Gary’s Overhead Door

Gary saved our weekend!!! Came over at dusk — door was jammed — would not close. Fixed the door and updated the rollers. He was quick, inexpensive, knowledgeable, friendly and willing to educate on maintenance.

Gary is awesome I’ve used him several times before he’s always been on time and never overcharge me and never tried to sell me a bunch of stuff I did not need. If you use anybody else you’re crazy.

I came home last night and my garage door wouldn’t open. After some inspection I realized that one of my springs had broken. I recalled having gotten some great service on my door back in 2006 and conveniently had Gary’s business card on my garage wall (above my opener switch). Out of curiosity I called a few companies for estimates before I called Gary. I was pleased to hear that Gary offered the best price. He was very accommodating and showed up at my house within a couple of hours as promised. As soon as I saw him and Karen I instantly recalled my previous service experience. Gary and Karen make a great team and got to working on the spring repair. They inspected the door to make sure everything was in order and pointed out that one of my hinges was broken. I instantly expected that they would tack to my repair cost but they didn’t! They made the extra repair at NO extra cost! They also walked me through how to ensure my door stayed in good working condition — demonstrating how to lubricate my door — something I should be doing 4 times/​year. I would highly recommend Gary’s Overhead Door to friends and family. They are dependable, quick, and extremely reasonable on price!

The springs on our 10-​year old garage door popped last night, throwing the door off the track. I asked a couple of friends for recommendations on who to call to fix it, and they both independently suggested Gary.
I called at 8:15 this morning and got an appointment for 10am. Gary showed up precisely at 10am, quickly diagnosed the problem, walked me through the work required, and was on his way by 10:35am. He was friendly and professional throughout. It’s clear that he really enjoys his business; it’s not just a job for him.
Gary’s price was very fair… and was in line with what my friends had each said he would charge so I feel comfortable that Gary was not taking advantage of the situation.
Overall, I could not have asked for better service. The way he treats his customers makes it easy to understand why he has been in this business in Austin for 40+ years.

Where do I start? How about the beginning? We had Gary and his better half, Karen, out a couple years ago to fix our ailing double garage door. They were like super heroes; they flew in immediately, restored the door to tip top condition, and were gone in flash. Their price was very fair. The best part was they gave us common sense advice on how to keep the door alive and well ourselves without spending a fortune on unnecessary repairs. He even left a sample of the silicone goo he recommended we use. Did I mention that we felt like they were longtime friends within minutes of meeting them? These folks are warm, feet on the ground, salt of the earth kind of people!
So enter part 2. We recently decided to replace our dear old garage door as it had weathered a few hailstorms as of late. Doing my due diligence, I researched and called the «big guys» in town to get their scoop-​gauge (metal thickness), warranty coverage details, pricing, belt or chain drive openers, and everything in between. Homie don’t play.
Anywho, we had Gary and Karen out to assess and they made some awesome recos. We subjected them to my barrage of questions, and they schooled us even more. Their material is a higher quality 24 gauge, they use much heftier hinges (hence more durable), and their door joints are tongue and groove, not rounded so it doesn’t sound like a screech owl every time it opens/​closes. Also you can replace single panels instead of the whole dang door if you get a little dent or something.
We, of course, decided to go with Gary and Karen because we wanted peace of mind and felt as a family run business, they would make sure the job was done right. Gary said he has been doing garage doors for decades now! They do all the work themselves. Yes, Karen gets in there and gets her hands dirty right alongside Gary and they warranty it themselves so they make sure it’s perfect! Because we completely upgraded the door and the opener, we were happy that we spent only slightly more than the competitors basic door and opener quote.
They came out and installed our new door yesterday and it runs so smoothly that you can barely hear it open and close now — amaaaazing! And it looks so pristine and fancy too. We elected to go with the Kevlar belt drive bc that means essentially less maintenance. Gary did something apparently most installers don’t do-​he created a solid door seal which keeps out the bugs. The seal at the bottom of the door is tubular as compared to the flat thing that was on our previous door, again ensuring a solid seal.
We love everything they did. Once again, they gave us a tutorial on programming keypads, transmitters, cleaning, and do it yourself maintenance to keep it like new. With Gary and Karen, we felt like we got top of the line products and service without paying top prices. Shhh, don’t tell them I said that. From what we’ve seen ourselves, Gary and Karen treat the job like it’s their own house. We can’t ask for better than that!
