Habitat Suites

The only reason I am rating this with 4 stars is because I believe there is room for improvement and I’m certain this guys can make this hotel more awesome. The entrance is grant, the place is clean, fast check in (not sure If it was me or the front desk person but I was confuse when she said I could only park on two places and the 2 spots already had cars there). The room was great, and here are a few things that I think need improvement. Hard to find an electric outlet in the bedroom. I had to maneuver behind the stand to plug my phone. New lamps with an electric outlet will make it so much easier, the bathroom was clean but the tile and tub were really slippery, and because the lights are outside the bathroom my wife turned the light off accidentally while I was in the shower, (Not cool) I almost felt. While I was asleep the alarm clock sounded around 1:00 am. I didn’t even think of checking it but I think that’s something they can check next time. The front door was hard to open and had to be pushed a few times and the bathroom nob was falling off. With all that said, they get more points for the breakfast. Best Oatmeal I’ve tasted, fresh fruit, cinnamon, honey, it was awesome, then we order the breakfast options and it was GREAT. Even the salsa was spicy enough for my liking, too bad I did not get any meat in it. If they had like fresh sausage or turkey bacon or something it would have been PERFECT. Now their tea was so awesome!!! I WANT SOME AGAIN… Please add some to the rooms and to go above and beyond maybe some of the fruit that’s on the trees! We are thinking on bringing the whole family next time we come to Austin.

Nice, clean, quiet & go green atmosphere! Friendly staff! Yummy complimentary breakfast with healthy, organic, vegetarian options! Furniture & appliances in suites are outdated but still in good condition. Even the sofa bed was comfortable. Good place for couples, friends, or families to stay while vacationing close to the downtown area in Austin.

Staff was nice and friendly. Organic and vegetarian breakfast was delicious, I’m not vegetarian but the veggie patty was filling and pretty close to a sausage patty. Homemade salsa was made right. The hotel isn’t new but in good condition and very clean most importantly. This was a great experience overall for 2 nights. I would stay here again no doubt.

I lived in very central Austin for 15 years, and my husband in south Austin for 7 years, before we married and moved to Bastrop County (about 30 miles away) 5 years ago. We often come to Austin for events/​entertainment, and it’s more comfortable to stay in town than drive an hour back home. Now that we’ve discovered Habitat Suites, we’ll never stay elsewhere unless we have a very specific reason to do so.
IT’S NOT THE RITZ, as another review said, but they don’t pretend to be, nor would one expect that for $ 99/​night. It’s a VERY comfortable place AND QUIET, which, as a somewhat frequent traveler, I find uncommon nowadays. I suspect it used to be an apartment complex, so bedrooms are really big for an inexpensive hotel, and a very comfy living room/​full kitchen combo. The outside landscaping and setting is very attractive and homey/​relaxing. The «guest house» (main building with reception and breakfast room) has been renovated and is VERY nice.
WE LOVE THE SUSTAINABILITY FOCUS, from natural/​organic soaps, etc., to shampoo/​bath dispensers rather than tiny individually packaged shampoo, etc. (my biggest peeve with most hotels), to mostly organic foods (and free range eggs) at the free breakfast.
BREAKFAST — WOW! I would PAY for this breakfast! Not even comparable to other hotel breakfasts. They even have a window where you can order eggs to your preference, including breakfast taco and omelettes. The organic Greek yogurt and refried beans are my favorite.
STAFF IS AWESOME, always polite, helpful, and respectful. Staff at breakfast deliver your personally-​ordered eggs to your table and keep tables cleaned more efficiently than in many restaurants. We have NEVER encountered anyone being pretentious, as was mentioned in one review.
Finally, YOU CANNOT BEAT THE PRICE! Whoever said it’s pricey for what it is does NOT know current hotel prices in Austin!
CONS:
The lighted sign on the street has been unlit for at least several weeks, which makes it hard to spot from the street (since it’s set back a ways) and also looks kind of tacky.
The neighborhood does look a bit sketchy, but if you know Austin, you know it’s in the process of major renovation, focused in part around the abandoned mall having just converted to a highly praised campus for the growing Austin Community College. And not any more dangerous than downtown!
The pillows SUCK. Flatter than a pancake.
Oh, and as a morning tea drinker, I wish they’d provide options other than Lipton! Which totally does not fit into the rest of the REALLY EXCELLENT breakfast options.

I spent a few days debating whether or not I should give this place four stars, but in the end I chose three because I’m not sure if I will return. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and if you are looking for a unique experience, this is a reasonably priced hotel in the Austin area. Keep in mind it is north of town and not that close to the attractions, but it’s not so far that it’s an inconvenience.
PROS:
The breakfast was wonderful. I enjoyed the variety of food and it was as described on the website. The breakfast staff was very friendly! I loved seeing their smiling faces.
The rooms are as described on the website. Yes, it is an older property, and yes, the furniture is a bit old, but it is in NO way dirty. Everything was clean and well maintained.
They have a saltwater pool, and it was very refreshing. It’s a bit small, but the area around the pool is beautiful and they have lots of very comfortable seating.
I very much appreciated the shampoo and soap dispensers in the shower/​tub. It’s convenient and I wish all hotels would have dispensers like they have at Habitat Suites.
The coffee in the rooms was great! Much better than other hotels.
The beds were fine and I loved the fact that we had lots of pillows.
We only went to happy hour one night. It was okay. Free beer & wine is always good :)
CONS:
If you are older, physically disabled, or a large person, you may want to rethink staying on the 2^nd floor. The steps are steep, and the wood that holds the stairs together is falling apart. I would try to grab on to the railing, and it was swaying back and forth. When I got upstairs, the wood by the room was moving, which made me extremely uncomfortable. It’s not sturdy, and it definitely needs to be addressed. I would not consider staying here again on the 2^nd floor unless and until they fix it. Very dangerous, in my opinion.
The front desk staff was a bit pretentious when we checked in. They were friendly, but a bit stuffy for my taste, and I felt they were staring at us and silently judging us when we walked by. I love people who have manners, but this place is in no way a five star fancy hotel, so there is no need to act like we’re at the Ritz. We’re definitely NOT. Not even close. Thankfully, the man who checked us out was not as pretentious, but was very friendly and relaxed. He fit in better with the environment than the man and two women who checked us in.
Since the property is a bit older, there are a few minor annoyances with the plumbing. The toilet was hard to flush and the shower knobs were difficult to maneuver. Also, the soap dispenser by the bathroom sink was not working well. I’m all for «green» products, but sometimes the packaging fails to work and that was a bit of an annoyance. Next time I would bring my own soap, I think.
It’s a decent place if you need a suite that has 2 bedrooms, 2 baths, and a living area for all to use, (which we did), but if not I would say go to a regular hotel. The prices are nearly the same as a new hotel.

Stayed here for 4 nights and while I must say that the setup being in a old apartment is cool, that also comes with the old apartment feel. The interior is old but well kept. I would say that the vents and some ceiling issues where water damage happened probably years prior should be fixed.
They offer one of the best «free» breakfasts I have ever had at a motel. They cook fresh eggs, turkey sausage, biscuits and gravy and also have fruits, cereals, and other carb foods. They also offer «free» happy hour every night from 5 – 7 and all guests are allowed 3 drinks and a selection of finger foods from the dining area.
The price is somewhat high with the average night costing me about 125/​night. This is the cheapest I found in the area for a 3 star or higher motel in the area. That being said the area is not dangerous but in a older and poorer area located on the east side of Austin. I would imagine that for the same price range you can find much nicer stays up north around round rock, cedar park if location isn’t an issue.
The Habitat Suites is eco friendly and offers a nice stay if you’re looking for something a bit different.
The also have a nice pool.

This review is two years late, but we actually enjoyed our experience. A little nervous because we normally stay at higher end places, and when we got there it looked desolate and old. It’s also located near an abandoned mall, and a strip club (didn’t appear like one of those ghetto strip clubs, but we didn’t go inside so couldn’t tell you).
Aside from that our experience was pleasantly surprising. They have a breakfast like no other. We’ve been to many places, never seen vegetarian options. Free beer also. Who does that? The beds were clean. No complaints.

No real complaints. Breakfast was good, a lot of variety. Real silverware and cloth napkins!
The hotel room was a little older than I expected. In need of some fresh paint. Bed was comfortable.
Like I said no major issues but by no means fancy.
Everything around was closed or abandoned but on the plus side it was quiet, even with a strip club next door

This place is awesome! Beautiful jem nestled away in the comercial district north of downtown Austin. Breakfast ends at 9 on weekdays!!! We figured that out the hard way. The rooms were well maintained and very clean, and not just physically clean! The entirety of the hotel is to be environmentaly friendly and the clean hotel rooms have many features! I recommend it to everyone!

Super large rooms! The suite is apartment style, with the bedroom separated from the living room and kitchen. Stayed here for a night while in Austin and have no complaints. Cozy, and very reasonable prices (about $ 100 on a Sunday).
Not too far from downtown, so if you have a car you’ll be fine. The guy at the front desk is super nice. Told us about things to do in Austin and gave us a map– super helpful!

This is four stars only because of the weird surroundings, which I understand they can do nothing about. But the hotel itself is a gem.
Location: Honestly, I still don’t know where this Sugars place is, but I didn’t even see it at all. Yes, the location is slightly weird, but if you have your own transportation, it’s not a big deal.
Staff: Very friendly and helpful. Check in was a breeze, and they promptly called me a cab at my request. They also informed me of the social hour when I checked in, which was great for unwinding after a long drive.
Grounds: Green and well maintained. I love the idea of the edible landscape, but I didn’t have the pleasure of partaking on this particular visit. Also, salt water pool.
Amenities: I would not qualify this as the most amenity centered hotel, but it does feature a salt water pool, and a full kitchen. Also, free breakfast and social hour.
Rooms: My room was very clean, and had two pretty good sized tvs. The bed was huge, and I found the mattress very comfortable. You can tell it used to be an old apartment complex, but it makes for a very homey feel. There was a slightly weird smell to my room upon entry, but I stopped noticing it almost immediately after that.
Overall, this place kind of felt like a home away from home! For the price and my travel capabilities, I would definitely stay again.

Great boutique hotel for a family! 2 bedrooms 2 bathrooms and a kitchen!!! Priceline for $ 115

Will not go back. Bed, couch and pillows are uncomfortable. Room was very cold all night, and the heat won’t turn higher than 76. Frozen in the am! Went to steam up the bathroom and get warm, COLD shower! Did not even get slightly warm. :(Breakfast was gross. Only good thing was the room was big, used to be a one bedroom apartment. Hot tub has been cemented over.
Would not ever stay here again.

Very cozy and peaceful place to stay at. It doesn’t feel like we were staying at hotel. It felt like we were staying at our second home.
Very big room — we had two bedrooms, two bathrooms, living room, and full size kitchen. Perfect for family of four.
Breakfast were awesome! We went there every morning before going out to do our actives. Daily breakfast is scrambled eggs, biscuit with gravy, hash potatoes, sausage, and oatmeal. Then they’ll have a special item every day which was French toasts on Tuesday then pancakes on Wednesday, and waffles on Thursday. Today was apple cinnamon roll. It was very good.
My family and I will come back here when we are in town.
Yes, it’s almost in middle of nowhere but that’s good — it was peaceful and had good sleep while staying there.
People that left negative reviews about this about not being updated. To me, it looks good and everything works well. TVs works great. The shower pressure was awesome! Hard pressure. Better than regular hotels.
The staff at this place were very friendly and help you to make sure you’re comfortable.

I really liked this hotel. We stayed for 6 nights so it was nice to have a full kitchen. Also, the prices weren’t bad. We got a 1 bedroom suite. We booked online and it said washer/​dryer but the only one is a room off the lobby. It’s .75 for wash then .75 for drying. Not too bad at least compared to my own apartment complex.
Yes, the location isn’t great as it’s across from a dead mall and right next to a strip joint, that at night you can hear the music from the parking lot. But it’s what you pay for.
The happy hour was nice and max 3 drinks. The happy hour also had hummus and cheese (which I love).
The complimentary breakfast includes vegetarian sausage, bacon, and eggs.
The staff at the front desk, happy hour, and breakfast were all super friendly.
The only downfall is somehow my boyfriend kept getting allergy attacks and I kept getting hives (even after we requested the sheets changed). Not sure what it was. We saw the couch was a little older but other than that, it really shouldn’t have been a big problem.
We’d definitely recommend it and stay there again however.

This place is really fantastic if you’re looking for a cozy, eco-​conscious place to stay. We enjoyed our original stay so much that this has become our default hotel choice when we’re visiting Austin.
Rates are reasonable for either their one or two room suites. They’re not super trendy looking or modern, but the rooms are spacious and very comfortable. A one room family slept our family of 4 very very comfortable with plenty of room for our 2yrs old to stretch his legs. They’ve updated their TVs and couches since our last stay which was nice. Beds were large and cozy.
We stopped in for happy hour and the selection of munchies was nice and healthy and very vegetarian friendly: hummus, salsa, crudités, pita chips, dolmas, olives, etc. they requested a 3 drink limit but offered an assortment of beer and wine in addition to iced tea, lemonade, and coffee. Breakfast was excellent and again they had plenty of vegetarian options. A sample of what they offered was made to order omlettes, oatmeal, potatoes, French toast, turkey sausage, homemade biscuits and gravy, fruit, yogurt and others.
Staff was friendly and helpful throughout the whole experience. I accidentally left a baby sling there after check out and they helped us out in getting it back.
Yes, it is a unique experience. If you want a sterile feel with perfectly manicured grounds and impersonal staff go to a different hotel. But this place has cozy relaxing groups and pro-​conservation. If that works for you, I’d definitely recommend the place.

I really liked staying at this property, which feels more like staying at an apartment than a hotel. The suites are not without their issues… we had to move halfway through our stay, as the HVAC failed in our first location. The front desk handled it well and got us set up in a larger, 2 bedroom 2 bath suite for the remainder of our visit. The toilet in one of the bathrooms in our new digs didn’t flush, but we didn’t need the second bathroom anyway, so no real problem there. The property is obviously a bit in need of some updates, and there is no fitness center, but the great things about this place offset some of these issues for me. On to those.
As I mentioned, the property has an apartment complex feel to it, and is nicely landscaped with lots of trees, bushes and flowers everywhere. It’s lovely, and has a wonderful homey feel. Breakfast is included with the stay, and it’s obvious to me that these people care. Many of the items on the buffet are organic, and they’re being very conscientious about their food choices. I truly appreciate this, as I spend a lot of time on the road and try to eat healthy when I travel. Even the coffee in our room was organic. They also have a manager’s reception every night with complementary wine, beer and healthy snacks. Such a nice touch, which went a long way toward increasing the home-​like feel of the hotel. The staff was unfailingly polite, helpful and friendly.
The dish soap and shampoo in the rooms were clearly eco friendly brands… another fact that made me really happy. It even seemed that the people who stay here were friendlier… perhaps this property attracts like minded folks who share the values of the owners.
If you’re looking for a swanky hotel with high end finishes and fancy amenities, then this place is probably not for you. While the suites are not exactly bare bones, they won’t appeal to those of you who want the very latest in design. Everything was a bit broken in here, but in a comfortable way, in my mind. I value quiet, and I slept well each night of my stay. I’ll most definitely return.

I like this place. I don’t get the whining. Anyone can have a bad stay somewhere but I have 150 room nights every year and I think this place is great. I bought it on Priceline for $ 79. Every Hilton property was over $ 200 this weekend. Ridiculous. This was better than just about every Hampton I’ve ever stayed at. No scented Febreeze here! Great breakfast, free drinks and snacks at night. Cool eco friendly rooms. Organic coffee in your room with a full kitchen. Sure, it’s not downtown. Boo hoo, spend big dollars and get the location you want but don’t whine about it as if it’s got anything to do with this place. The staff was friendly, helpful and responsive. If stay her again.

Not the best quality towels and sheets and I couldn’t get cold water in the sick, but a comfortable one-​day stay and I appreciate their attention to the environment and anti animal testing. Everyone is nice & helpful especially the amazing kitchen staff! A full complimentary breakfast including turkey and veggie sausage options and homemade salsa verde — thank you! Easy access from the highway.
