They had some giant jackfruit by the front door and we stopped and marveled, never saw these before! They have a good selection of teas and lots of other things, we’ll go back for another visit when we have more time.

This supermarkets small and it stinks because of the seafood in the back or is it just common to have this stench at most asian markets that sell seafood lol. We picked up some snacks here and drinks.

Great Asian supermarket! Staff is very friendly, large selection. Always get my wonton wrappers here. It’s in a shopping center with many other Asian restaurants and stores. It’s like the closest thing to a Chinatown I’ve found in Austin. When I moved here, I asked if there was a Chinatown. I was told, yeah, there’s one right down the street on Bee Caves. I was disappointed to find it’s a restaurant called Chinatown. :/This area, however, is a small glimpse.

This is a Vietnamese Supermarket, not a Hong Kong Supermarket. Every item is in Vietnamese, and every worker communicates Vietnamese. They sell banh mi, but not char shiu. Very disappointing. However, there are Asian snacks available, at a reasonable price.

I came in here for the specific reason of getting a bahn mi from the little booth in the back. But as I waited, I took a look around and was actually pleasantly surprised. I stocked up on my favorite canned curry pastes, mushrooms, and bamboo shoots. I also picked up a vegetable peeler. The smell here is actually far less intrusive to your sinus as mt supermarket and as far as I could tell, selection and price very similar. I will come back here instead of mt when its time to restock on soy, sesame oil, ponzu, garlic chili sauce, fish sauce, etc.

Anytime I can find a Hong Kong Market, in any city, it immediately becomes my go-to. The one in North Austin is no exception. And while this one is considerably smaller than the ones I’ve been to in Houston and New Orleans it still had plenty of items to choose from to meet my shopping list. Prices are comparable to the other markets and location is good for getting in and getting out and back on the road.

I love this location. They always have a pretty good variety of fresh baked goods, as well as a LARGE dessert variety. The only place I’ve found that has Pandan cakes & ube Mochi. Nice selection of fresh seafood & delicious bahn mi Vietnamese sandwiches as well. If you’re looking for hard to find Asian grocery items, this place has everything you’d need and more!

HK Supermarket = 2 stars. Most of the veggies here are not fresh. By that I mean rotting! I found more than enough veggies rotting such as squashes, carrots & wintermelon(what I came for!). Anyways, there is a relatively good selection of meat, BUT the worst thing is arguing with the meat man(the one that doesn’t speak Chinese) the proper meat I am trying to purchase! Try to speak to the Chinese meat man if possible — he will definitely help you out, otherwise forget about getting the meat you want…

We found ourselves inside Hong Kong Supermarket because we were getting Bahn Mi sandwiches from Ng BMT in the back. We ended up doing some unexpected shopping while we were waiting. They had a decent selection of what I call fancy drinks, which was nice. There seemed to be comparative prices on the spices and sauces that we usually keep around our house as well. Steve H does a lot of Thai cooking, so we took this opportunity to stock up on fish sauce for the house. You can never have enough fish sauce and it has become a very important staple in our home. There was also a decent selection of ramen noodles, which we ended up getting some of those too. This store was a bit smaller then some of the Asian supermarkets in the area, but had everything we would normally get. I would absolutely come back here gain.

I liked what I made with the items that I purchased here, and I liked the price I paid for those items. However, this place has some organizational issues that made me wander and have to look up stuff on my phone in order to make sure I was buying the right products. Mostly, I couldn’t find names /prices for the various produce items I was looking at. This place has every legit brand of thai, vietnamese, etc. product you may need for your recipe.

This store rules! Brought my brother here to find certain sauces we can use since his wife finally did something useful with her life and learned to make Phở. I love Asian chicks if you haven’t noticed by my previous reviews. It smells like Pet Smart in here but I don’t care cause the cashier girl here is gorgeous and Asian! I’d give this place a higher rating but this place lacks an old Asian lady to yell at me that I eat to many egg woll… I require this in order to know I’m getting authentic Asian products. Jokes aside I give this place 4 stars.

A pungent smell greets you when you walk in — a sure sign this place is either carrying Vietnamese stuff or owned by Vietnamese folks. Checkmarks for both. They have a wide assortment of Asian ingredients — Vietnamese, Korean, and some Chinese stuff. No Japanese viands though. The prices aren’t bad but some items are overpriced so be sure to ask if they don’t have a sticker price. Between the clean bathroom and the lack of bags to carry your goods out, I give it three stars. This place should be called Vietnamese and Korean Supermarket instead of HK Supermarket…

They have a food box set up inside the market and I have to say they sell one of the BEST banh mi I’ve ever eaten! Try the grilled beef! I def recommend coming here for Vietnamese sandwiches & their cold tofu dessert is to die for!!!

Wanted: Friend who knows what to get at Asian supermarkets so I don’t have to wander the aisles looking like a confused crazy person. Slowly but surely I’m making my way down my pinterest recipes. This one calls for some routine stir fry ingredients and Tamari and in the spirit of adventure, I hoofed it to HKS. What greeted me was a smell so heinous that I actually held my nose in the most discreet way possible. So like, not very discreetly. I was bound and determined to get those things, along with whatever other delicacies I could discover in the world of foreign wonders. Mission accomplished on the grocery list but as for random finds, I just didn’t know where to start. There are all kinds of cool things. It’s like a veritable wonderland of different languages and options. I’m not likely to return to HKS on my own solely because of the miasma of dead rotting whatever but assuming I could go on a culinary tour with an expert, I could be persuaded. The prices are good and they’ve got cool steam baskets, seasonings and fruits that you won’t find elsewhere in the area.

We expected a line at Ramen Tatsu-Ya so we got there at 4:30. Turned out there was no line yet(i guess bc it was a weekday) so we mosied on over to this little spot even though we had just been to MT Supermarket. Still has the typical fishy smell but not too bad. I would actually say some things are easier to find here since the place is not as massive as MT. The place was pretty clean and the veggie section was pretty decent and looked fresh. There was an odd amount of options for a wide assortment of dried mushrooms for anyone who is on a hunt for dried mushrooms. I was looking for one specific Filipino condiment that I forgot to get at MT. I was actually surprised, they did have it, but they only had a couple selections(none of which was the one I like). Still, definitely impressed they had it. For you who like to cook pork belly… This is my fiancé’s best go to when buying pork belly with skin on. It used to be Restaurant Depot but they no longer serve it with skin on. Compared to MT he says it looks more like bacon. And my personal reason for liking this one better — there’s no hair left in the skin(which we’ve had a few instances of this from the ones we bought from MT).

Between this store, Han Yang on Lamar, and MT, I frequent this one the most. It’s not as clean, big or nice as MT, but this one always has everything, in stock and the staff is nice. Han Yang usually doesn’t have everything I need — they have less produce than HK Super market, and they’re stock is random, not always consistent. I find MT to be a little overwhelming due to it’s size. I already have a hard enough time figuring out what some stuff is… I don’t need an entire aisle of one item. I don’t eat meat — so I have no idea how that is here — but it is def stinky. I don’t buy frozen, or any ready made meals — so to the person who claims expired food, I also cannot account for, but that wouldn’t totally surprise me. Plus I don’t go to these stores for ready made meals — its usually to find niche items I can’t find elsewhere — or that Central Market marks up for some unknown reason to me(such as king mushrooms — $ 12/lb at Central Market vs like $ 2/lb at HK) I usually just stick to the produce — which seems fresh to me for the most part — sometimes they’ll have wilting greens — but you just need to pick through it– there is usually a fresh bunch to be found. Giant delicious & fresh king mushrooms always in stock — bean sprouts, beautiful baby bok choy. Then I usually venture over to the canned section where I stock up on Coconut Milk, Young Jackfruit, Some Seasonings, and Canned Thai Currie pastes(they’re so good!) Oh and duh — rice. Anyways– go here if you’re looking for niche items for Asian Cooking.

I like this store — well laid out with plentiful amounts of packaged food that I can’t read. That alone deserves four stars but had to go with 3 for the clean factor… The fish-meat area could be kept a little cleaner in my opinion. But the selections are adequate. Make sure when you walk in to check out the far left side corner, that is where you can purchase plates, chopsticks and all kinds of other kitchen oriented goodies! Produce on far right side offers a great selection as well! Always someone asking if you need help or are looking for anything in particular. Glad this place opened or reopened!
