Hanabi ramen & bento

I came here during Happy Hour. They have a good Happy Hour menu. Also got the fried chicken, which was surprisingly good. Would come here again, but the location is a bit small. I haven’t been here during non-​Happy Hour times so I can’t speak about the experience during those times.

OMG this was delicious! I was visiting from out of town, but I will be back for more.

Came to the New Location this weekend. I was not impressed with the food or the sushi… It must be Korean owned… because the Korean dishes wasn’t bad… But when it came to the «Japanese» food it was typical «American» style! What I mean is Mayonnaise Sriracha sauce type of rolls! There’s not much Authentic about this place! What are you a Korean or Japanese?
The wait staff is way over there head and the chefs! Took us FOREVER to get our food!!!

Hanabi is a really good place to get decent sushi for a decent price. Their new location has a very nice environment but their prices have risen a little. Other than that it’s a great place to enjoy a meal with friends!

The sushi is very fresh and well made. I got the Ahi Tower for appetizer and then a sushi combo for my main meal. I was thinking after tasting the Ahi Tower all mixed together that it might have been better to eat the appetizer without mixing it, because separately the ingredients look amazing, but the flavors become a bit muddled when mixed them all together… However, overall, we had great service and an enjoyable meal!

Up until last Sunday, I’ve always had a great experiences with Hanabi. Their HH is great. The food is fairly priced and the quality of the sushi is good. I’ve always recommended this place to my friends. But last Sunday was H.O.R.R.I.B.L.E. service wise. The food was still good though (thank goodness). We came with a party of 5. We placed our order with our waitress. The food came out but we had no plates or utensils. We asked one of the waiters to bring us some utensils. Our waitress brings it out. But, she didn’t bring out plates… So we waved another waiter down to bring out the plates. They finally brought it out so we could eat our food. All of our food came out except for two appetizers that we ordered. Turns out, she never put them in. I was really upset, cause those two were the main things I ordered out of the group! The manager, David Song, came out and apologized. I would come back as long as she was not our server.
Food wise:
Garlic edamame: Has a smokey garlic taste to it. It’s addicting!
Uni (California): The uni was amazing that night. It tasted so fresh. On top of that, they gave me a little extra. I was very happy with the uni,
Ankimo: (monk fish liver) tasted very good. I usually like ponzu with my ankimo. They gave me a cilantro-​gochujang ponzu which they use for the escolar appetizer. It was pretty good, but I prefer regular ponzu with my ankimo.
Chilli Escolar: has super white tuna, honey thai chili, garlic chip vinaigrette in a cilantro-​gochujang ponzu. This is one of my favorites. It’s buttery with a citrus taste to it. Plus, it’s really cheap. Especially on the HH menu.
foxy lady roll: tuna, escolar, cooked shrimp topped with salmon, avocado, wasabi tobiko and
side of cilantro ponzu sauce. This was pretty good. But it had so much things in the roll that it was overwhelming.
crush on you: shrimp tempura, spicy tuna topped with blackened tuna, honey wasabi,
goat cheese and green onion. This was good. The honey wasabi and goat cheese gave it a different taste.

Fresh, delicious, convenient location. Definitely recommend, but being a sweater as it was a bit chilly inside.

The food here is good, so definitely a sushi place to try if you’re in the Austin area.
The restaurant has plenty of seating, but I do see it getting crowded on weekends.
The sushi is great. I liked the rolls I got and my friend likes the ribeye teriyaki he ordered.

Hanabi is a common place to go for my friends and I. I’ve been here multiple times for lunch, dinner, happy hour, you name it.
For lunch, I don’t enjoy hanabi as much. The bento box deals are great and delicious if you prefer something like donkatsu, however, when I ordered the sushi and roll combo, the raw fish didn’t taste as fresh to me as it does during dinner times. However, I still think they have good lunch deals and I do come back occasionally.
Dinners and Happy hours at hanabi are great especially if you’re with a group after work and want to have a few drinks. A small hot sake, which isn’t as small as you would think, is only $ 3! Love it. The happy hour menu prices for food items are only a little bit cheaper but it’s worth it. Their rolls are delicious, in fact most of the menu is delicious.
One thing I love at hanabi is hwedupbab. This is raw fish with vegetables, rice, and korean spicy sauce. Hanabi is probably one of the best places for this dish. So delicious, big, and fresh. To be honest, I haven’t had anything bad at hanabi, however I did feel like the dinner time sushi tasted more fresh than lunch time sushi, I’ve had an array of rolls and nigiri sushi here. The miso soup is good, ahi soup is good, seaweed salad is same as anywhere else, nonetheless good.
The service is usually pretty good. Hanabi is a great place for reasonably priced sushi and to hang out with your friends.

This place is great! Our party of three started off with the Chili Eacolar, Ahi Tower, and the Miso Sake salmon. The portions are great and plentiful. Not to mention their food presentation is fantastic.
Ask if they have any Hamachi Kama (yellowtail collar). This is the most fatty and juicy part of the fish. After you devoured the cheeks, ask the kitchen to grill the rest of the collar bone for you so you can finish it off. Tasty!
I am a big soba fan so I got myself the Zaru Soba with Shrimp Tempura. Again, the portions are plentiful and I left very satisfied.

Look. I’ll be honest. I don’t want to write this review. The last thing I want to deal with is waiting for a while to get my favorite dishes. But then there is the internal conflict of my own selfish desires and, «well, the wait staff was super nice and the food is always super fresh and delicious so I guess I could give them a shout out.»
*sigh*
I typically order the black widow and spicy zen zen as staples when I visit. The texture is great and they don’t skip on the delicious ingredients. But then when I was browsing the menu to my cold, black heart’s delight what did I see? Sashimi bibimbap. I’m a die hard bibimbap fan. Sashimi bibimbap? What is this sorcery?
So I went back the very next day to taste this and HEAVENS TO MURGATROYD. My life will never be the same again. The ingredients are super fresh and the chojang is a perfect accompaniment. I raved about the chojang and let them know if they sell it I’d buy it, so they gave me a couple small containers to take home.
I ate that dish like it was my job [it was unexpectedly huge]. And it was a delightfully painful experience but I put all my effort into it and #noregrets, I finished that bad boy. Walking out was a real chore, luckily I was close to the door. Ok, I admit it I still ordered a roll of sushi and yes, I finished that, too. Judge away.
No pain. No gain.

One of the best sushi restaurants in Austin! I always get one of their boats (combination). I’ve tried the ume and hanabi. The hanabi is HUGE and will probably feed about 4 – 5 people honestly. Ume is a good size for 3 people :) they’re both a great deal. Ume is $ 80 and hanabi is $ 140.
My favorite appetizer is the agedashi tofu. So good! It’s crispy and has a delicious sauce with it that’s not too salty. The garlic edamame is great too but not my favorite.
I recommend calling in advance and making a reservation! It can get busy during dinner time.

Honestly… this is the best sushi in North Austin along with Uchiko. The prices are great, the bento box will fill you up for the rest of the day, and the fresh fish simply can’t be beat.
The wait staff is always extremely kind and even though there may be a 15 minute wait, that just is because of how popular the restaurant is! Nestled in a shopping center, you really wouldn’t expect this gem, but it is fantastic and I highly recommend it!

This place here is a solid 5 star joint. I have come for lunch several times and find it to be excellent every time. The fish is really fresh and tasty. I tried the Seabass Bento and the Zen Zen roll. Both are exquisite! I tend to get the Bento box because it comes with a lot of things. Sushi rolls, salad, dumpling, fruit… etc. What I like most about this place is the service and the atmosphere. The waiters take good care of you and the manager/​owner walks around checking to make sure the customers are enjoying everything. It just doesnt get better than that. This is just one of those places where you can chill, have good food and feel completely comfortable. Although it is not a big place, there are plenty of tables. I highly recommend sitting at the sushi bar. Getting to see the chef in action makes the dining experience that much better. Enjoy!

Up until this point we had had great experiences with Hanabi, even during busy hours we’ve had no complaints. Last night changed my opinion of the establishment and I was disappointed with our experience, sorry to say Hanabi may not be one of my favorite spots anymore.
We arrived for dinner around 8:30 and took a buzzer while we waited for a spot for two. Not a big deal, we hung around for maybe 15 minutes before something opened up.
We ordered two miso soups, and two rolls each. The soups came out quickly (I would hope), then 30 minutes went by before we got two California Rolls. It took another 20 minutes before I finally get my second roll, but my bf’s was still not ready. His finally showed up another 10 minutes later. At this point it’s almost 9:45pm, and I look around and see that there are a handful of empty tables so I can’t figure out why it took us an hour to get our food.
I’m not going to be a total ball buster so I will be the first to admit that, yes, our food was great, but our waitress never once acknowledged at any point it was taking forever or apologized for the wait. When our bill arrived I gave them the benefit of the doubt and hoped they at the very least comped the one roll we waited an hour for.
Nada.
So when our waitress came back over I explained to her that we were really dissatisfied with the service and we were here much later than we wanted to be because of how long our food took to arrive. She said she would speak to her manager and for the first time ever apologized.
She came back with a new check and a little crème brûlée and said that was on the house. I appreciated the gesture, but we were tired and ready to go home. As far as the check goes, on our $ 46 bill, the manager comped us our miso soups… a whole $ 3.90. I would have much preferred, and thought it more appropriate, if they removed the roll we waited an hour for. Comping an item that was $ 3.90 seemed a little insulting and cheap on their end.
The waitress had also expressed that the wait took so long because they have a new sushi chef. Way to throw your coworkers under the bus. From a manager I would expect that rather than point fingers at the people working for your establishment you would instead help them improve, and when customers are not happy because their experience is clearly is not a positive one, don’t wait for them to bring it to your attention.

Hanabi is interesting — I’ve had some AMAZING sushi experiences here, and I’ve had some sub-​par experiences here.
It puzzles me that they could have so much inconsistency — varying from fresh, clean tasting fish to fishy tasting sushi. I wonder if it has to do with fish delivery schedules. We’ve purchased the «Hanabi» boat several times, and tonight was the first time we were disappointed. Unfortunately, tonight was the night we brought some friends from out of town here and were hoping to take them to a sushi place that wasn’t exorbitant but good. They weren’t super impressed, and I found myself apologizing — never a good scene.
The agedashi tofu is always a winner, there are lots of options for people who don’t like raw fish (or fish in general), and they’re great about reservations.
I’d avoid the seafood gyoza and any rolls with goat cheese/​feta on them — to me, the taste of something naturally pungent on fresh fish is overpowering.
I’m sure I’ll be back to Hanabi some day — but after the experience we had tonight, it might be a while.

Hanabi — Always Fresh, Consistent and Delicious!
After ACL weekend, my friends and I were sick of pizza, tacos and basically anything fried. ENTER Hanabi! I took my friends to Hanabi for lunch before their flight. Visiting from SF, they were a little skeptical about sushi in Austin, but I assured them that I’m taking them to the right place.
When they saw the menu, they were really excited about the food & especially the price of the lunch sets (something they can’t get in SF). The nigiri + sushi lunch sets here are the bomb — they were so impressed with the quality of the fish/​nigiri! We all left happy with our bellies so satisfied.

Delicious happy hour sushi! Always refilling my water. Cute 2 X 4 serving plates. I have ordered hot tea twice and it seems to get cold within 5 minutes.
Happy Hour is 4:30 — 6:30 p.m.
