Fuzzys Taco Shop

I was very hesitant to come in here for a long time. The name in conjunction with food made me leery. The food was cheap – and cheaply prepared. Taco Bell puts more cheese on their tacos. And you don’t even have to ask. It is part of the package. I’d come here if somebody was paying the bill. But I would not voluntarily stop here on my own again. Not worth it at all/

I made the mistake of coming here against my better judgment. I needed a quick snack before class and wanted to cure my hunger with two breakfast tacos to go. I went to the cashier and put in my order smoothly, and then spent the next 25 minutes waiting for my food. It was a completely unacceptable amount of time to wait for two simple breakfast tacos.
The kitchen is open and you can see the chefs cooking. From the looks of it, motivation to do their jobs is at a low. It seemed like they were moving at a snail’s pace. Customers around me were expressing the same frustration. While the restaurant had a good amount of customers, there were still some open tables. They weren’t even at capacity. I watched one customer storm out and another demand a refund for waiting 20+ minutes and then getting the wrong tacos.
I was nearly late to my class when I finally got my tacos, and they weren’t even good. They were measly, wimpy tacos and one of them was cold. They were basically gas station tacos that took 25 minutes to make.
Going to Fuzzy’s Taco Shop put me in a terrible mood and ruined my day. Don’t come here. It’s not worth your time or your tastebuds.
Another note: I was visibly unhappy and they gave me a coupon for a free taco because of the wait. Honestly this was just an insult to my intelligence for them to think I would ever consider going back.

Only reviewing based on my drinks. The customer service was great and the chalice margarita for $ 5.25 was a good deal. $ 1.50 beers during HH and they have daily drink specials, AFAIR.

There are so many things that have changed at Fuzzys. Management has been improved and so has the food. Check out the Thursday night drinks and tacos. It can get pretty crowded but they have an awesome patio deck. They open later in the morning but they have some of the best quesadillas and enchiladas for lunch so that’s a plus. My favorite thing to eat here is the steak burrito with guac onions lettuce and extra cheese. I’m not sure why other people have had bad experiences here but it’s been great and I will definitely go back.

I waited 45 minutes for a mediocre taco. Won’t be coming back.
The music was also really loud and awful. Couldn’t get out of the place fast enough.
It wasn’t very clean and none of the soft drinks were working.

Margs are awesome! Food is mediocre; good, not awesome, but would eat here on occasion when going for the margarita. Queso is so-​so.

I waited 25 minutes for two of the most mediocre tacos I’ve ever had. I should be giving it one star but this place scrapes by on their drinks which are a pretty good value. I guess I’d MAYBE come again for drinks but honestly there are way better options in the area. Why settle?

Honestly, fuzzys is only good for the drink specials. Food is very subpar, but at least the prices reflect the quality. There are also constantly deals and coupons for this particular Fuzzy’s, so be sure to take advantage if you’re ever in the mood for cheap Mexican-​like taco cabana type fare. May leave you with some stomach pains afterwards, so if you have a sensitive stomach like I do then stick with the big margaritas. These drinks are guaranteed to get you pretty tipsy if not drunk also. Close to campus and convenient, but don’t have high expectations for the food.

I always get their crunchy ground beef tacos. They’re super awesome and I can’t get enough of them.
The chips are very unique at Fuzzy’s. They have this orangish colored special spicy seasoning on it. I personally don’t care for the seasoning but others may think otherwise.

Customer service and tacos were both excellent today! Have been to Fuzzys on the Drag before and it has always been good, however, thanks to the GM Seth Waggener, a great evening seeing a concert on campus was made even better by a bit of extra attention to make sure our meal and the experience was a good one. We will be back!

Great tacos made by hand, plus great drink specials!!! It’s got a party atmosphere and it’s literally on top of the campus. Plus they have built a sweet new deck and are getting ready to install misters and some sweet TV’s. Definitely go check them out!!!

Fuzzy’s has a casual vibe to it and is a great place to get some fairly quick but good tasting Mexican food. They have a variety of meals and drinks on the menu and if you enjoy good Mexican food then I am sure you will enjoy Fuzzy’s.

Fuzzy’s has the potential of being a great taco shop given its proximity to UT campus. I was hoping for some authentic tasting tacos but i don’t think this place met the mark. The tacos are good, but this might not be the first place to go for tacos if you’re looking for some Mexican food.
I ordered the shrimp taco and the beef tacos. I got the potatoes as a side. The tacos were simple and good but did not wow. The potatoes were pretty good. The biggest disappointment was the lack of a salsa bar! This is a must for any taco shop. They do have some hot sauce around but A salsa bar would have turned this review into 3 stars.
The staff was friendly, the food came out quickly and it was very close to campus.

I actually like fuzzy’s because it is so mediocre lol. I usually get the fish or shrimp tacos. I like their hot sauce that they put on the tacos. The food usually doesn’t take long to get. The price isn’t too bad. There’s nothing special about the tacos or menu, but it’s decent.

Unfortunately you can’t write a review without giving a place atleast one star.
I have now eaten at Fuzzy’s twice and I can’t imagine I’ll ever go back. The food is quite bad and grossly overpriced.
Most recently (this evening) I had their large salad and an ice tea for $ 12. This doesn’t sound like a lot yet the salad consisted of roughly three cups chopped iceberg, a few strands of shredded red cabbage, couple of tablespoons of shredded carrot, three strips of fried corn tortilla, five pieces of diced tomato, maybe 3oz. of flavorless sort of grilled chicken and an oz. solo cup of what tasted like cheap jarred salsa. And, the ice tea tastes like it was days old. The salad was extremely bland under seasoned and consisted of the least expensive ingredients imaginable. I don’t mind spending money on tasty well prepared food but I hate feeling like I’ve been ripped off.
Ok, I didn’t expect much from this place and every time I walk by there’s only 5 to 6, at the most, people in the place. I guess others have already learned their lesson. I hate seeing restaurants fail yet, if this place continues as they are I think there’ll be an available space at the midtown commons for any of you aspiring restaurateurs.

Giving this place a three star because the only taco I really enjoyed was the Baja shrimp tacos, no other shrimp tacos compare to it. The other tacos aren’t bad, but if I’m here I might as well have the best thing on the menu.

We stopped in Fuzzy’s one evening to try them out and see how they stack up against the local joints.
While we left full with two soft tacos each, rice & beans and a drink we didn’t leave totally satisfied. I had the shredded chicken soft taco which I thought was too salty overpowering the taste for me and I also had the shredded spicy pork taco, which tasted ok. This is a good place for convenience sake but I think there are other choices in town worth driving a bit out of the way for.
Anyway the prices is good, they got a few beer taps and their menu has some decent choices, so, try it, you might like it (more than us)!

Fuzzy’s is this category that I like to call «the noble three-​stars,» places that have a limited upside, but perform their mediocrity with enthusiasm and aplomb: places like Fuzzy’s, Crown & Anchor pub, and Milto’s, which aim modestly but succeed, typically at half the cost of the competition. These are the kinds of three-​star joints that I will give repeat business, because I’ll take a scrappy, inexpensive underdog over my other category of three stars, the disappointing high-​end place, seven days out of seven.
So here’s what Fuzzy’s does: sell, among other things, seafood tacos that should in no way be qualitatively confused with their vastly superior Torchy’s or Tacodeli counterparts, but that are nevertheless deeply satisfactory ways to insulate the stomach before or after drinking beer at the nearby bars. Or, for that matter, drinking beers at Fuzzy’s itself, which sells local IPAs at an absurdly cheap $ 3.50 a pint.
This is kind of a theme with Fuzzy’s, though: almost everything on the menu is $ 2. I’m not sure how you even make a profit selling shrimp and tilapia at $ 2 a taco, other than, of course, by using the cheapest ingredients possible (they do), but it’s all so very very alright in the end – not great, not even very good, but good enough. The tempura is crunchy, the meats are decently seasoned, and the house sauces go a long way toward covering up the low-​rent quality of the iceberg lettuce and carrots.
Aesthetically, Fuzzy’s is ugly in a kind of effort at beach-​bumminess, and the patio out back has a lovely view of the parking lot and the alley, but is still really not a bad place to wash down said awesomely cheap tacos with said pint of cheap IPA, your friends, and your dog. Crowd is mostly older UT undergrads and the occasional grad students doing the whole ironic slumming bit (that would be me).
And that’s really the whole ethos here: Fuzzy’s isn’t trying to wow you; they’re trying to feed you and get you drunk, affordably and with minimal pomp. And honestly, they’re pretty good at not being that good. I’m not sure that’s the ringing endorsement that ownership dreams of at night, but it’s enough to ensure that I’ll probably be back.

I stopped in here the other day to kill some time during happy hour! To my surprise they have $ 1 margaritas! This was a great deal. I am not sure if this is at all Fuzzy locations, but this is a steal especially if you are a poor college kid! I love Fuzzy’s chips and queso and the seasoning they put on the chips. Their food is decent too. I will definitely remember this happy hour spot when I am over on the drag during this time a day again.
I also connected to the WiFi here and was pleased with its performance. The password is the stores phone number.

I wasn’t blown away by the tacos. I ordered the taco plate and opted for the shredded beef and the grilled fish tacos, with refried beans and the Latin fried potatoes. The beef looked more like pork, to me, but was still palatable. I’m not quite sure how to describe the fish. It was, um, gummy? I guess? At any rate, I took two bites and couldn’t force myself to finish it. The beans seemed like they’d been sitting out for a while, they weren’t really warm and were sort of grainy, but they were pretty tasty. The potatoes, as well, seemed to have been sitting out for a while.
The upside of all this? Happy hour. Or, maybe not even happy hour. They have a full bar and pride themselves on their margaritas. Of course, now I can’t find an accurate menu with descriptions. They have a variety of beer on tap which are all, I think, served in schooners. SCHOONERS! I paid $ 3.50 for a schooner of Lagunitas IPA, that’s quite the deal!
If/​when I return for beer specials, I’ll perhaps try something else on the menu.
