Brilliant. When the architect friends of mine, some super fancy pants ones who’ve done houses in the Hamptons to 9,000 sq foot townhouses on Congress tell me this guy is the best, I take note. If I were wanting to build something significant, non-traditional, non-zippy, Paul would be my first choice. He’s as pleasant as they come and as gentle as his last name. His Maya house on the Lake is perhaps the most stunning piece of architecture I’ve seen in Austin. No design cliché’s, whatsoever. The man himself gives no airs of someone so celebrated, even though he’s followed in hushed tones, and shows no attitude when I hurl one stupid question after the other his way. Dick Clark, eat your heart out.
