I can’t say enough wonderful things about the staff at It’s About Thyme. They are the absolute best ever! I don’t have a green thumb but badly wanted to get one. Well, they have been so extremely knowledgeable and helpful that I now have an awesome yard full of wonderful fruit trees and plants and a house full of lovely indoor plants. They have a huge selection of trees and plants, including several health promoting plants from different parts of the world that most nurseries do not carry. They are super knowledgeable and I have learned a lot from them. I am into Ayurveda and have picked up several Ayurvedic herbs and other healing plants. I just love this place and can’t stay away even though I don’t have room left in my yard for more plants…:), I tell everyone I know about this nursery and highly recommend it. They are simply the best!

We recently moved to south Austin and one of the first projects was updating the landscaping to better suit our taste. We stumbled upon It’s About Thyme when looking for a nursery and were blown away by the size and selection. Trees, annuals, vines, succulents, vegetables, grasses, you name it, they’ve got it! My favorite section is their tropical tent — gorgeous, flowering plants everywhere.
Plus, even with the large selection, there are easily 5 – 6 people around at any given time to help answer your questions and find the best plant for your situation. Everyone who works there is incredibly helpful and knowledgeable about plants, plus super nice to boot!

I had a wonderful experience interacting with knowledgable, passionate about their plants and trees, patient, friendly, and willing-​to-​help staff, either in person or on the phone. I love being at It’s About Thyme. This nursery staff seems to know what it means to serve customers.

I’ve spent the last several weekends going from nursery to nursery looking for a go-​to place to call my own and most were missing something whether it be variety, helpful staff or pricing. It’s About Thyme has the triple threat. They have a great selection, especially in the herb department. A friendly, present staff– emphasis on the present. I was asked several times if I needed any help and I was often given some tidbits of unsolicited information/​advice on whatever I was eyeing. But it wasn’t the pushy/​annoying style. It’s just coming from people who are happy and love what they do. On top of all that, the pricing was great. It was frequently cheaper than their competitors. I’m happy I’ve found my go-​to nursery.

Best Nursery I’ve been too. Staff is knowledgable, friendly, and really likes to share excitement about gardening.
They had in stock a wide variety of specialty items that you can not find elsewhere. We left with a wide variety of peppers, celery, herbs, vegetables, etc.

They have a large variety of plants, knowledgeable staff and excellent customer service. My first time I went by myself and purchased healthy roses. Later I took my daughter and grand daughters. On weekends they have sales on deferent plants. I highly recommend you go shopping for your fall plants.

Hands down one of the best nurseries in town. If they can deal with my gazillion question and constant calls, then they are pretty damn cool. I’ve recently taken a FREE cooking class there by Sap (Thai chef/​owner) of Sap’s Thai on Westgate. It was extremely informative and helpful. I also took an organic gardening class that helped me with my veggie garden. My plants from there have all done really well. I have plumerias, veggies, house plants, etc. They are my go to nursery in South Austin. I love them!!!

This place is great. I heard about it from a few friends at the community garden, and even though it is a pretty long drive, I’m so happy I decided to check it out. It is COMPLETELY worth the drive.
I came here with a plan to buy a handful of starts for my spring/​summer garden. The prices here are so good, it is kind of astonishing. I purchased 6 packs of peppers and tomatoes for about $ 3.50 each. And you can also buy slightly larger, more mature starts for a couple of bucks.
They also have a lot of beautiful flowers, and I picked up a couple of different varieties. Everything here looked really healthy and well kept.
I asked the guys who worked here a couple of questions while I was shopping, and they were very friendly and helpful. It’s a fun place to shop, with much better selection and pricing then anywhere in town.
A++++ Would shop again.

It’s About Thyme is that rare find of an all local original with a staff that is totally committed to providing knowledgeable, courteous and good humor gardening help!

Last visit they had potted bluebonnets I’ve never ever seen for sale in any nursery — and mine are now happily blooming on my front porch.
Here is an excellent place to buy herbs & veggies that are NEVER GMO plus some heirloom flowering plants to go with them.
Warning: know your budget when you go. ;) it is a seductive place!
Also kids love their decorative large, outdoor toy train to look at — not ride. They have a little village built around it.
Here is also the only chance you may have to be given a homegrown pepper or fresh and sometimes now rare heirloom, fresh tomato to take home for dinner with your receipt,

I’m a huge fan of gardening shops. Moving as far south as the county line, I didn’t even think I’d be without one near by. Thank goodness for these guys! Wonderful selection, the carry ornamentals, edibles, pots, décor, they’ve got it all!
We a fans of their veggies so far. We bought our plants before we were able to set up our seed station. The’ve done really well! I’ve got my first broccoli harvest coming soon.
They also have lectures. Recently it was the tomato expert. He offered his experience and then recommended types that grow well here. Got my seeds ordered right after this, and can’t wait to pick fruit!
I’ve gone by on a typical day and on freezing cold days, and have always found great plants for my growing garden. I recently got 3 Italian Parsleys. I can’t quit eating it! The French Thyme is doing very well also. I also nabbed a Taragon right after they were getting going from their cuttings. Doing very well. Even though the original leaves are dying back, the base is regrowing more plants. Good sign!
We primarily shop here, and I highly recommend it to everyone who has any interest in gardening. (We got our Mission Black olive tree here FYI) You should check out their Mission olive tree near the pay out building. It’s only 5 – 6 years old! Just gorgeous.

This place it just lovely! Good prices, helpful staff and a certain wabi sabi Austin feel that will have me making the journey out to their place again. Next time I won’t hesitate to bring the kids, birds, dirt, plants, trains… what’s not to love!
Meandering through the plants and greenhouses I kept noticing unusual varieties that you just don’t normally find. Pairing that with the sense that these people genuinely care and nurture their plants, I think it’s one of the best nurseries in town.

Fabulous!!! They have so many plants to choose from! My only complaint is there weren’t enough people working there on a Saturday, but that’s pretty much at every nursery. Their selection is amazing. Don’t go if you don’t have proper time to look around. Make sure to say hi to the birds! Super cute, will def be back! Also they are reasonably priced!

Love this place, have been going there for years and years and it hasn’t changed much except for the better — the model train out front, the demonstrations and lectures, good weekend sales («Like» them on Facebook and you will see). The friendly Austin-​hippy-​ish (such a comfort) people there always have good advice and it’s just fun to look around outside, in the greenhouses, and in the little house where they sell pottery and gifts. Always a good selection of antique roses that grow well around here. We recently bought a rough cedar planting box made by a local man. Very nice!

This place is fantastic. The owner and staff are really helplful and it shows. It’s really a gem. There is a big variety of plants, fruit trees, herbs, and vegetables.
AND… they have the coolest electric train set up. It’s really big and is laid out over about a 50×20 foot space. If you have kids (I do) this is a godsend. No more having to hurry to the plant store and pick out plants before my daughter gets hot, bored, or starts complaining. Very cool.

I’ve been coming to It’s About Thyme for several years now. Chris and his staff have turned me into a gardener. They’re great about coaching and helping me avoid pitfalls. Always willing to stop, listen, teach and explain. Great variety of plants (landscaping and garden). The service is excellent. Beautiful grounds (be sure to check out the raised beds back behind the area where the potted trees are) for inspiration! This is a hidden South Austin gem!

I’m happy to have this place near us now that we’ve moved further south (used to be right by the Great Outdoors). I have to admit, sometimes I’m cheap and try to find gardening materials at Lowe’s or Home Depot to complement supplies from It’s About Thyme. They’re not much cheaper though.
I like the selection and the grounds, it’s a fun place to roam around and hang out with their birds or watch their model train. I got some bottlebrush and a Mexican yellow bird of paradise, and I’m quite happy with both in our yard. I won’t fault It’s About Thyme for the fact that they kept the bottlebrush looking slightly more attractive when it was in their custody! The staff is quite friendly, too — More than once they’ve brought in a second opinion to look at pictures on my phone and try to identify the plants I’m looking for. Cool people, cool place.

Love this place. They had many succulents to choose from at low, low, prices. The best, and most beautiful garden ceramics are coming out of Vietnam. Those colorful glazes are worth spending an arm and a leg for. Make sure to donate to their bird rescue in the greenhouse and say ‘hi’ to the birdies! :)

What else do you need?

I love plants, but I don’t know jack about them. The only reason I have a colony of aloe vera is because a co-​worker gave me the hardiest most spawning plant ever.
When we purchased our first home it came with a few plant inhabitants in the form of 3 types of bushes. None of which could I identify. This lead to me having what I call a ‘cousin It bush’ that is out of control. Hence a visit to a nursery with the main goal of what is this thing and please tell me I can give it a massive hair cut (trim it back to half it’s size). I got arrive at the nursery early, and am told by a very nice man that I can in fact go Edward scissor hands on the thing.
Bonus? A nice sized catnip bush, and 4 small kitchen herbs. Net total? $ 15!!! What?! Also the plants while looking overgrown were totally ready to be given new containers, and perked up within hours. I used the empty containers for aloe spawn holders.
Also got to visit the most freaking cute squirrel ever!

I absolutely love this place. From the name, to the variety, to the service and everything else!
Everytime I drop by, I walk away a little less ignorant thanks to the knowledgeable staff. I agree sometimes it may all seem unorganized, but I’ve never walked away from there without someone either telling me they found it, or it’s not in season and to come back, or lastly, they are out of said request.
Nurseries can sometimes be like used car salesmen. They can sell a plant that should have been planted or potted three months ago, the same way you get sucked into buying a lemon that needed a timing belt change four months ago. The mutual factor here is thyme, err, time (lame) — because you won’t know the plant you bought sucked when it turned brown until down the road and you may try to blame yourself first. Did I water it enough? Perhaps too much? Did I plant it too soon? What about sun? The same goes with cars (especially the way I drive).
Well, I haven’t had that problem with It’s About Thyme, yet. And coming from a beginner gardner, that says a lot. Not only does the staff take their time to explain the flowers, plants, herbs, etc… but they make sure you walk away confident and can always call or return for more answers.
List of extras they have:
Dog friendly: I get to take my dog with me and he’s oftentimes off the leash. He loves prancing around the place.
Compost Tea: $ 5 gets you a gallon of some amazing Compost Tea, aka liquid crack for plants. If you can, bring an empty gallon container so they can fill it up for you.
Rescue Birds: Example, Bijou is an African Grey parrot rescued from a house that was on fire. He now resides at It’s About Thyme in one of the greenhouses. I like that a business can help the less fortunate, be they 2 legged, 4 footed or feathery with beaks and two talons.
