Garment Modern + Vintage

Garment is the sister store to MOSS Designer Consignment, one of my favorite places to shop in town. Garment has a mix of highly curated vintage and new, independent designers. One the vintage side, I’ve scored things like a fringed jacket, 20s beaded sweater, and 80s Armani floor length velvet striped number. From the modern portion of the store, my Unearthen crystal pyramid necklace is one of my favorites as is my Finnell wallet. Both are urban with a bit of an edge. When I’m looking for new staples for my closet that are unique but also versatile, Garment is where I go.

I love this place. Beside the gorgeous frocks and jewels, the women that work here are the epitome of customer service. They’re friendly, fashion forward and FABULOUS! Always a wonderful experience when I pop in.

I have to give a shout out to Garment!
I needed a dress for an event at the Blanton and started off my search at Moss. One of the ladies there pointed me to Garment as a solution for my not finding anything there and I am so glad she did!
I was immediately greeted by who I assume is the owner and another woman. I explained that I had a formal event but wanted something a little funky. That’s where the fun started!
They immediately started pulling things off the rack and brainstorming with me. One dress was a clear winner. I threw out my budget (under 130 plz!) and wouldn’t you know it slid right in at $ 125. Not bad for incredibly high quality and curated vintage.
Definitely a winner in the Austin fashion scene!

OMG DYING. I went in today just to browse, and ended up staying for 25 minutes looking at everything.
Merchandise: Fashion nerds will love Garment. It’s about an ⁸⁵⁄₁₅ mix of vintage and new, with some really show stopping vintage finds. These are definitely not clothes you’d find while thrifting. Some of my favorites: A ‘surrealist 50s bralette’ with silk (satin?) hand appliques over mesh cups, An eggplant 1920s gown with art deco beading, and several silk kimonos, in prints so perfect they made me want to cry. Every piece features amazing details– there’s a lot of beading, embroidery, hand-​dying, and architectural structure going on. (Anyone with an interest in garment construction or history will have a field day here.) The best part is that this store completely skips anything too costumey, so, with the exception of some very cool but avante-​garde pieces I couldn’t pull off, I wanted to wear EVERYTHING. I really can’t stress enough how spot on the curation is.
Prices: Pretty much market price for what you’re getting. I shop vintage online frequently, and I can tell you that you’ll probably pay less here than on ebay for the same thing. (Garment does end up being higher than most vintage stores in Austin, but like… you’ll understand when you see it.) The cheapest tops started around 30 – 50, and there were plenty of separates under 100. Furs, leathers, and designer dresses range from 150 to 1000+
Service: The owner, Masha, was super friendly and helpful! I’ll definitely go back when my budget allows.
