I’ve been in Austin for the past year and half and have been bouncing around trying to find my hair person. Andrew Miranda colored and cut my hair and did an exceptional job! I was very happy at the end result. He let me know exactly what we had to do to make sure my color stuck since I’ve been dying my hair blonde for over 5 years. My color looks super rich and my hair feels and looks so much better!

Lawrence Kibodeaux is the best. I was a new platinum blonde in the Austin area, and he does my color better than anyone has ever done it. Been platinum for 15 years, and I will never go to anyone else as long as I live in the Austin area!

I get my hair cut and colored by Lawrence since I moved from Houston to Austin (luckily he did too!) He is fantastic!
I have really thick hair which requires a good bit of layering to keep it from poofing out in a broom/​Christmas tree like fashion at its current length (long bob). Lawrence did a great job! No weird thickness — just smooth and flowing.
He also does my color which is awesomely bright red right now! He is very intuitive with color and will mix up a shade which makes your skin and eyes look amazing. He is also a great stylist! I definitely recommend him!

I just went from long to short hair. Mike Jones gave me the best cut I’ve ever had. I have gotten so many compliments. Mike was very sweet in dealing with my anxiety over such a big change. I will be back as long as Mike is there!

I’ve been seeing Grace Filipowicz for a year now and I love her! She helped me fix my hair from a tragedy from a different salon, and has been maintaining and beautifying it ever since.
I’m pretty picky about my color and style and she knows how to do her job so well. Fantastic with blondes :)

This is really good salon. I came here in pieces with damaged hair that had awful highlights which were the color of baby poop. They’ve been growing out every two weeks since I have naturally dark hair. It was a disaster. I went to 4 different hair stylists in Visible Changes and nobody could fix my hair — they just made it worse .And they would take 3 – 5 hours just to do my highlights. It was awful. So I went to this salon. I was scared to go and I thought that my hair was beyond fixing. Angelica did my hair — she was recommended by the front desk. She did color/​shampoo/​haircut/​blow dry all in 1.5 hours. And results were amazing. I should have come here earlier. It took me years and lots of cash to find a decent hairstylist. Don’t go anywhere else — you will just waste your time and money. Too bad I can’t post before/​after pics in this review. I’ll try to add my photo to this salon — I got gorgeous hair now and already got lots of compliments. Love it love it. I live in OKC, but will drive here to get my hair done. I will not go see anyone else. I paid $ 300, and it was worth every penny.

It doesn’t get any better than this, as far as salons go. Everyone was so friendly. I went in with an out-​of-​control, overgrown lion’s mane and left with a silky, long (but trimmed), clean, light coiffure that I could run my fingers through. Melissa is a top-​notch professional and friendly as could be. She didn’t pressure me to cut my hair short, like a lot of stylists love to do, just because I have long hair. She made some suggestions, asked me questions about how I usually maintain my hair and made sure to make me feel as comfortable as ever. I even got an «out of sight» scalp massage at the shampoo bowl, which made my headache go away. It’s usually traumatic to have my hair cut when I was used to it being so long, but not at this salon. I will definitely go back and look forward to having Melissa work her magic on my head again! Highly recommended salon!

I’ve been going to Michael Zuniga for almost two years now and can’t say enough good things about him. He’s a true artist — taking his time with every detail, and doesn’t settle for anything less than perfection. I’ve been getting balayage for the past year or so and the grow-​out is phenomenal. I only need to come in every 3 months or so (and could, frankly, wait even longer — I get compliments long after the time of the appointment). Michael knows his stuff, and I trust him wholeheartedly as an expert. I know he’d never steer me wrong.
As an added bonus in re: to Jose Luis — the actual salon is beautiful, and leaves you feeling nothing short of fully pampered. The staff at reception is always friendly, accommodating and attentive.

Best salon ever.
Kelly does the most amazing cuts. She is very talented and has taught me more about my hair over the past four years as it has changed for pregnancy to first time mom. She has been heaven sent to me.
Sara is the best at my brows. If waxing could be pain free… she has the gift and the bed side manner I seek out. no messy wax allowed!
Crystal is so amazing at cuts and placements of hair extensions. Hot heads should patent this women’s work. She can blend my extensions so well.
These amazing women and all there staff know what they are doing and know how to bring out the best of you!
Indulge in this salon and you will leave a new women.

Ryan down town is amazing as well. he graciously cut my 2.5 year old’s hair. he looked so cute and super stylish. we got so many compliments. I challenged Ryan with his youngest client ever and he did great, Thank you for being brave enough!

I have been going to Abel for about 3 years and love him. I am African American and have transitioned from a relaxer to natural. This transition is never easy, but Abel has helped me embrace my curls and look. I mainly do color and deep conditioning treatments with him now because the cut and curl management is a hell of a task. I have done best using a combination of devacurl and ouidad products. I think Abel is a lot of fun and I commend him for working with my crazy hair. My hair is super rare for Austin.
Before going natural, I always went in for cut, color and straightening. Abel did a great job. Our routine has just changed so much with the curls. Hands down best color though, I can’t get enough!

I’ve been coming here for 4 years and I always go to kelly. I’ve tried going to other salons before but I always hate how they cut my hair. I’m super super picky in the way they cut it and no one ever does it like kelly

Melissa was such a sweetheart and was so patient in helping me repair a bad cut I had received from a different salon. I have yet to get a color there but look forward to my next visit.

If you’ve got curly hair, do yourself a favor and make an appt with Lawrence on W.6^th. Wow! He really «upped my game» with a cut that’s tres chic and yet requires very little maintenance. The guy knows his way around color, too. On my second visit he gave me perfect highlights. Oh, and did I mention that he’s really fun, too? Enjoy!!!

I came in a desperate attempt to get my hair done before a big interview Monday.
My original stylist is in San Antonio and unfortunately, it was my mistake for not booking earlier with him. I saw JLs new location on South Lamar and went ahead and took a shot.
Here is my review…
First impression, very nice and exclusive looking salon. I was greeted with a mediocre hello but was offered something to drink. I chose red wine. I went with their Senior Stylist Haircut, as it is $ 90 and one level below the Maestro (highest experienced stylist). The receptionist recommended me this stylist when I had first inquired about JLs services over the phone earlier in the morning. The assistant had a bad attitude which you could see on her face when I was seated, then she was smiling the rest of the cut which was very awkward. She washed my hair and did a mediocre job, no water in my ears but definitely didn’t take her time (1 minute at most). The stylist herself was friendly herself however she kept wanting to chat and know what I do for work and even though I changed the subject, she kept asking «Do you want to elaborate more?», even though I had mentioned I prefer a quiet and peaceful haircut. Very nice stylist, HOWEVER… I’m in the process of trying to grow out my hair (men’s style) and I can tell you she did not do a quality job. For $ 90 dollars, I can tell you there was not detail and quality into the cut. It was a half-​ass job and felt embarrassed so tipped her anyways. She just cleaned up my split ends (which she didn’t even bother texturing, instead just clipping straight down) and a some cleaning up. I left a tip just out of respect but felt like I had gotten a haircut at Sport Clips.
I get home and am about to go out tonight with friends and as I try and comb my hair, it is VERY uneven and the texture is VERY poorly done. I have more hair in spots than others. When comparing this haircut to my original stylist in San Antonio who is a Creative Director and only charges $ 78, I regret the decision of not going there.
Long story short, I’m unhappy with my cut and wish I would of just waited a week for my stylist in SA but because of my interview, couldn’t do that.
Put it this way, would I drive an hour and a half for the men’s JL haircut experience? Nope.
Sorry for the bad review, but I expected a better quality men’s haircut for my money, especially by a Senior Stylist.

Since leaving NYC, I’ve been to the best salons in Austin and I have been remarkably disappointed. I tried Michael Jones based on the recommendation of an industry professional (who asked me not to mention her by name) and he is competent and skilled in his craft. I highly recommend him.

I had moved back to Austin a year ago and was searching for a salon to get my hair partially highlighted and trimmed. Mastering my partial highlights can be pretty challenging with the natural color of my hair so I made sure to have the coloration formula from my previous salon in Kentucky. After an unfortunate experience at another salon here in town where the stylist did pretty much the opposite of what I had asked for, Jose Luis came to the rescue! I was lucky enough to get in with Michael, and he was able to fix my hair entirely and make it look amazing! Correcting color is no small feat and he did a wonderful job. He is friendly, talented, and relatively easy to get in with.
The salon itself is clean, spacious, and they offer a wide variety of refreshments while you wait including wine ;-) There’s simply no other choice for me here in ATX!

I am a black girl — a.k.a. African American — a.k.a soul sista — point being I have an afro ok — and today it was a NAP –fro. Anyway, the worst part about being in a new city is finding the right hair salon. I found the Jose Luis Salon on Unilocal,called them up and they told me their stylist Able has repeat clients who are black women — not a bad sign when there are no other listings with a single photo of black person.
Fortunately, Able was true to his name; I am very happy with my trim and flat iron style and I plan to be a repeat customer. Also noteworthy was the salon atmosphere, excellent customer service, and fun retail items!

I have a stylist again! When I moved from the Midwest I was sure that I would never find someone to care for my curls better than I could again. One salon in Texas even used Garnier Fructis for a $ 45 blow out. So sad. Then I found Sarah A. I’m black, my hair is natural with mainly 4a/​4b that shrinks to about 60% and she can still do a flawless blowout on my hair. Weightless and shiny with Oribe and Kerastase.
She carefully detangles, does a scalp massage while conditioning with a warm towel and doesnt keep the blow dryer heat on my hair consistently. She encourages loving your hair and listens to your goals. Frankie is also awesome and did a fantastic color and blow out. No damage. This salon is bomb and worth the money.

I recently moved from Uptown Dallas to Austin and was in dyer need of a new stylist, but like most girls I am very particular. My hair dresser is as important to me as an OBGYN, you may laugh but most of you will agree.
After reading endless reviews and viewing photos of Salons I found myself going back to the Jose Luis Salon listing and decided to set an appointment for Saturday early afternoon with Francheska. Upon arrival I was in awe of the salon, it is just as or even more beautiful in person. The receptionist greeted me instantly and seconds later my hair stylist’s assistant arrived with my wine and provided a tour of the salon.
Francheska’s consultation was on point, she asked me numerous important questions in relevance to the my daily hair routine, it was then I knew I was in definite good hands. Francheska’s personality is probably one of the top I have experienced, she never let the conversation get awkwardly silent and her stories of her early years (even though she looks like she could only be 24) were beyond entertaining. After she was done I was more than happy, she made my hair voluminous and the texture was seriously INCREDIBLE. My boyfriend even loved her work, and we all know how men can be passive about anything girly: P
I will def recommend this salon to anyone, whether you’re just in town visiting or recently moved. You get beyond what you are paying for.
