Jester King Brewery

Cool brewery in Austin. Came here for the limited release strawberry sour beer. Really good sour beer and ample beers to try and taste.
It’s a little difficult to get to as its tucked away in the countryside of Austin, but the drive is definitely worth it for the beer!

I was visiting Austin for the first time and had the pleasure of coming here. It is a bit of a drive but it’s very scenic. The place as a whole is very cool! There’s a tasting room and multiple outside stands with beer taps, a pizza place, and a large barn area to sit in.
BEER: I enjoyed that they had 4oz pour options for beer because I like to try multiple. I also thought it was great that they had wine and other Austin beers that weren’t jester King. Wytchmaker was my favorite beer that I tried by far.
FOOD: The pizza bar had friendly workers and only took 20 minutes. I got a plain pepperoni pizza and my friends got the Penelope (both were great and we had no leftovers). The price of a pizza is about $ 14 but it’s worth it… you can really tell they use quality ingredients.
I can’t find anything wrong with this place. A great place to spend an afternoon with friends or family. Cheers!

Saying that I like going to Jester King would be misleading. I’ve spent 2 of my last 3 birthdays there. Am I fan of all of their beers? Not really, I don’t LOVE sour beers. That said, I do like quite a few. You don’t like sours? Guess what? They have LOTS of other peoples beers! Don’t like beer? They have a lot of ciders! Don’t like those either? They have wine too! You know what else they have? Cornhole! Don’t like fun? Don’t come. :)

This was a super fun place. The atmosphere, the sour beers, the farmhouse pizza, the views, families playing frisbee and football, kids playing in the sand, dogs running in the field. Took a tour with super friendly staff that truly loves what they do. Keep brewing creative funky beers! We will be back!

I was very excited to visit the brewery today. It’s one of my favorite breweries in TX and we were visiting Austin for the weekend so I talked my girlfriend into visiting today. The layout was cool and had tables all over the place. It’s a very rustic/​farm atmosphere and had a lot of land. The bar was small but they moved people in and out. They were super friendly and helpful deciding on what to get. We tried 4 beers and enjoyed 3 of the 4. We didn’t get to try the on-​site pizza restaurant unfortunately. Overall I enjoyed the visit and hope to visit again.

This place was awesome. Neat seating areas, great beer and a very informational tour! I didn’t get the pizza but it looked amazing. The staff was great and the vibe was very Austin. This place is doing some cool stuff.

Jester King had an amazing setting, awesome people and a very TX locale. However, like others have said, I was not prepared for the super sour beer. I tried a farmhouse saisson and it was lemony and very bitter. I applaud the local beer outlook & the tour guide was passionate about building unique beer! If I could redo the visit I would try the kombucha or maybe the wine instead. Cool vibe!

Amazing, world-​class brewery that is well worth the drive outside of Austin to visit. It’s located on a ranch, with Stanley’s Farmhouse Pizza basically attached. There’s a tasting room, a tour available and another beer booth outside. We went on a Saturday evening, and while the beer lines got long at times, it was still a great time. You can get fantastic Jester King beers in tasting pours or fuller sizes, along with other great beers from other breweries. Jester specializes in farmhouse and sour beers but has enough of a selection to satisfy any palate. I enjoyed an Ol Oi, a Commercial Suicide and a 13 pct Russian imperial stout that was fantastic. Sitting outside, enjoying the weather and having a pizza while our friends’ kids ran around in the great open space was a wonderful time. Loved it.

This place is worth the drive out of Central Austin. They definitely have it figured out. From the guys directing traffic to help with parking, to the almost infinite beer selection and great food (pizza). If you can’t find a beer here that you like, then you don’t like beer.
We went for the first time Sunday afternoon, thinking we would grab one beer and leave. But we ended up having 2 beers, a pizza, and garlic knots. Nothing disappointed. And the staff were all friendly and helpful which is always a plus.

I recently came here for my husband’s birthday. As a new momma, I can’t drink, but I still had an Austin-​tastic time! I love everything about this place! Even the man helping us park our car was so friendly. There were great vibes all day and smiles all around!
This is an awesome family-​friendly establishment. There are libations for the parents, and a giant field for children to run through. Never underestimate the power of a giant field!
It seems so far out there when you look at a map, but it’s not a bad drive at all. If you’re looking for a great outdoor spot, make the drive and plan to spend the day in shaded bliss.

Jester King Brewery is a world-​class brewery. As another reviewer put it, it was sensory overload! It has grown into a large venue in the Hill Country, with ample space for group gatherings (including plenty of kids and pups), cornhole, and drinking. There’s indoor and outdoor space, tour opportunities, and multiple points of purchase for beer.
Interestingly, Jester King not only offers its own beer, but other beers from around the country and globe, as well as wines and ciders. There is literally something for everyone.
We were there on a Saturday with gorgeous weather, so the place was packed. Lines to get beer were long, but everyone seemed to be having a wonderful time. Being in the Texas Hill Country was definitely beautiful, and the whole place reminded me more of a country winery than any other brewery I’ve been to… and I mean that in a complimentary way! I loved it out there.
The beer itself made on the premises is innovative, truly craft, and highly rated. It’s some of my husband’s favorite beer in the country (he’s a brewer and really into sours, mind you), so there’s that. And the staff are more than willing to answer a ton of questions about anything you want to know, so feel free to be as big a beer geek as you want!

Well worth the (scenic) drive. Awesome and unique beers, fabulous wines, strong coffee, local kombucha, friendly and knowledgeable staff, beautiful and breezy location (dog and family friendly), and yummy food (Stanley’s Farmhouse Pizza is on-​site and is Jester King’s perfect partner, serving up fresh hot pizza and garlic knots. I recommend the truffle pizza). Jester King is a great way to spend a lovely day. Highly recommend!

It’s a little drive from the city but it was well worth it. We met up with some friends and their kids that live in Austin.
The grounds are huge. The brewery is in one building and there’s another building for Stanley’s Pizza and covered sitting and The Pasture Bar. The Pasture Bar and Stanley don’t serve the beer that is brewed there but they do serve local/​Texas beer.
I recommend showing up early to get good parking and the pizza line will be way shorter. Trust me when I say that the pizza line gets long, quickly.
I would plan on eating there as the pizza is on point and goes perfectly with the beer and atmosphere.
At the brewery you can buy the house Brewer beer. They have a bar inside but also have three tents set up outside on nice days. One tent sells the bottles to go. One sells beer by the glass and the other sells chilled bottles.
I grabbed a 750ml bottle while my friend ordered several pours of different types of brew. The beer is fermented or «sour» beer. If you haven’t had sour beer it’s different from the beer you’re used to. As the name eludes, it’s a little sour and, in my opinion, more fruity than normal beer.
Overall a great time. It’s kid friendly so the whole family can come out.

I’m conflicted about this review… If I was rating atmosphere or setting, Jester King would get a solid 5-​stars. I loved their sprawling property and all the amazing outdoor space. Even if I was rating the staff or business philosophy of Jester King, it would be high. However, I just couldn’t bring myself to love their beer. I’m not a fan of sours, so that definitely influences my opinions. But, of the 3 beers I tried, I could only drink one. I actually left beer behind when we left. WTF?! I never leave beer behind. It was just too tart to enjoy. So, see my dilemma? I suppose I’ll settle on 3-​stars…

Oh Jester King. My husband has been wanting to go here and now that we’re in Austin we made sure that we go here on our first day.
What else can be said other than awesome beer, fantastic grounds, great times and let the beer keep flowing!
This place is family/​kid friendly. A lot of beers to choose from and I definitely dig the farmhouse table beer — Le Petite Prince. It’s so easy to drink!
The whole ambience is just spectacular. Definitely worth the visit (of course most people alreadg know of Jester King, no need yo hype it up) if you’re in town visiting.
Next door is Farmhouse pizza. Get ‘em carbs!

While visiting Texas, I had the opportunity to spend a beautiful Friday night at Jester King’s Brewery. I can truly say this place is one of a kind. Sipping delicious sour beers, next to a warm open fire on the farm was a dream in itself.
The beers were tasty and very unique. At 6PM, they do a tour which I found to be very intriguing. While getting a tour of the place, they explain the processes of how their craft brews are made. Everything from the hops, fruit, and even the local well water is unique. They emphasize that the beer they make reflects the location of where its made. This resonated with me because the crafted beer is a true product of Texas and cannot be replicated anywhere else.
And of course, after consuming a couple of beers you can go enjoy some pizza. I saw alot of families enjoying their time with their children, munching on some pizza & sipping beers. It was refreshing to see the kids laughing & running around the farm and not glued to an Ipad or iPhone. Jester King really creates a feel good environment for everyone in the family to enjoy.
My experience here was nothing short of magical and I wish I lived closer so I could come to this place more often. But I am happy I was able to enjoy my night while it lasted.

Stopped into Jester King on our second brew stop. The grounds and outdoor space was amazing. The brewery was crowded but there was still ample parking and an parking attendant was available to assist.
The taproom was small and poorly handled the volume of customers present. We stood in the line that we thought would lead to the taproom but it was not at all clear to us.
The taproom staff were friendly to us but they seemed focused on moving us out so as to handle their flood of business. Consequently we did not feel welcome to ask questions of their sour beers.
We ordered three beers that were recommended by the taproom staff as good examples of their beers. As sour beers go, these were mediocre. The experience was a bit disappointing and felt very commercialized to me.
Jester King clearly appeals to the masses but I probably won’t go back.

At this point, the wife and I have been lucky enough to make it to Jester King a couple of times when we’ve been visiting Austin. It’s a little out of the way but definitely worth the drive. Our first visit was in November while our last one was in September. I sure did like the cooler weather in November since you are basically outside in a farmhouse setting with little place to escape the heat. Either way, the atmosphere is great with a very peaceful landscape despite the bevy of activity from discerning craft beer drinkers to families with kids playing around.
There is a separate building that offers pizza and salads which is not affiliated with the brewery, but mainly the wife and I are here for the beer. We lucked out on the first visit as they were releasing some funky sour beers, so that was cool. No such luck on the second go around, however we were able to take the free brewery tour. It was very informative and we got to learn about Jester King’s unique approach to beer making. I only wish that they made more beer and therefore they would able to distribute it more. Cheers, we shall return as often as possible.

Jester King is a great place to go and spend a beautiful FALL or SPRING day.
Don’t get mad at your GPS, Jester King really is in the middle of freakin’ no-​where.
When you get there, you will see this beautiful wooden barn-​like space surrounded by green grass and trees.
The seating areas are outdoor, so if you are like me and you are not very into sweating your balls off, don’t go there on a super hot day.
They have ridiculously good beer, seriously anything they make is crazy good. Also, their neighbor sells fancy pizza and wine in case someone in your group is not a beer drinker, so this place is perfect for a nice date or to chill with friends.
They also have a tent with merch and beer to go (bottles).
Definitely a great spot for beer lovers.

Jester King was recommended to me by a friend since I was in Driftwood, which is not too far from here. We came on Sunday around 7:30 to beat the Texas heat and we were able to see the sunset as well. It looked like a painted sky. Jester King Brewery shares a same plot of farm land with Stanley’s Farmhouse Pizza both with there on farm structure but maybe 15 feet from each other. Jester King is known for using wild yeasts in their beers. I did two rounds, with three-​4 ounce tasters each round, 4 Jester King beers and 2 Argus Ciders.
First round I had the Das Wunderkind! — freshly hopped young beer blended with sour barrel-​aged beer, Blended Saison 4.5% ABV; Mad Meg — Dry, unspiced, highly attenuated Provision Ale, Farmhouse Provision Ale 8.8% ABV and Black Metal — Farmhouse Imperial Stout 9.1% ABV. The Das Wunderkind! was a nice sour, not puckering but what seemed like perfect summertime drinking to cool down from the Texas heat. The Mad Meg, did not leave me much to remember but it was a tad sour, and the winner of round 1 has to have been the Black Metal, it was dark, strong, slightly sweet as it rolled down the tongue and to the back of the throat. It tasted like a bourbon barrel aged beer simae to Goose Island’s Bourbon County.
Second round I had the Wytchmaker — earthy, floral rye IPA with tropical fruit notes, Farmhouse Rye IPA 7.6% ABV; a Tepache Especial — sparkling dry pineapple wine, 7.2% ABV and a 2013 Perennial — sparkling cider with Texas apples, aged in okay 6.8% ABV. (Tepache Especial and 2013 Perennial made by Argus Cidery). The Wytchmaker is a great, mildly hoppy definitely with hints of tropical fruits along the lines of guava, papaya, mango.
It’s a beautiful farm with outdoor seating (so make sure you go when it’s not too hot out). If you’re hungry, you can get pizza from their neighbors at Stanley’s Farmhouse Pizza, in the adjacent farmhouse, they do have indoor dining, a bar and water misters hooked up for those hot days.
Great brewery, but not everything’s served in from the tap, some are served from bottles chilled on ice, but it’s still a nice craft brewery different from most other craft breweries, this sort of reminds me of a local Southern California craft Belgian-​style brewery, The Bruery, in Placentia, California in Orange County but with less beers.
