Four On the Floor

I’ve been taking classes at Four on the Floor for about 5 months now and I can’t say enough good things about the place. All the teachers are fantastic and make learning Lindy Hop an absolute blast. And The Fed, where classes are held, is just amazing. Century old ballroom and it just makes for an awesome atmosphere. If you’re interested in learning to dance I highly recommend checking this place out.

I love Four on the Floor. Every Tuesday they teach lessons at the Fed. Lessons are incredible cheap ($ 45 for 4 classes) and a lot of fun.
Most importantly, you don’t need a partner. I repeate, you don’t need a partner. While you’re learning different steps, you rotate partners every few minutes. See ladies and gentlemen? If you want to learn, you can totally come alone. Now that I’ve belabored that point, Four on the Floor is a great resource for learning how to swing dance. I’m on my second class, and I’ll definitely be back for another!

Get a room full of strangers, make them comfortable and put on some music, encourage them to take a few dance steps. Throw in some fun instructors and great energy and what do you get? Whatever it is it SMILES and swings a lot.
My wife and I took beginner lessons then went to the next level to help our confidence.
The teachers have the patience of Job and with a male and female instructors it’s easy to see not only your part but that of your partner. What I love best is that they (Matt and his bot) stay in touch with you long after the classes are over.
This is a wonderful place for singles to meet and put your hands on a hard body!
Rock-​step your ass over there especially NOW while it’s cold.

My fiancé (at the time) and I took swing dance lessons in a group class from Matt and got a great foundation, but wanted to really look good at our wedding. We took additional private lessons from Laura, and MAN, did we improve. These folks break dancing down into easy-​to-​follow segments, they make you feel comfortable and confident, and they are super, duper nice.
Laura patiently, sweetly tutored us over several lessons and we felt so great about our experience that we had no qualms about dancing at our wedding. We get out as often as we can and love it! We’re planning on additional lessons in Balboa and Lindy Hop, as well. If you’re feeling nervous about learning to dance, take the leap and go see Four on the Floor! You won’t be sorry. Classes are fun, teachers are great, and you will be so glad you did it!

I’ve been taking lessons at Four on the Floor since January of last year and have had a great time. I’ve never taken lessons anywhere else, so I don’t have much to compare it to, but they are wonderful. And no worries if you don’t have a partner… My husband has not taken classes with me, and it’s no problem at all. In fact, everyone in class rotates around so you get a chance to dance with everyone. Another thing that’s so nice about FotF is that they are great working with the most beginner of dancer. I have seen people start in beginning swing, totally timid, no rhythm at all, and progress into having confidence, grace, and being totally comfortable. It’s a fun way to get exercise and interact with a variety of people.
Also, just a note, the prices have increased slightly recently– you can just pay by the class for $ 15 each, or you can pay for an entire 4-​week series for $ 45.

Matt and Laura are the best and they have assembled an all-​star group of instructors. Tuesday lessons at FotF are a perfect way to prepare for the AustinSwingSyndicate dance on Thursday. FotF holds classes at several levels in Lindy, Charleston, 6-​count swing, jazz steps and more. It’s just a ton of fun.
As I recall, a 4-​week series is more like $ 35ish.

Tired of being the beer/​purse holder while all your friends are cutting a rug on the dance floor? If you want to learn to dance, but the idea sends shivers down your spine, Four on the Floor is for you.
For nearly ten years FotF (as it’s known to it’s students) has been the place to go for beginner-​friendly lessons in swing and lindy hop. FotF offers classes every Tuesday night at the Texas Federation of Women’s Clubs building (24^th at San Gabriel). Their classes are perfect for the non-​committal: $ 10 gets you into a single class or you can sign up for a four-​week series for $ 54. While swing and lindy hop is the organization’s specialty, they’ve been known to also offer classes in Charleston, balboa, and blues.
The teaching staff at Four on the Floor includes some of the best dancers and nicest people in Austin. Each class I’ve taken from a Four on the Floor has been well organized, useful, and (most importantly) fun. FotF also offers the most diverse student body of any Austin dance organization. Classes consist of dancers from 16 to 60, so no matter who you are, you’ll find someone new to meet and dance with.
