H&R Block

I’ve never had my taxes done professionally before but went to HR Block since my husband and I had several circumstantial questions and wanted a second opinion. I am still in awe of how kind and helpful Mary Bone was. We were in at 8:45pm right before close and she gave us 10am style service (and then some). We were debating how we should file (separate, married etc). She checked through the options and when she found that we wouldn’t get more of a refund than we had found for ourselves on turbo tax she waived all charges. You never count on any part of filing your taxes to be enjoyable and personable when you are going through the process of defining yourself by a series of numbers. Mary was gracious, funny and warm and let me repeat, waived all charges — after spending 30 minutes of her time reviewing our situation. Thank you, Mary!

FYI this ends with me getting kicked out of HR Block!
I filed with HR block last year on 1÷31÷2013 and never received my return. I phoned the office several times through the summer, looking for my 4k return. They were never able to help, kept referring me to the IRS, and finally an agent told me it was probably confiscated due to past due student loans. Fine.
I decided to file on my own this year, and received a notice via Turbo Tax that my 2012 TAXES WERE NEVER FILED! I called the office again, to inquire and no one could find my file until i spoke with office manager Mary L. Bone. She «discovered» that 2012 was never filed because of a «signature hold». Hold up– I was THERE! I signed everything! She was impatient with me over the phone, telling me to call back or come in tomorrow because she «really had to go» but promised to resolve the matter.
I went in today and found Mary to be totally unprofessional. She apologized for the error, blamed the previous manager and admitted to the staff being incompetent. I asked about a 1^st time home buyer loan that Turbo Tax informed me i should have been paying since 2010. She proceeded to google my question, click around at length, and logged on to a support chat. After what seemed like a half hour of pointless clicking around (it was all i could do to refrain from taking the mouse out of her hand and explain how «the internet» worked).
Finally I just asked for her to please forget it, give me my info and I’d file it myself.
She acted annoyed but printed my info. She was clearly offended that I obviously thought she was incompetent and informed me that they couldnt file it anyway since it was from last year. SO WHAT AM I DOING HERE? I asked for her to please give me my ID and information back and please stop googling stuff, ill handle it myself. She then proceeded to snatch the pile of paperwork away from me and said that NOW i wasnt going to get it for being rude and to leave! I said NO! give me my paperwork!
She put it behind her, told me she wasnt going to help because I never paid for the service and to get out!
I have filed complaints with the district managers office and the BBB.
They never filed my taxes, tried to blame me, and finally kicked me out because I got frustrated and raised my voice.
SOMEONE PLEASE FIRE MARY L BONE!

I was surprised to read the other negative reviews as I had a great experience today. I have used other branches in NC prior to moving here and this one was by far the best. I arrived about 20 min early and chatted it up with the front desk lady. She was funny, engaging and very nice. The rep I worked with Mary Bone who was warm, thorough and humorous. She spent about an hour with me today. My tax return included 2 states so it was a bit more involved than you’re average simple tax return. She explained everything she was doing and I enjoyed working with her. She was very pleasant and I would work with her again.
The location is kinda nestled off the road-​I never noticed it before and I take airport blvd everyday to my job. There wasn’t anyone else in there which could be good or bad I suppose. H&R has increased their prices, fyi. I paid about $ 20 more this year than last year.

They quoted me one price, and I ended up paying 175– more.
Absolutely a rip off. Part time amateurs trying to clock in each taxpayer as quick as possible. Saw errors in my returns and did nothing to try to help. I WILL NEVER GO BACK TO H&R Block.
