La Quinta Inn Austin University Area

this place needs to be remodeled big time. this is crap compared to other laquintas. one big problem is the parking lot. as leave o. the side street, your cars undercarriage will be scraped. this location needs to fix this asap.

Sadly, this hotel is the worst La Quinta establishment I’ve stayed at, thus far.
I’ve stayed at over thirty La Quinta locations across America too. I stayed here for three days.
The price was the cheapest after a last minute booked trip, but once I arrived, being right next to the freeway is not good.
Upon checking in, the employee was welcoming, explained the hotel features and policies and provided directions to the room. The hotel offers free wifi, but the internet is unprotected so anyone can join their internet network. To me, that’s unsafe and careless to your customers.
Offer password protected internet service to help keep customers happy.
My room happened to be on the first floor.
You can hear the freeway though, so expect the loud sounds from the freeway noise.
The parking lot there has hills. The pavement is considered uneven in my opinion due to dips in their parking lot.
Those dips also make it unsafe for elderly folks walking through the lot. The bottom of cars can also get scratched from pavement, if one is not careful.
Once I entered the room, I turned on the heater. In turning on the heater, the fire alarm inside the room activated. This was not cool. The room had a weird smell to it.
The walls looked old, the curtains looked old by their color and fadeineas and the door lock jammed a few times. The curtains also did not extend all the way thru the main window to darken the room so privacy was always a concern during my Stay and since I was situated closely to the main entrance.
The walls are thin too so expect to hear people talking outside or in a near by room. This is not the greatest hotel based on what I saw and my opinion, but I can say that the pillows and bed were very comfortable.
I did sleep really well and enjoyed the comfort the bed provided. The sheets were soft and the pillows were relaxing.
I would pay a little more for a newer hotel.
This hotel old, small and needs to be renovated to seek an increased number of customers.
I won’t be returning, unless they invest in renovations.
This hotel is below the La Quinta hotel guest standards in my opinion.
One star for the low last minute price and one star for the comfy bed and pillows.

I wouldn’t even give it one star. First off the room was dirty. We found some sort of pellet, maybe (I’m hoping) from a rabbit. The TV did not work. All the outlets looked like they had started on fire at one point and were so loose non of our plugs stayed plugged in. On the first night one towel had disgusting brown stains. Since a group of us were there for a conference our coworkers room was leaking water from the AC unit and had NO AIR. We were issued two keys of which only ONE WORKED.
There were broken beer bottles in the parking lot for the three nights we were there. Another coworker stated that their door didn’t shut properly and had a wide gap. Another room smelled really bad like mildew.
NOT A LA QUINTA quality that it’s supposed to be. NEVER STAYING THERE AGAIN!
I’d rather sleep in my vehicle.

Is it possible to give less than one star?
This is THE WORST hotel I have ever had the pleasure of staying at.
To start: it’s run down, the rooms are dirty. The walls are made of paper and you can hear every car from I-​35 passing by.
I suffered a week here due to a business trip.
Day one: my shower changes from scalding hot to freezing cold every 30 seconds, I ask the front desk if this is normal and the gentlemen working said I was using the shower incorrectly… it’s a lever that goes up, down, left, right… I think I can figure out how to use it. I think a toddler can figure out how to use it. But I second guess myself thinking it’s user error.
The AC has been set at 65 for 8 hours, it’s still 75 degrees in my room.
Day two: shower again… same issue. At this point I’m starting to loose it, not only am I sweating in my room, I can’t find a decent temperature to shower the sweat off my body. I go to call the front desk to see what they can do and my phone doesn’t work., turns out, the cord was cut… so much for safety. So I stroll down to the front desk to see what can be done… they offer to change my room, great! I pack up my weeks worth of luggage and grocery and head to my new room… the door doesn’t open. I take all my stuff to back to my sweaty room and head back to the front desk only to find a sign that says «assisting another guest, we will be back shortly»…so I wait, I wait 10 minutes… still no one. Having a business dinner to be at, I leave a note stating that I can’t change rooms at this time.
I come home from my business dinner and speak to lady that is now at the front desk. She informs me she has been filled in on the issue and my new room is ready for me. Now that I’ve packed and unpacked my belongings 3 times in two days, I ask for a luggage cart or assistance in moving my belongings… no luggage cart. What kind of hotel doesn’t have a luggage cart? Oh yea, a dingy motel converted into a La Quinta.
Day three: I suffer… and sweat.
Day four: enjoying my ever changing shower temps while I hear my room door slam… I quickly hop out of the shower naked and wrap in a towel to find housekeeping attempting to get in my room. The kind lady states that this room should be empty and I inform her that clearly it is not and I have 3 more days on my stay.
It’s now 93 degrees in Austin, still can’t get my room below the high 70s so I move my bed closer to the AC… bad idea, under the beds had not been cleaned in ages. Dust an inch deep, old food, candy wrappers, hair, just gross… I beg my company to change hotels but they already paid the $ 100+ a night to put me up here. Just 3 more days… I can do it, or so I think…
Day five: still suffering.
Day six: tomorrow I check out and I couldn’t be happier. The staff here is less than accommodating. No manners, no interest in making something right for their guest… it’s an absolute embarrassment to the La Quinta brand. I was fortunate enough to get my company to take this hotel off their list of preferred hotels in the Austin Area… unfortunately I had to be the one suffering in order for them to make that decision.
Shame shame shame. I think the Motel 6 down the block for half price would be like living in the lap of luxury compared to this place.

We were traveling with my elderly mother and my young daughter for a medical procedure. We wanted to be close to the hospital in the area so chose La Quinta over the other moderate priced motels because of its reputation. Big error.
We checked in at 6 o’clock and were placed on the extension side of the building behind the Mexican restaurant.
There were two young men at the end of the motel that watched me for a while while walking in and out of the vehicles, and later approached me to ask if they could use my phone.
The bathroom was horribly dirty and the tub did not drain. You had to stand in the water while taking your shower.
The deadbolt on our door did not work, which was discouraging with the young men walking around the parking lot asking to borrow phones.
Of the 4 lamps in the room, 2 did not work, even with new bulbs and appeared to be shorted out at the cord.
You will want to wear shoes while you are in your room. The carpet is so dirty the bottom of your feet will be black from walking on it. It is really disgusting.
We called at 6:30 to report the problems and ask to be moved to a different room. We were told that they were booked to capacity and there was not a room to move us to, but there were still people checking in and being assigned rooms into the evening.
Do not stay here. Not worth the price. Go to one of the other motels in the area.

If I could give this «hotel» O stars I would. Their website makes this place seem really nice. As soon as I pulled into the parking lot I knew I’d been had. I should have cancelled right then and there before the cancellation period but I was in a bind because my business trip was the same weekend as x-​games and some yearly biker gang meet up. So the hotels in this area were extremely limited. Had I known then what I know now I would have settled for a Motel 6, Motel 8 or even a park bench.
The first week was ehh but towards the end of my stay I noticed I kept being bit by something. I’ve also noticed roaches roaming around the parking lot and even in the main office. I also killed one that came in through my bathtub drain.
I politely went to speak to the manager about my concerns. I tried to show him the bites but he must have went blind all of a sudden. Im covered in tattoos so it’s very hard to see. I also showed him a picture of a huge roach that was in their lobby his respone was «um ok»
I’ve stayed in so many hotels the last few years. Any good company and good manager would immediately offer some type of resolution. But this «manager» flat out told me «I don’t know what you want me to do? I mean, I guess we can give you another room» my thought was «you guess?» I told him I didn’t feel comfortable staying on the premises. He immediately got defensive and said «well, I cannot refund you because you paid through Expedia» I wasn’t asking for a refund. I would have gladly paid for the nights I stayed in. I just wanted to check out early, not pay for the rest of my stay (which was 5 days left out of 12) and find a decent CLEAN room.
In all honesty, it’s really not about the money. At the very least a sincere apology and good customer service goes a REALLY long way.
I will be checking out and losin $ 870. Yeah, it’s worth me losing that money so that I can sleep peaceful.
I RECOMMEND AVOIDING THIS PLACE AT ALL COST!!! Unless every single park bench is being occupied.
LA QUINTA IS LA GHETTO.

Worst hotel ever. We will definitely not be going back. The staff was terrible. The rooms were not ready when we got there. We got to the rooms finally to find cleaning equipment still there. The floors were so dirty we couldn’t walk barefoot because the bottom of our feet turned black. The carpet was also damp. The towels were torn and the bathroom didn’t flush. To top all of this when we tried to file a complaint with the company no one even bothered to get back to us. Do not go here.

Needed a cheap hotel that was under $ 200, which was dang impossible thanks to UT Austin graduation weekend. This hotel was cheap but very run down.
Location — close to UT and I-​30, easy to access.
Safety — I wouldn’t stay here if you’re a single female. Nope, don’t do it.
Breakfast — sad looking fruit and wrapped goodies. Skip.
Room — Small but clean. Beds were comfortable. Shower and bathroom super tiny.
Don’t do it people. Just accept the fact you’re going to have to spend $ 250+ on a mediocre hotel during graduation weekend.
The highlight of this hotel was my cousin snuck her 16 lb cat in and he got his own hotel room for 2 hours while we went out to dinner. Fancy cat.

Worst experience at La Quinta Inn Austin Highland Mall. Rooms were okay-​ish (had the room right above the office). After a long evening at a football game, I came back to the room ready for bed. After pulling out my couch bed, noticed there were no sheets or blankets to be found. Asked for a blanket and sheets for my bed (which werent included in our room with the pull out bed/​couch) and the clerk apologized and said she would get sheets and bring them to my room. 20 minutes later, no sheets. I go downstairs and get the sheets sitting on the counter, and she’s yapping on her pink personal phone. I ask for a blanket and she’s on her computer, and I said «Can I please get a blanket?» And in return got a «bon qui qui style» response of «Uh, no. You can wait. Don’t you see me busy right now? It’s 12:49, I just want to go to sleep. I said «I’d really like to just get one, if you tell me where it is I’ll go get it myself» and she said «Uh, SIR, I said you can wait.» and went back to typing on her computer and gossiping on her phone. I just stood there in shock at her rudeness, and muttered «this is unbelievable» and told her she was completely unprofessional. She called SECURITY on me! I couldn’t help but begin laughing. She took my laughter as rudeness. So here I am, laying on what must be the most uncomfortable mattress in the world, pissed off and afraid she’s going to come up and try to kick me out of my room again. She’s got her friends hanging out in the lobby with her, and they told the security officer that she wasn’t in the wrong, and that I was being RACIST. I didn’t say ONE racist thing! I got her managers card and will be following up, but I do NOT recommend staying here. At. All. I hope La Quinta Inns & Suites terminates this Alendra chick. She’s terrible. DO NOT STAY HERE. EVER. FOR ANY REASON.
But on the bright side, Bön qui qui is real yall, and she works at La Quinta Highlands.

I have stayed here a few times and each time it seems to get worse. There seems to be a new manager every time, and that usually indicates there are problems. This night will be the last.
My reservation was approved for me to us Returns points, however, when I arrived, I was told the room was full price– $ 129.00. My account had been charged the points, but someone screwed up and it did not show up on the reservation. After getting that fixed, I am given a room right under the freeway. I had requested a room away from the freeway, but was told there were no other King rooms available. A quick search online indicated I could still book 3 different types of King rooms with them, so I suspect that this was payback for being upset about the points issue.
I get in the room and attempt to microwave something and discover that the refrigerator and the microwave cannot be plugged in at the same time. Nice.
The Bright Side Breakfast was really a bit on the gloomy side– because they do not have a commercial kitchen, they are not allowed to serve real food any more. The City of Austin shut that down a while back. There was no juice available, no yogurt, the fruit was turning brown, and they only had plain oatmeal.
At checkout, they were unable to print receipts because the printers were out of ink. I needed to spend another night, so I went to another motel.
Any improvements over the years? At least the GM from the Radisson no longer puts dog crap in front of the doors. That has to count for something, right?

Front desk lady was zero help to my situation. She was probably the one that charged my credit card 3 times that set me back over $ 1,000 when I was only suppose to pay for a one night stay for only 190.00 dollars. Horrifying experience. Watch out when you stay here they like to swipe your card when your not looking.

I got my PHONE STOLEN by housekeeping staff here!!! I had left it in the room this morning and drove off; when I remembered I turned back around and got a key from the front desk — as I ran up to the room, housekeeping was there cleaning. I remembered exactly where I put it, and tried to explain to the woman but she spoke Spanish and kept saying it wasn’t there. I knew it was, searched the entire room and double checked my car and purse just in case. I went back downstairs to speak to the front desk clerk, I verbalized that I was worried a staff member took it, she denied, let me call the phone which there was no answer and said there was nothing she could do. I got my sister to locate the phone using the app and it pinned it at the La Quinta where I was. We went back and spoke with the GM, Drew Saldana who was not helpful or understanding with our concern and denied that any staff member would steal. My sister asked if she could visit the area where my room is and she continued trying to locate, heard the noise and located my phone hidden on top of the coke machine!!! Clearly, housekeeping staff stole it and hid it there so that it could not be found on their cart or pockets. Afterwards it got worse. The manager made no apologies and when I went in to speak with him and verbalize my upset he told me to get off his property! As I spoke again he repeated for me to get off the property or he would call the cops! When I left then he went to my friends car who was there supporting when all this happened and yelled at him about being upset that I walked in there! I am absolutely shocked and disgusted at the behavior and morals of the staff members. To have the GM cover for staff that he knew stole is absolutely absurd. NEVER give a dime to these thieves!

Internet didn’t work – I called the front desk and they gave me some BS about me having to call a 1 – 800 numer to get help, so I did that, was on hold for 20 minutes and never got through to anybody. Turns out it wasn’t my computer (like I knew it wasn’t), it was La Quinta’s wireless router that wasn’t working. After calling the front desk 5 times and going to the lobby, the next morning the internet worked.
The room was kinda dirty, I especially noticed filth where the wall meets the floor – all around the room. The tub was a little gross too.
The «breakfast» was PITIFUL. EVERYTHING was prepackaged and cold – bagels, waffles, muffins, everything.

Old building. Room has peeling paint and mold in and out of the bathroom. We were situated right next to the laundry/​maintenance room and the employees are extremely loud in the mornings. Not coming back.

The room was nowhere near adequately clean (smudges on light fixtures and light switches) and the plumbing was loud (could hear the water running through the pipes in the next room). The free wifi was very slow (it took forever to just check email).

Front desk was very friendly, room was very clean w/​new bed spread, lots of chairs, free HBO and cable, free breakfast and wi-​fi! It’s not the newest La Quinta I’ve ever stayed in, but it’s just fine. Can’t hear the highway at all, and it has a Mexican restaurant next door. The bed and pillows are fine. Towels are not luxurious or anything but they get the job done. I would stay here again. The price is cheap and the room is decent enough!

I stayed here after going to a Rugby tournament in Pflugerville. This motel is pretty old. The room was clean. The shower was just OK. The towels were pretty thin, the bed was not very comfortable, but better than sleeping in the car! The pool was… a pool. The best part about this motel is that it is right off of the expressway and the free wifi. I probably wouldn’t stay here again as I prefer hotels (with indoor hallways) instead of motels.

The only complaint I have is that the room smelled like smoke. Otherwise than that, the management was helpful. (See my other review about how I ended up here!)

It’s been a long time since I stayed in an old school hotel where the doors open right on to the breezeway and parking lot, but since I was with a group on a budget, I really didn’t have much of a choice. The hotel has a small pool and it’s clustered around a couple of more upscale 3* hotels. The hotel had some pros and cons which made my stay just OK. Good for the one night I was there, but I wouldn’t have done much more than that.
The pros of the hotel: nice fresh neutral colored paint in the rooms, hot water, good air conditioner, friendly staff, good location, fair sized rooms.
The cons of the hotel: musty room, some freakishly tall bathtub (my head was two inches from the ceiling), dated bathroom fixtures, a toilet that kept running, overly soft mattresses, very limited continental breakfast.
It’s usually hit or miss with a La Quinta. My overall experience wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t great either. The room was OK for a night. There are better and newer La Quinta properties, but this isn’t one of them. Like Haley said, okay, but the bare minimum.

I give the extra star because I like how you can always count on La Quinta to be «not too bad» This one was okay, bare minimum, but it was kinda expensive, I could have saved $ 30 and had the same quality, or spent $ 10 more and stayed in a much nicer hotel.
