Little Munchkins Learning Center

Little Munchkins is absolutely wonderful… it doesn’t get any better than this when it comes to childcare. When I bring my daughter here each morning, it feels like I am leaving her with family. The owners, teachers, and entire staff are caring, ethical, and dedicated. The director also runs a really tight ship. nothing gets past her! (regarding parents, kids, AND teachers). The Lord’s love is present at Little Munchkins.

I love this place. The staff and owners took care of my daughter after school and during the summers from the time she was in Kinder till we moved her when she was going to 5^th. I wish we could have brought them with us to Gtown. Best daycare and after school care! And my daughters math was already done when she got home so a bonus for me. She always received help when she struggled. They are always happy to see every child.

We had just moved to Austin from TN last May. As a seventh year teacher, I have very high expectations for daycares and I won’t accept any less. I am also one of those annoying parents that is constantly on top of my kid and want to know everything about her day and what she is doing. I visited almost every daycare/​preschool in North Central Austin because I wasn’t moving until I had a daycare picked out. Little Munchkins was my first stop and then after visiting the others, I came running right back. This school is AMAZING!
On my initial visit, they answered my questions, gave me a tour, and interacted with my daughter (2 at the time). Then the first week she cried every morning and became very attached to her teacher who spent her mornings in the 1 yr old room. So for the second week, when I dropped her off and she cried they would let her go sit with her teacher in the one year old room until she felt better. They would also call me and let me know that she was better.
They have cameras, security codes, and the office is «open door» or else someone is at the front desk to greet you so no one gets by without being noticed. I am always greeted with a smile and small conversation.
Fast forward to now, she is in Ms. Cecilia’s 3 yr old room and I couldn’t be happier. In her room she is doing centers, science experiments, singing, reading, and role playing. She can come home and tell me exactly what book she is reading and what science she is working on. This week, they planted a bean and are learning about how it grows. That is an experiment I did with my second graders!
They have several holiday parties in which they take lots of pictures so even though I’m at work, I still get to «enjoy it with her». They had an Easter Egg hunt, a Santa visit, and they even had a Christmas room completely decorated with a fireplace, mountain pictures on the wall, and the complete light up Christmas village.
They offer Dance, Spanish, Soccer, and several other activities (at an extra cost) so that you never have to get up to take your kid to extracurricular activities on Saturday morning again! They also hold school pictures twice a year so that you can order nice pictures of your kids. I believe at 4 they begin taking field trips.
The cost of this school for a 3 yr old is between 700 – 800 which is less than most other places and the quality is worth double that. The school is warm and inviting with the smell of fresh biscuits most mornings. Always decorated with pictures and works of arts from the kids and a shaded playground. They also have a facebook page to keep you updated and send home monthly menus and school calendars. They follow AISD calendar for holidays and breakfast, lunch, and snack are included!

We started going to Little Munchkins Learning Center in 2001, when our boy was 6 months old. Our daughter was born in 2008 and we went back to LMLC. Ed and Brenda provide and environment where excellent care and learning go hand in hand. LMLC is a happy place for kids and parents. If we were to have another child, you can bet we would go back to LMLC.

Just another update, now that my child is over two years old. My observations:
1. The older my child gets (specifically since they were about 18 months), the more impressed I get with Little Munchkins. The teachers are caring and it’s great to see how much my child has learned!
2. Looking back, I realize that even though the care provided to my child when they were 3 months — 18 months was good, and the center was meeting all standards for caregiver: child ratios, there still are A LOT of children. This means that if you are looking for a program where your infant is getting TONS of attention, you may want to look at a smaller center. This is not a detraction from Little Munchkins so much as a heads up about parental preference.
3. The turnover of staff seems very low and I heard that individuals prefer working at Little Munchkins versus some other centers. This ultimately works in favor for a child in care.
4. As mentioned previously, the center in general is large, but it is locally owned, and the management is almost always visible and accessible for questions.
5. I still have an issue with the food. They recently switched directors, so I really wish they would use it as an opportunity to review their menu and develop some new ideas for more nutritious meals that the children will eat still and stay within the center’s budget. I bet they could do it!
Overall, I still give the center four stars.

I couldn’t agree more with the other posts. This place is amazing, but I can’t believe that the government would allow our children to eat honey buns or danishes as part of the healthy breakfast program. I wish they had another food service that would offer some parents the option of getting some organic foods, as well as fresh fruit and vegetables!
My son absolutely loves it here. I always pick him up and he is in a great mood… and he is singing and dancing and playing with the other children. I’m thrilled with his teachers and entire staff at Little Munchkins! Wonderful place!

Thus far I have been 100% happy with this daycare. I believe the staff at Little Munchkins are competent, caring individuals and genuinely love the children. The staff turnover seems very low too, if at all. The playgrounds are wonderful and it is a very family oriented community. This daycare has been in the business for thirty years so they must be doing something right. It is managed by a husband/​wife couple and they are great people.
I agree with what J.M. said about the quality of the food. The food is provided to them by the government at a subsidized cost or free (not sure). The purpose behind it is to make sure they are getting enriched grains. With that said the quality of food is poor and some days they give the children packages of honey buns, a generic version of Lucky Charms and canned fruit/​vegetables. With that said though, the food is provided free charge. Like J.M. I would be willing to pay a little extra for better quality food.
Overall I am very happy with Little Munchkins Learning Center. They are organized and my daughter does seem genuinely happy. They have themes planned out every month and I applaud them for how thorough and detail oriented they are. Little Munchkins offers great value for your money and exceptional quality care for your little one. They certainly have become a second family to us.
