Description

Specialties

Hi, I’m Austin psychologist Lee A. Edwards, PhD. I do psychotherapy with adult individuals, as well as couples counseling. My office is in South Austin, at 71 (Ben White) & Manchaca Rd. Here’s a short intro to what I do; for a fuller description, please go to www.LeeEdwardsTherapy.com.

I have 20 years of experience doing individual therapy and couples therapy /marriage counseling.

I match well with clients who are ready to change their lives in fundamental and lasting ways. My style is warm and informal. I tend to think holistically. I try to listen carefully to the stories people tell, but also to the important, unspoken stories told by their voices and bodies. Much of my training post-PhD has been in intregrative, body-oriented therapies.

With couples, the therapy is usually a combination of focusing on specific issues such as money, sex, etc., and on communication. Sometimes it’s all about communication.

I hope to hear from you, Lee

History

Established in 2001.

BA in philosophy in ’83, PhD in counseling psychology in ’92, licensed as a psychologist in ’94. I served as the director of counseling services at Southwestern University in Georgetown, TX from ’92 ’til ’01, and I started my private practice in Austin in ’01.

My office is part of the Remedy Center for Healing Arts. Also at Remedy are my wife, acupuncturist Claudia Voyles, and mindfulness-based therapist Chris Crosby. We’re loving our relatively new home in South Austin.

Meet the Business Owner

Lee A.

Business Owner

I grew up mostly in Texas and moved to Austin in 1979 to attend UT. After studying pre-everything and pre-seminary, I ended up with a philosophy degree. The purely intellectual approach to finding meaning wasn’t satisfying, so no career in philosophy. After college came some time in Alaska and work in child care and computers. Along the way I played music part-time.

I went back to UT for some psychology courses, then got my M.A. and Ph.D. in counseling psychology at the University of Maryland. My internship was at the UT’s counseling center. I was licensed as a psychologist by the state of Texas in 1994.

After my Ph.D., I worked for nine years as the director of the counseling center at Southwestern University in Georgetown, TX. There I did counseling and did training on issues such as relationships, sexual assault prevention, identity development, and men’s issues. I served as secretary and then president of the Texas University and College Counseling Directors Association.
