Quality work, sure, but why does it take two weeks to hem a pair of jeans? Small staff of two, I suppose. And It seems this couple values the time of certain customers over others. To me they are neither rude or sincere, they are just there to hem and tailor, but the guy in the fancy suit will definitely get more attentive service than your pedestrian designer jeans.
I don’t need a wedding dress or business suit tailored. I just need a hem job on cotton or wool pants. At this point, I’d rather give my money to Ace Tailors. They have a larger staff and are always willing to offer express/​same day service. They even smile sometimes.

I really liked this place… They fit my wedding dress to a T! The wedding dress was a tad bit of a challenge as I requested them to pull in the hem of the delicate outside layer. That was for about $ 80 — pretty reasonable, I guess. I also encouraged my husband and his groomsmen to get their suits tailored there since they did such a great job on my wedding dress.
I went in several months later to get a few pairs of my jeans hemmed. They charged $ 13 each, which is again average pricing, but I didn’t notice anything special.
Most recently, I went in and asked if they would pull up the v-​line of a simple chiffon/​rayon dress — the v-​line was too deep of a plunge for my taste, and she told me it would cost ~$ 45… the dress only cost no more than $ 20 in the first place. She then told me I should wear a tank top underneath, instead of getting it tailored. To be honest, you would think that I would’ve tried it on with a tank top underneath before driving all the way to the tailor to get it fixed… I was a little disappointed since I had already brought in a considerate amount of business their way. It seemed like I was more of a hassle than a customer at that time.
All in all, Gassane’s is a great tailor, but it seems like they’re getting enough business to turn it away, so I’ll likely look for a more affordable alternative in the future.

I love this place! The prices are a bit high but I have never been unhappy with a tailored item. I’ve had a few items that I kept in my closet in fear that a tailor would ruin the fabric (super tiny pleats, delicate fabric, lace etc.) but Amal tailored them perfectly and you can barely tell where they were taken in. I will never go anywhere else. The staff is very kind and always remember me.

Solid! I read that they were the best, so I dropped off my ABSOLUTE FAVORITE irreplacable jeans for a zipper replacement. They gave me a date and price quote, and I appeared on that date and paid the exact price quoted, no muss, no fuss. I definitely will return in the future when more complex alterations need to be done.

Before relocating to Houston, my husband and I would take everything needing alterations to Gassane’s for fixing up. Consistently superb work at a reasonable price.
Aside from alterations, Gus and his team are also masters in the world of custom suiting. Though not necessarily cheap, the custom shirts they prepare are extremely well-​made and sharp-​looking. Nothing makes my clotheshorse of a husband feel more put together than a nice suit and one of his custom Gassane button-​ups! Gus is incredibly thorough when taking measurements to ensure the most proper and custom fit possible. You just can’t find anything as perfect in a department store!
As if any of the above were not enough to pop in and give them a try, the basic charm of the little shop is worth it alone. It’s like taking a step back in Texas history — we love it!

My wedding dress arrived from China beautiful but with some very unfortunate issues. It was too long, too big in the waist, and perhaps most importantly the top hook just hooked on to the lace. It had no receiver. I figured since the dress was relatively inexpensive I could go higher end on the alterations. Thus I googled what was the best tailor in Austin — Gassane came right up.
And it was true. The store is small but charmingly old school sophisticated. The walls were lined with their triumphs, photographs with local celebrity clientele. George W. Bush and Matthew McConaughey to name a few. I was a bit bewildered when I first came in. It reminded me of the odd mom and pop shops I saw living in Connecticut. Then I met the man who runs the place.
He was warm and effusive with disarming honesty. My now husband had brought in his suit to be tailored. It was a suit his uncle had from his British adventures in the 1970’s. When the owner saw it on him he declared the fit perfect and his honesty was rather refreshing. The pants had to be taken in and up some. It made sense, Uncle V is a good two to three inches taller.
My dress, on the other hand, he would not look at. He told me to return in a few days when his wife would be there. That my dress was too special and that his wife would make it look lovely. When I returned she was there and as charming as her husband. She made the marks quickly and precisely with the chalk. She took my concerns about the collar seriously by installing both a hook receiver and a button snap. The dress that was returned to me was perfect and I was besides myself to have it. Though the price was rather heavy I was happy to pay it.

Sort of a neutral review but just an FYI — Amal (the woman there) no longer creates blouses that are paired with sarees. She can do slight alterations but doesn’t make them, apparently.

Pair of suit pants hemmed to perfection. First experience at Gassane’s ensures that this will not be my last.

Maybe I was just unlucky, but for me, this place was horrible. I had some suit pants hemmed and the both pair looked like they were done by my 10 year old. 4 inch extremely crooked hems are not my gig. The suit jackets did not fit at all when they gave them back. I told them to repair it, but after the second trip back, I will just let them keep the jacket. I am not going to pay for such a poor job. All of this for an extremely high price. Never again.

After my good friend, who also tailored all of my clothing for several years, relocated to Houston I was left scrambling to find a replacement. After all, every gentleman should know a good tailor!
After quickly perusing Unilocal,I decided to give Gassane Tailors a call and lo and behold you guys came through once again! Gus was fantastic. He was spot on with his measurements and advice, and also the absolute embodiment of hospitality. Not only was his initial customer service excellent, but the extremely fast turnaround time and very high quality work were both top notch as well.
Other perks of this place are that it is very easily accessible, and simple to find with ample parking spaces. Also, they have very large fitting rooms which they maintain and clean very well. All in all, not only were my alterations done right, they were done on time. I’ll definitely be back and have definitely found my new «go to» tailor!

H/​T to Alexander «The Fashion Designer» W. from Houston who tipped me off to this place a few years back. These guys have been in Austin a long time and I bring my clothes here because they do quality work and are reasonably priced. I’ve brought in a few pairs of jeans to get hemmed with the original hem, which I think was only 10 or 15 bucks. I also had them taper a pair of suit pants that only cost $ 35 for them to do.
Let’s be honest, the real reason I come is the candy bowl at the cash register. He puts out the real stuff, not lame candy like peppermints. I’ve had Reese’s cups, Kit Kats, Heath. Props!

Gus is great! Friendly and very welcoming group of employees working here.
We came in to get jeans hemmed and they did quality work and completed on time. Additionally I had just picked up my dry cleaning and noticed I just needed a simple stitch on a shirt. Gus offered to fix it on the spot, for free, handed it back and said «Come in anytime this stitch comes undone.».
Also, you feel like you’re walking into the 60s (or is it 70s?) when you come here. I’m really not sure which decade. But it felt like a Werther’s commercial.

This tailor shop is THE BEST in Austin. Not only do they do exceptional work, they have extremely fair prices and ndever take too long. In fact, I went into their shop at 11:00am on a Monday and asked if I could get my 1 shirt tailored by the end of the day, and that I would pay extra. I wanted to take this shirt on a business trip the next morning. The owners wife was going to be doing the tailoring and she told me she would have it done by 12:30pm and that they DO NOT charge extra for rush orders.

I recently brought in a suit (jacket + trousers) to Joseph. I asked him to shorten the jacket sleeves and taper the pant legs (from the thigh down instead of just knee down), and came back 2 weeks later for pickup. At first, I thought that no work was done because there were no visible signs of alterations — after trying on both items, it was clear that this was just the result of fine handiwork.
As a first time «tailee», I felt the prices were kind of high… but Joseph did a really great job of making sure I was satisfied. Jacket sleeves were excellent, and when I felt the pant legs could be brought in even more after my initial try-​on, Joseph quickly took care of it then and there at no extra charge.
I still have a weird feeling that I may have gotten overcharged since I look like a college student… but I’m too happy with the quality to dwell much on that.

Like many who frequent this tailor, my story begins with procrastination and ends with satisfaction.
I was a groomsman for a wedding taking place on August 9^th. In an uncharacteristic fit of responsibility, I had my basic measurements taken and my suit ordered early, whereupon I promptly reverted to form and ignored it until about a week and a half before the wedding. My proportions are a little off, so I needed the jacket sleeves and the pant legs taken in.
I rolled up to this place in a panic with my suit to be altered at 5:56pm on July 30^th. Their closing time is 6pm, but quite reasonably, since nobody else was being irresponsible that day, the store had already closed and the owner was on his way out the door. Actually, make that out of the parking lot — he was in his car pulling out of his spot. When he saw me come roaring in, he immediately shifted into reverse, pulled back in, and reopened the store so I could get measured and scheduled. He was friendly and attentive, and promised that my suit would be ready in a week.
Seven days later on the 7^th I was back, again just before closing time, and my suit was done and perfect, exactly as he’d promised. He made me try it on to double-​check, but it was exactly right. For just over $ 50, I got my suit sleeves and pants just how I needed it. Friendly, timely, and affordable — I know where I’m going the next time I need tailoring that accommodates my own particular brand of life scheduling.

Hmm. Well he did a good job on one item, but the other one not so much.
So here’s the thing, I bought a nice suit back when I was a size 31 waist. I had the pants tailored to fit me snugly to give me that trendy slim look. So that was a huge mistake.
Blah blah blah my button breaks off last summer and I can’t fit in these pants anymore.
I don’t wear these pants for a year, and then I bring it in to Gus because I want to wear them for graduation weekend – my last weekend in Austin before moving away. He undersells me on his ability to expand the pants, saying he’ll give it a shot.
I also bring in this awesome, nonreturnable shirt to have slimmed down. It’s probably a whole size too big for me. He also undersells me on this job.
I have to say the underselling bugged me. Maybe it’s a technique to gauge expectations, or maybe it’s a lack of confidence; either way his underselling did not put me at ease and did not add satisfaction.
I get the pants back and they turn out great – I can fit in them again. And you know what, they still sell the slim look pretty good. It is truly awesome to have my favorite suit pants back despite my enlargened butt.
Unfortunately the shirt is still huge. He just didn’t do a whole lot. I noticed it was a little slimmer, but not nearly enough. And I couldn’t have him fix it – I was leaving town that weekend.
It’s true the shirt’s under-​tailoring could have resulted from a miscommunication about what I really wanted – it can be a little difficult to understand Gus through his heavy accent. Well it’s too late now. Guess I’ll have to take my shirt to another tailor.

Went in with a dress for my fiancé that was for a wedding and the wrong size. Only needed it let out where it could, basically .25 inches because there wasn’t much material. She called and said I would be dropping it off and he said it was ok. He wouldn’t do it without her on site. He wasted my time and was very rude about it. So she had to go back for the same thing.
I asked how much it would cost to do this and again very rude. I finally got him to say under 50 to let out a simple seam next to a zipper. Then when I’m leaving he apologizes for not wanting to discuss prices in front of his staff. Guessing they are making less than minimum wage.
Next day she went in and was charged 85 dollars.
One he lied about price
Two he has terrible ethics and treats his staff poorly
Three extremely rude
Four will not work with you in a rushed situation
I will never support this business again based on him being rude and lying to customers. Go to another shop please!!!
Also oddly enough I will add this. A newly created Unilocal member with zero stats messaged me to tell me I am the one in error here… Suspicious. If you don’t like my review read the good ones and write your own. I stand by my review of a very poor experience.

Done before scheduled pick-​up time? Yes.
Impressed me with an entire side wall dedicated to George W. Bush? For sure.
