Gold’s Gym

Be very careful when you initially sign up to work out at this place. They had all of my information incorrect after I signed up and it has lead to a lot of issues in terms of cancellation.

In the past seven years I’ve lived in Idaho, LA, Houston, Dallas, and now Austin. I’ve been a member of Equinox, Lifetime Fitness, 24 Hour, and a place in The Woodlands called, «The Villa». I’m not too particular. I work out consistently to stay fit, but also to beat traffic and get closer to work. I wasn’t crazy about joining Gold’s, but given the location of my work in Austin, it was the best option. This gym has easily been the worst I’ve been too. The showers are out of order often. Either they don’t work at all, or there is no warm water. The issue can last a day or days. I drive 20 minutes in, and if I can’t shower I’m forced to turn around and head back home. If they don’t post that there’s an issue as I arrive, I workout and find out when I’m heading into the shower. This causes me to be late to work.
The cleanliness is an issue as well. I am not kidding when I report that two weeks ago, while in the shower, I noticed that small piece of trash that was lying on the soap/​shampoo dispenser… was from a condom wrapper. Really grossed me out. If there is a piece of gum on the shower floor today, odds are it will still be there in three days.
The facility itself has the necessary equipment. Most of the time it’s in decent shape when I arrive. The majority of the weights are racked, etc. Like most gyms, there are days you come in and things are in disarray.
Crowd is respectful. Employees are nice enough.

This place has lots of weights and up to dated equipment. That’s not the problem, the problem is with the people. The staff doesn’t care and there are lots of huge ego, bad attitude jerks work out there. It’s sad to see that such a nice gym being run down by idiots.

This particular golds is never too busy. Even between 4−8pm during the week you can usually find whatever machine or Dumbbells you need without a wait. Staff is friendly, and always welcomes you as you enter and says goodbye as you leave.

How to cancel your Gold’s Gym membership:
It’s that easy. However, this is not what the gym would like you to do.

A: You may cancel your membership at the gym or you may mail a certified letter to Gold’s Gym, 4001 Maple Ave, Suite 200, Dallas, TX 75 219
So I got into the gym to cancel. I’m told that I would need to wait 10 – 15 minutes to see a manager. I said I’d prefer not to wait so I asked if there was a form I could complete. The person at the desk (who was super patient throughput my frustration) called the manager, found out it would be more like 15 – 20 minutes. She then said to go to the website mentioned above. You need your tag number (and it must match your last name) and the form takes less than 2 minutes to complete. Remember that you have to cancel 30 days in advance (i.e., they will keep billing you for 30 days) and you’ve already paid a month in advance. So, I cancelled on June 15 and get to keep using the gym until August 20. Sweet!
Overall, this is a nice gym and I haven’t had many frustrations. I just wish they would drop the whole slick salesman pressure when you sign up or cancel.

Again with this gym! Just know they will say anything to get your money. Unless you read it on your contract don’t believe it. Oh then the manager treats you like your the problem. I will say the gym on research is got a great group of people working there and I have no complaints.

For everyone that keeps commenting on that staff– A gym is not a social gathering, it’s a place to go work out. I enjoy working out here– tons of equipment and I’ve always experienced a friendly staff (even when I go at 6am, they’re all very welcoming) it does get busy though usually between the hours 5pm-​9pm… it’s packed. But it’s a great facility and disregard the comments on the staff– if you’re serious about your workout you should care less about the staff. Unless you need a personal trainer and from what I’ve seen– they do care for their clients.

Apparently Gold’s Gym @ Tech Ridge won’t sign you up for a membership unless you buy $ 1200 of personal training… unless you’re already a bodybuilder. Wtf? Soo irritated. Got angry and walked out bc Bryant «didn’t feel comfortable» giving us a membership without the training… because basically we’re fat idiots. After telling him several times that I don’t need a personal trainer to see results… because I’ve worked out plenty on my own and have been going to the amazing Orange Theory Fitness in Round Rock… he kept insisting that I wouldn’t reach my goals without the training. Even though we were already having knowledgeable discussions about nutrition, heart rate training, zones, and equipment… we apparently still weren’t smart enough to know how to use a gym without professional help. «Failing to invest in your health today is investing in illness tomorrow». Seriously? Save your ridiculous shpeel and your judgment. I’m curious about how may ppl leaving reviews about how the staff were fine and that going to the gym is not about staff… area already in shape. This was the worst experience ever.

Standing here right and your staff STILL sucks!!! How hard is it to greet your patrons and say hello? Yall are terrible!!!

This is my favorite Golds in north austin. It’s clean and people tend to wipe the machines down after they use them, which is always nice to see.
I really love their cardio cinema. They offer fairly new movies that people actually want to watch. I’ve come with a friend on a day they played Pitch Perfect and we did cardio for the entire movie because we were so engaged.
I wouldn’t say the staff is overly friendly, but I don’t want people too in my face when I’m working out anyway so I don’t know if that really counts against them.
Overall it’s a nice gym with excellent options and it doesn’t feel too crowded like some of the other locations.
I wish it were open later on weekends though!

Best gym I have been a member with thus far! I love the selection of classes through the week, especially a fan of Vinyasa Yoga on Monday nights. The instructor is amazing, and I always walk away feeling great! A lot of various machines that work all parts of the body, and the pool is great too! My only con is the studio rooms are SO cold, while in my yoga class the other night I couldn’t concentrate because I kept worrying about how cold I was! :(
Overall great experience!

Most reviews target the staff, but I generally go to the gym to work out and not chat with staff. I didn’t hire a trainer either so can’t speak about them (very expensive to have a trainer) Lost weight on my own, yipee, but I digress. This gym is huge and has a lot to offer. Its super clean and well maintained. I love the classes, they have a lot of options. Darlene from RPM is the best and her class is always full (great motivation). They have all the equipment you need to get fit. I like the diversity as well, there is a little bit of everyone, no intimidation from huge buff work out junkies. In a nutshell the gym is clean, enough parking, great classes, great equipment.

IF YOU HATE GOOD CUSTOMER SERVICE THIS IS THE GYM FOR YOU: After reading some of the reviews I cant believe Golds Corporate hasn’t fired the Manager since this is a CORPORATE OWNED GYM. I am new to area and when I say new I mean this is my first week here. I wen’t to the gym to check it out because like a car I would never purchase it without taking a test drive first. The person that showed us the gym was not friendly at all and looked like he had never touched a weight in his life (not very inspirational) He went on to tell me that to get a trial guest past I would have to have a Local ID. I just moved here this week I doubt i’ll have a local ID for a while. Also he told me that if my roommate and I wanted to work out it would be 32 DOLLARS A DAY ! Two days would be more expensive than paying for a whole month it is obvious that they just want to pressure you into getting a membership. I want to go to a gym where I feel the staff is supportive and welcoming. When I went to check out 24 hour fitness they gave me a free 3 day pass no strings attached and were super friendly.

I love this gym, but I HATE the trainer Andrew Lopez. He is a vindictive ass hole. I got a new trainer, because I thought he wasn’t well educated and he lashed out by charging me for sessions when I had stopped going to tech ridge and started working with my new trainer. He also got one of his other trainers there to charge me for a session, once again, while I stopped going to tech ridge and stopped working with him.
He claims that «women turn protien into fat, «which is false. Also, «you have to lose fat first or you’ll grow muscle on top of fat,» also fucking false, and anatomically impossible.
I’ve never hated someone so much.

This is the shining star of all the Gold’s Gyms I’ve visited in Austin. I know this gym gets lousy reviews, but I love it. There are lots of classes, I can always get a treadmill, and they have a smoothie bar. I dig it.

I had a Gold’s Gym membership in another city, and would come here with my traveler’s pass. The staff is not very helpful and at times very rude. There is a specific cardio machine I like to use, and they don’t have it? Wow.
What I dislike is that some people come here to socialize. I won’t be returning.

This is my local gym it’s a good spot and it has lots of weights!!! It’s a gold’s gym so you are going to have a ton of people out there trying to get fit and it’s a real gym so you are going to get a lot of loud noises and dropped weights so you have to be ok with that.
It has a decent pool so you can swim laps in it, a great sauna room that I use every time I go to the gym after my work out to sweat it out some more!!!
For the cardio lovers there is cardio cinema which has all the cardio equipment you would like and you literally just do cardio and watch a movie. I know what you are thinking the movies must suck but they are actually pretty good and recent movies so you can always get a great work out in and watch a good movie.
The upstairs has more cardio equipment so you can oversee the gym and still watch some regular TV.
they have classes here and they just introduced Broga which is yoga more suited for guys. I haven’t taken any classes yet but they seem fun, they have all the standard classes broga, spin, zumba, etc…
They have a great basketball court too that you can get in and try to shoot some hoops.
Also has a kids club so you can drop off the kiddos to get a good work out in and have them watched over.
Overall great gym I love it and I have been coming here for the past year and don’t really seeing myself leaving.
the only bad thing is that it’s the beginning of the year so there are a ton of people but I suppose thats every gym.

Great location for this Golds. Lots of parking vs the location in RR near Burger King and also the burnet Toad location. This gym is located right off the interstate so when you are stuck in traffic, pull over and burn some cals!
Plenty of restaurants and shopping in the area too!

Some of the comments below talk about staff so I will touch on that from my experience. I am a big guy, big as in obese. At my heaviest, I was 383. Now I am almost below 300 for the first time in 14 years. I owe a great deal of gratitude to the staff of this Gold’s.
Above all the rest, Erin (personal trainer) is nothing short of amazing! She really cares for her trainees. If you have ever had mediocre or poor experiences with other trainers, PLEASE go see her. The sessions that I had with her were without a doubt key to my successes. GO SEE ERIN! SHE IS AWESOME!
The other staff members are great too.
I have been to other Gold’s but this one is my home gym, except for the showers, which are always NASTY NASTY NASTY!!! this gym is clean and the members and staff are always down to Earth and helpful when needed.
Besides the filthy grungy showers, the equipment is often times dusty and maintenance requests sometimes takes WEEKS. I learned a little about their process when I was ding-​donging them about the row machine being broken. Their system is terrible, full of too much red tape and too many opportunities for unwelcomed delays, but through it all, the manager (Clint) kept me informed (even called me with updates on two occasions). That’s something you wont find with other gyms.
Also what I love about this gym is the size and ammenities. It has a large pool with a jacuzzi and dry sauna (wish they had a steam room!). And the main floor has tons of equipment but it is not overcrowded.
During peak hours its sometimes hard to get the machine or equipment you a re used to, but if you use many different machines in one workout, like I do, you can always find another machine open until the one you really want is available.
I see the same members day in and day out, it is awesome to see these folks working hard toward their fitness goals. I learn from them. This is my classroom and I am so glad I have a membership to this particular gym.

Gold’s can’t get anything straight! They can’t handle updating your credit card information without totally screwing up your account. I have paid my membership, updated the credit card information. I was charged a late fee (which I was told would not happen). I proactive all the way through the change only to get screwed again from Gold’s. It has been 5 DAYS SINCE I UPDATED MY CARD AND PAID MY MEMBERSHIP AND WHAT DO I GET. A COLLECTIONS LETTER SAYING I AM BEHIND AND SAY I OWE THEM MONEY. Where did the money go that I paid them. In the gym employees pocket!!!
I hate these guys.
I am sure the owner/​s of this gym are total losers. They don’t expect quality and their is no customer service you can trust. How do they stay in business?
Austin, PLEASE BUILD A QUALITY INDOOR POOL THAT INFORCES RULES ON BEHAVIOR, SWIMMING ATTIRE AND LIFE GUARDS so I can get my money’s worth at a quality facility. I feel Gold’s is like swimming in the getto. Only one Gold’s Gym has a nice pool and even it has problems. Geezzz.
