 25 with tax, 2 people get an enormous serving of fajitas, chips, beans and rice! Fresh warm tortillas come with every order and you can load those bad boys up. If you are or become as big a fan as I am, get a rewards card! Saves you some money with your frequent spending!

I came here with a friend the other night and had a really great time. We each had a Mexican martini(okay, two…) and they were delicious, though not served in a shaker. I had a combo plate with a beef tamale, cheese enchilada and beef taco with black beans. Paul had chicken smothered with shrimp and Monterrey jack cheese. The food was pretty good. It didn’t blow me away, but I definitely was not dissatisfied. The black beans were some of the best I’ve had in a while. The bartenders were super friendly and I didn’t feel neglected at any point. They serve charro beans along with their salsa? I didn’t know what to do with that. It’s kind of like how Gloria’s serves that black bean dip, except it wasn’t a dip. It was just… charro beans. They were good though! Just a bit strange. Anywho, this is near my work so I’ll probably throw it into the Tex-Mex lunch rotation.

My favorite Mexican restaurant in the area. There is indoor and outdoor seating and also a large bar area where you can sit as well. They bar is pretty cool – it has a huge tiki roof inside the middle of the restaurant. It gives a very festive feel. If you’re looking for a REAL margarita – it’s here. I like my margaritas on the rocks and with salt. At Lupe Tortilla, the bartender uses real limes. When the drink is delivered, it is served in a large margarita glass filled with ice and then a glass server that holds this delicious margarita with fresh squeezed lime. It fills up the glass about 1 ½ times so it’s really a nice amount. They have happy hour so the margaritas are a good value too during that time. The frozen margaritas are from a machine, however, I have tasted my husband’s frozen margarita and its actually good – not that crazy sweet stuff that too many mexican restaurants serve. This is the second time we’ve ordered the Frijole Dip. It’s this super appetizer that can be shared by two or four – depending on your appetite. It has beans, ground beef, queso, homemade creamy guacamole and topped sour cream. Holy cow, it’s my favorite appetizer. If I was in a room by myself where no one was watching, I would happily eat it all by myself. I’m not one to venture into any kind of steak tortilla dish at a mexican restaurant because it always has that texture of eating shoe leather through a tortilla. However, my husband ordered the steak tortilla for me while I was too busy talking and didn’t have enough time to order(the first time the waitress had to come back a couple of times because our table was quite lively – the waitress was fabulous, by the way). The food was served super fast and WOW! It was so good! I really don’t know what in the world they do to that steak but it is so tender! Then, it’s like they use some sort of reduction sauce to add additional flavor to it! I was blown away with how good it was! The tortillas were freshly made and oh so good! All of the veggies that came with it were cooked perfectly, too. We’ve gone back now a couple of times and have brought family with us. Yep, this is going to become part of our regular spots!

What do I expect when walking into Lupe’s? Friendly but not completely hospitable service. This is a chain restaurant, not a mom and pop restaurant. Good food. A wait(sometimes long, sometimes short). And to leave like I ate at a buffet and it was my last meal. I have been satisfied EVERY time I’ve been. About the service, everyone has been friendly and never rude. But as I said, it’s a bigger restaurant so you shouldn’t expect the level of service you would get eating at your mom’s house. As far as the food, I feel that it’s always quality food. I have always been satisfied with how everything from the chips to the fajitas taste. In regards to the food, I think my only complaint thus far has been the quantity. It’s so much that I waddle out like a pregnant mother in the third trimester. In fat(not a typo), last time I split a 3 item combo and still felt gargantuan when I left. Fajitas are good. Tacos are good. Enchiladas are good. Just eat. The price seems a bit high but you get the quantity in return. Definitely worth a try.
