Hampton Inn & Suites Austin at The University/Capitol

The linens are not made of cotton. Big minus. It is not as comfortable as the crispy cotton bed sheets. Other than that, everything else is ok

So, if anyone knows me, I’m a last minute guy, not necessarily late, but last minute. Queue this vacation that my friend and I book on Friday night, that leaves Saturday morning. YOLO right? We get into Dallas, grab our rental car, eat, drink, and stay at our friends place. Night one, done. Now on our second to last night, we decide to drive down to Austin at 9PM, so why not. We don’t know anyone, so halfway down the drive, we realize we have nowhere to stay. Queue breaking out the Hotel Tonight application, and the lowest price shows the Hampton Inn and Suites Austin at The University. Perfect! We’ve stayed at the Hampton Inn before and it’s close to all the college action!
Hotel Tonight also extends the option that since its 12 a.m., the reservation guarantees for this late night check-​in, and probably a reduced rate. We arrive, the hotel is easy to find and one of the taller buildings in the area. The hotel is very modern, artfully decorated, and centrally located. Victor helped check us in and was very informative of what was going on in the city and what was still open at 1:00 a.m., should we decide to explore. After we park ($ 19, kinda steep, but it costs to park anywhere in the city, at least it was 24-​hours), we head up to our room, which THANK YOU VICTOR, it was a beautiful corner room with a balcony looking over Downtown and the University of Texas on the 8^th (top) floor! Couldn’t have asked for a better room to welcome us to the city.
The room was spacious, it had a fridge for our leftover Dallas BBQ (perfect) and gas station beers. The bathroom was clean, well-​lit, and had pretty good Neutrogena amenities, no complaints!
The bed was big (albeit one, for the two of us), TV was modern, flat, clear, and had plenty of channels to watch. The big plus I mentioned to my friend as well were the dual plugs on both bed-​sides. This is the 21^st century, hotels should know people are on their phones in bed, and a plug right there makes it oh-​so-​sweet! Genius move on the Hampton Inn!
Overall the room was great, and the included breakfast in the morning was a great jump start to the day. All pretty basic stuff, fruit, cereals, eggs, sausage, yogurt, etc. The highlight was the wafflemaker, which until I pulled my waffle, didn’t realize the thing was shaped like the state of Texas… of course.
The location is perfect right next to the University of Texas. The night we arrived, we walked almost all of campus, the stadium, and the state capitol building within a few hours. Another plus is that this hotel is near two Austin B-​Cycle rental machines. This was super useful in getting around town, without paying for parking. I would definitely stay here again! Again props to bed-​side charging plugs and Victor!

Absolutely wonderful stay!!! I was upgraded to a corner suite overlooking the capital which was perfection.
The professional staff went out of their way to be helpful and were very friendly.
This is my new place to stay every time I visit Austin.

The breakfast was wonderful, a changing selection of hot foods with fruit, cereal, oatmeal and all kinds of breads and pastries. The area was kept clean and picked up despite a triplet of boys vying for the Texas-​shaped waffles. We stayed 6 nights. The workout area was complete with free weights, a pulley machine, treadmills and recumbent bicycles.
Staff was friendly, helpful and courteous.
We will definitely stay there when we return.

Love this place. Stay here every time I visit my daughter that attends UT. They are not only reasonable and conveniently located but amazingly honest. After arriving back in New York after a great weekend with my college daughter, I realized I lost a beautiful diamond necklace. I called the Hampton Inn hoping that it turned up. They had not found it however the following day, I received a call that after turning the room upside down and moving the furniture they found it behind the bed. I’m pretty sure that wouldn’t happen in too many places. Next time you are considering a hotel… I highly recommend this place. Reasonable, convenient, hospitable and honest!!!

I stayed here for 3 nights during the Austin Film Festival. I wasn’t sure what to expect from this chain and just wanted something clean and safe. I was pleasantly surprised! The hotel looks as if it’s had a recent remodel. My room was large, quiet and very clean and comfortable! Complimentary breakfast was also nice. The hotel is a little further than walking distance from downtown, but an easy $ 4-​$ 5 über. The day it was raining they had little umbrellas available. Nice staffers! Very good customer service.

Austin is a very hipster/​trendy town, and this hotel also embodies that mindset – it doesn’t feel like all the other generic Hampton Inns and that’s a good thing since this is the nicest location I’ve stayed within the brand.
Conveniently located on the north side of downtown, the hotel was super convenient to all the convention-​related stuff we did over on towards 2^nd St – an Über ride was super reasonable at around $ 5 – 6 and we took our own car if we needed to venture further out of the city.
The room was immaculate, spacious, and had super high walls to make it feel very open and inviting. It also faced the west side of town so we could see the beautiful Texas sunset over the Hill Country horizon.
Staff was super helpful and all met and exceeded our expectations.
Don’t pass on this hotel especially if you find a good deal. Downtown Austin hotels are expensive but you definitely get a great value while staying here.

I’ve been stayed at this property a couple times a week since early spring and really love the place. One week l left a personal item in the room, called a few days later and it was in the lost in found. It was brought to my room when I checked in two weeks later. It was a valuable item and I was very grateful to get it back. The staff is really amazing — all of them. The rooms are spotless, spacious and very quite. It is a lovely small hotel.

Wished they changed breakfast hot items (they did change the meat option: but except for the sausage patties, every other choice: bacon, sausage links were bad). Scrambled Egg was okay. Liked that they had fresh cut fruit.

I was very pleased with the hotel and staff. The hotel is very clean and new-​looking, work-​out room and pool are very nice. Every staff member I encountered was friendly and helpful. Would definitely stay again!

I did a weekend museum trip to Austin. This fine hotel is near the Bob Bullock Museum of Texas History, the Blanton, and the LBJ Library on the UT campus. It’s also practically around the corner from the capital.
I splurged on a suite because I like having a refrigerator and microwave. The room was huge with very high ceilings, nicely appointed, and most importantly to me, clean. During the day, the view was of the pool and the air conditioning units on top of several nearby buildings. But, at night the view of the city lights was spectacular. My windows were kind of perpendicular to the capitol, so I didn’t have a full view, but I could see it if I walked to the window and leaned a little. :)
The (free) breakfast was good. There was a nice selection of hot and cold choices. Everything that was supposed to be hot, was hot. Everything that was supposed to be cold, was cold. I went early, and there was a plentiful supply.
The free wifi worked perfectly. I see no reason to stay anywhere else the next time I’m in Austin.
Four stars because the air conditioner is annoyingly loud. I put on closed captioning because the a.c. drowns out the TV which I kept at a moderate volume so as not to disturb other guests. But, I’ll take a loud a.c. as long as everything else remains top quality. This is a lovely hotel.

Wow! This place exceeded my expectations! Our room was a single king but it was spacious with high ceilings and a great view of the UT campus. The room was very clean, and the bathroom was a good size.
We slept in and missed breakfast because we had plans to go to brunch elsewhere but I hear they have Texas shaped waffles. The lobby/​lounge has a great vibe, too.
We loved this place and will definitely stay here again when we need to spend the night in Austin.

This Hampton Inn rocks! The hotel lobby is stylish and clean. The room is fantastic with a view of the capital building in downtown Austin. The staff at the front desk was friendly and the only drawback I can think of is the parking fee… $ 20 per day for the garage. Fortunately for me, I’m gonna be out of here by 7:00 am and the street parking is free until then (weekends only).

When we arrived we were greeted by super friendly staff.
We were given a suite on the 8^th floor and it was amazing. They said it was the best room and it really was. It over looked Austin towards the capital. Everything was really clean and everyone was super friendly. The front desk even gave us some recommendations of where to eat.
The hotel is on the South edge of the UT campus, but it was really quiet. It’s a fair walk away from the down town area but there are a lot of cool places nearby.

Great hotel and location. Neighborhood is so so but hotel is new clean and they have covered parking albeit for 19 bucks a day. Beds nice outstanding service for a limited service hotel. Gave advice at front desk to guests.

Loved it. Work Had to go to Austin and this is where we stayed. It was a Pleasant surprise. The accommodations were nice, clean, and taken care of.
Pros: Comfy Bed, awesome breakfast, really visually pleasing, and easy going staff. uggh, so simple.
We go to Ontario next (any hotel/​food suggestions?) but I would come back here in a heartbeat.

Hands down with zero hesitation, I can say that I’d want to stay here again. The place is so hip, new, and clean! There’s so much character from the funky cool carpet to the wallpapered walls and artistic light fixtures.
The bed was so comfortable, I LOVED that the duvet cover is washed for each guest (not dirty and reused like other hotels), free complimentary hot breakfast, large rooms, tile floor in bathroom, free wifi, and cute décor all around.
The only downside was that parking cost $ 17 and the pool was TINY. The gym was kind of hot but had a great view of the Capitol and new equipment.
The staff was friendly as well. When I visit austin again, I’ll book this hotel. :)

J planned a surprise in town getaway for us.
When we arrived, a cheery front desk employee named, Jennifer, greeted us. When we told her that our special occasion was a night away from the children, she very happily and generously upgraded our room to include an amazing view of the city.
The room was modern, clean and very comfortable that also included a complimentary buffet in the morning.
We really enjoyed our quick stay here and will definitely be back.
Tip: You need to scan your room key once in the elevator to get anywhere. It took us a minute too long to figure this out as the sign wasn’t glaringly obvious.

We flew in from California for the Austin Marathon and stayed here. What a find! It’s not listed on the official race website, so I wasn’t sure what to expect. It’s incredibly close to the starting line, so if you’re in for the marathon, STAY HERE!
The service was EXCELLENT. They greeted us so warmly from the moment we walked in the door. The room was kept nice and clean. I didn’t have to make one call down to the desk (about a hair dryer that didn’t work, or whatever) – that’s unprecedented. The complimentary breakfast is nice too ;)
We didn’t take one cab while we were in town. We just walked the 10 or so blocks to the downtown area with all the bars and restaurants. The hotel is in a really nice, quiet location. We’d definitely stay here again – marathon or not.
