Flemings Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar

Hidden Gem: They have an EXCELLENT Sunday Brunch. You haven’t experienced brunch until you get some Chicken and Waffles at Fleming’s! And Bloody Mary was really good. Best brunch I’ve had in Austin.

It was my first visit to Flemings. My husband made a reservation for a Monday night at 7:30 a few weeks ago for a special occasion. We were seated promptly by a nice hostess, but from there the evening went downhill. Our service was abysmal.
Our waiter’s interest in waiting on us seemed perfunctory at best. For example, it took 10 minutes to get butter for our bread after my husband requested it, another 15 minutes to get a refill of bread. Our food took forever to be served although the restaurant was not crowded (so we ate a lot of bread).
Our waiter disappeared several times for 15 to 20 minutes or more during the three hours we spent at Fleming’s. No one else was around in his absence or came by to check on us. When our waiter would randomly and infrequently appear during the evening, he appeared relaxed and unhurried. He gave no explanation as to where he had been or for our food’s delay, no apology for his inattentiveness.
Finally, a server whom we had not previously seen (which is typical, but it explains what happened next) slid steaks in front of my husband and son. They looked identical, which was not surprising considering they ordered the same cut, one cooked medium and one cooked medium rare. When my son inquired which was which, rather than simply reassuring us he had served the correct steaks cooked as specified to the right people, our sever suggested «why don’t you just cut open your steak and find out?», and turned and walked away. The server’s tone of voice was snarky and contemptuous rather than helpful. I was so surprised, I’m afraid I resembled a fish with my mouth opening and closing. It didn’t matter though because our server didn’t stick around to witness my reaction.
As to the food: bread, very good (thank goodness!), steaks, very good, wedge salad, ok, crab cakes, ok but over-​sauced and definitely not «jumbo,» and the creamed spinach and «special» potatoes were neither tasty nor special. The special potatoes were in fact just scalloped potatoes which were bland and quite dry, appearing to have been heated for far too long.
At Fleming’s prices I expected attentive and attitude-​free service, along with delicious steaks. However, the tastiness of the steaks wasn’t worth being ignored and snarled at. I cant imagine we will ever return.

Just dined here with my boyfriend for our 2 year anniversary and I am VERY pleased with our experience! When we arrived, the hostesses gave us a little card that said «Happy Anniversary» which was very sweet. Our server Adrian was FANTASTIC. Very friendly and attentive, our water glasses never even reached half empty! My boyfriend the 8oz filet mignon and I got the hanker steak with the Fleming’s salad. Everything was delicious! On top of that, they sent us off with a gift certificate for or next visit & a box of truffles! We are DEFINITELY returning!

We went this Sunday to try Fleming’s Sonoma Sunday Brunch and had a great time. It’s a trial program for Flemings and this was their first Sunday for the Domain location but everything was spot on. Glen, our server, continued the impeccable level of service you’d expect from the steakhouse. They offered Mimosa’s standard & complementary biscuits with an apricot jam. My wife ordered the Blue Crab Omelet and I had the Filet Mignon Benedict. Both were excellent. My wife thought to be an ideal treat for a ladies brunch but I though it was just a great way to start a Sunday.

This is the second time i have eaten here and both times were somewhat disappointing.
Pro’s
— The service was great and our waiter did things right and was prompt and attentive.
— The Mashed potato and mac-​n-​cheese were both very good
— Great wine selection and pretty good price by the glass
Con’s
— Steak quality is good but defiantly not amazing
— My wife’s was under cooked, mine was over cooked. Now neither were WAY off but they were defiantly not right. For the price they should be able to get it right.
— Price, we walked out close to 400 dollars for four of us and I was the only one to have a drink (one glass of red wine). I felt the steaks were under weight and not that great of quality
— Parking is a JOKE, plan on walking or valet
Summary: There are better places to get a steak in the Austin area and for this price not many if any will cost more.

This review is strictly on their after 8pm happy hour although I did have a steak at the Fleming’s in La Jolla and would probably rate that 3 stars at best.
First off the food. We ordered the beef empanadas, filet mignon flat bread, and tuna tacos.
The beef empanadas tasted like something that they make maybe once a week and then stick in a freezer or get shipped by Fleming’s corporate. They tasted old, not fresh, and the breading was way too thick. It overpowered any taste of the filling. Quite honestly it rates like something I could get at Costco in the frozen section.
The filet mignon flat bread was OK. The meat was good, but the BBQ sauce or whatever they put on it is way too sweet. They put too much of it on, and if I were to order this again I would order without the sauce.
The tuna tacos had 2 major issues. The shell was over fried and the seaweed although it gave it a nice texture, overpowered any tuna flavor. It tasted more like a seaweed taco with pico de gallo.
Now the part that made this happy hour experience very unpleasant. Sitting next to us was a table of 3 women and 2 men, with the women yelling «Cheers, b*tches». Considering Fleming’s is relatively quiet and more reserved, there is no place for this and management should have come over to tell them to refrain from doing that. I could maybe understand if it was once, but this lady proceeded to yell it loudly over 10 times. I understand this is a 8pm happy hour, but we’ve been to many happy hours throughout downtown Austin and North Austin and never had an experience like this. I was even a bit embarrassed for the lady because I think she was trying hard to be Bethany Frankel.
I think it is safe to say this will be our first and last time at Fleming’s happy hour. Kona Grill or Copper are much better options at the Domain.

We have frequented Flemings for special occasions like anniversaries and last night we attended for my birthday!
We ordered their seasonal 3 course meal. This is not advertised anywhere in the restaurant but we receive emails from Flemings and they notify customers of the specials.
Their special was a yummy soup that I forgot what it was, but it was delicious! The main meal was an 8oz filet with 2, yes 2! blue crab stuffed lobster tails. The were cooked perfectly for both my husband and myself. First off these are delicious but it was so much food! We both barely ate half so if you are a normal appetite type of people you really could get an appetizer or salad then share the rest!
The declined dessert due to being over stuffed which was 2 pumpkin cheesecakes, (I know in the past you on Valentine’s you share the dessert) but the waitress brought out a candle in a raspberry so I didn’t miss out on any Birthday wishes! (So cute & See pic)
Th value of everything was amazing with this visit! All in all we were impressed as usual and would recommend Flemings for any special night out!

Ate here about a week ago. had one of the best tasting steaks I’ve eaten! Got it with the lobster truffle sauce. Also delicious! Have a good options on there wine menu as well… will be returning!

First off I must state that this was the best dining experience I ever had. A little pricy but worth every penny.
Pros:
— everything I put in my mouth tasted amazing.
— steak was cooked perfectly to how I ordered it
— waiter was amazing. He was on top of every detail of our experience. I wish I remembered his name so that I could request to sit at his table again. He really made my anniversary dinner memorable
— the cheesecake had to be one of the best slices of anything I have ever eaten in my life
Cons:
— a little difficult to find if you are not familiar with the domain. I ended up parking a little too Far on one of the garages instead of in a parking spot in front of the restaurant
— there was a child that continued to be disruptive but staff addressed it quickly.

I took the wife out and I had a coupon I wanted to use. The wife had a prime ribeye and I wanted to try the wagyu ny strip. We both ordered medium well. They came out looking very charred and more well done if anything. I sent mine back. I couldn’t justify $ 60 for a NY strip that was mediocre. I get better quality at Costco for $ 10/​pound and a lot thicker. I then reordered an 8oz filet and sworn I asked for medium. 20 mins later and well done it came out. It looked maybe 1″ thick at most. I’m used to filets being 2″ thick and it tasted more like Top Sirloin. A great filet should melt in your mouth even if it’s cooked medium well. I’m very concerned about the quality of steaks sold here. Especially for a chain steakhouse. I not coming back anytime soon and I will go with the sure thing and go to Ruth Chris next time.

Had dinner here one evening — we were in a private room as part of a company event.
The wait staff was very good in keeping everyone supplied with their favorite beer, ale, or glass of wine. I had the opportunity to enjoy a couple of pints of Lagunitas IPA.
Afterward we were seated for dinner. I had the Filet Mignon — it was a rather large filet — I believe it was about 10 oz. It’s been a long time since I ordered a Filet, and now I remember why I always either butterfly them or cut them in half — they get rather dry when cooking a hunk of meat that thick.
The mashed potatoes, mushrooms, and Asparagus served with our steaks were good.
Service was excellent. For those who were so inclined, some dessert options were offered — which I skipped. Everyone else seemed to enjoy their desserts.

I rarely give one-​star reviews, but when service, knowledge, and overall quality of the experience is this bad (at a high price I might add…), it’s worth noting.
I’ve had dinner at Fleming’s on several occasions — it’s a pricey chain of steakhouses. The wine list is quite good. And the bar at the Domain location in Austin is a good place for a drink. However, this particular night revealed a side of Fleming’s that was more Applebee’s than white tablecloth restaurant. I arrived a few minutes early having made a reservation on a Friday night. The greeting was a bit aloof but no problem, they were slammed. A chilly older woman seated me at a booth next to the bar — loud (more on this later). My waiter was a happy and cheerful guy — but incredibly ‘informal’ for such an expensive place — and brought a menu and a pretty good martini soon after I was seated.
I decided to order the 6oz «Newport» filet mignon ($ 39.95) with a side of lump crabmeat ($ 12.95). I chose the Modern Caesar Salad ($ 10.50 as a salad course. The waiter tried to hard upsell me to a ‘Wagyu’ NY Strip steak — when I asked him about the origin of the steak he had no idea. He was honest in saying that «wagyu» in this case was a bloodline of Japanese short haired cattle mixed with an unknown quantity of Angus beef. I’ve seen as much as 95% Angus/​5% ‘wagyu’ bloodline being sold as «Wagyu» steaks in restaurants — the margins are HUGE (in Fleming’s case, it is the ‘wagyu’ difference is about 15% more than the non-​wagyu steak on the menu). I blew off the upsell and stuck with the small filet.
However, when I heard the same lame and questionable upsell to ‘wagyu’ at tables around me, I talked to the waiter about it. He told me «I’m a salesman.» And «I have bills to pay.» I asked if the manager could confirm from where the ‘wagyu’ beef was sourced. He could not. And was pissed that I would ‘question their sincerity’ — dismissive of my inquiry. He actually turned his back and walked off. Incredible.
I’ve eaten at steakhouses and restaurants around the world. The ‘wagyu scam’ is common in the USA. It is very similar to sushi restaurants around the country that intentionally mislabel menus with a lower grade of fish — to sell at a premium price. I don’t know if the ‘wagyu’ steak sold at Fleming’s is truly wagyu or not. But at the prices charged at the restaurant, I’d expect menus to be labeled with the provenance or — at the very least — the manager would know where the beef was sourced and it’s ‘true’ wagyu percentage. It is also a food sourcing issue in a country that nows has regular e. coli outbreaks at restaurant chains. Guess I know far too much about the ‘wagyu scam’ (I have friends who are ranchers in NM who’ve enlightened me).
My 6oz filet (end cut) arrived and was fine. I had to send it back once due to the crab side being dumped on top with a béarnaise (not what I requested). Had a couple of glasses of red: a Hall cabernet sauvignon (a ‘big pour’ $ 32.95/glass) and a glass of Justin cabernet sauvignon ($ 18.50). My waiter misunderstood my request (hard to hear given the bar noise) and brought my dessert with my second glass of red — I sent it back so it could be brought with my coffee. He pointed out later that he ‘didn’t charge me for 2 desserts.’ OK. Whatever.
Total (without tip): $ 157.13. Might go back for a glass of wine at the bar (still crowded as I was leaving at 8pm — dining room was ½ empty at that point). Otherwise, not worth it.

One of the best steak dinners I have had in a long time. Went as a group of 7 and ordered steaks individually and family styled apps and sides. Can say that all sides and apps were eaten by all of us — I don’t think we left anything. The desserts were also devoured by all, carrot cake was the clear winner, although all really good. House cab was excellent as well. Had a filet on the bone that had that ‘melt in your mouth’ taste.
Service was excellent on all counts as well and manager checked in with us as well. I personally went to the manager and thanked him for such a great dinner.
If your experience is anything like mine recently you won’t be disappointed. Would go back on a moments notice. Well worth a special night out.

This is a great restaurant serving some very decadent fair. If you are willing to pay for a very nice night out, you’ll find Flemings to be an excellent option. Expect the bill to be rather large.
This is a go big or go home restaurant. And you definitely want to go big. If you aren’t of that mindset you should absolutely explore other options.
Also, expect to pay for $ 6 for valet parking IF it’s still available when you arrive. Other parking options are simply atrocious. Even in the garage you should expect spending a large amount of time looking and an ever greater amount of time walking and or getting lost. This alone removes a star from my rating. Plan accordingly. This could easily ruin your night.
From what I’ve experienced the staff is very knowledgeable about their wines. Of course, it’s always best if you know your own tastes in wines and not go in blindly to such a restaurant as this. I personally think cabs are best with what I’m about to suggest.
When it comes to food, stick with big filets topped with lobster, shrimp or crabmeat. The lump crab oscar style with bearnaise is my personal favorite. I also suggested the peppercorn rub. Pair it with asparagus. Or, if you are feeling really indulgent, the lobster mac and cheese will send you to your very special place.
And if you try walking back to the garage after that you’ll understand why that star is missing.

I’d say the food is average. Waiter talked too much for my liking. I know this is TX but I thought it would be more intimate. Wrong place. Ordered wedge salad, served as expected. Hard to mess up a quarter iceberg lettuce. Both boyfriend and I ordered medium 8 oz fillets. Served pink in the middle as expected but meat dry. Perhaps I should’ve requested medium rare. There was no juice coming out of this cut. Boyfriend ordered onion rings. It was gross how much fried onion came out to the table. I think he ate two pieces. Requested sautéed spinach versus creamed thinking it would be a healthier choice. Tasty but in a bowl of butter, not to heart healthy. Lastly what steakhouse doesn’t have bananas foster?
Overall disappointed and see no reason to return. I expected more from a steakhouse in TX although this is a chain…

Surprised to say there is a difference between North Austin and downtown Austin Flemings. All I wanted was the chocolate milkshake that I had from the 8−9−10 happy hour shindig a couple months ago. I know nothing about alcohol, and did not know they changed the recipe. Here, they use Bulleit Rye Whiskey vs the original Makers Mark Bourbon. The server was inattentive and told me my drink was «coming right up». This drink took 45 minutes to come after my order, and when it came, it was barely drinkable. Bitter and not subtle at all smooth and rich like Downtown. A let down at the Domain tonight.

After 3 visits so far this year, I have to update my review to 3 stars. All have been problematic with either service or food.
First there was a major bump in service. Though credit to the manager who went out of his way to apologize, the apology felt a bit trivialized and left us with a sour taste.
Despite that incident, since we have been long time Fleming’s regulars, we’ve returned twice. Once to a badly overcooked steak, the the second time to a steak that was, and I am not exaggerating, well over 50% fat. Now my usual is ribeye, and I know to expect some fat, but wow, whole large chunks were fat, so much that the fat and bone left on the plate appeared as large as the original steak. Something’s wrong that got that cut on the grill in the first place. Both times the steaks were very underseasoned.
If it helps others, though the Fleming’s potatoes are tasty and rich, I’ve been entirely satisfied swapping them out for the green beans or for the mushrooms. So far as appetizers, I want to love the calamari, but the last time they were oily and apparently had been sitting finished waiting on an order for a while. I’m guessing as one of the discounted happy hour bar plates, they were made anticipating orders.
I’ll be back, I’m certain, and am hoping for the best. I’d love to feel like Fleming’s Domain was 4 or even 5 star again.

For my 5^th wedding anniversary I decided to treat my wife to dinner at Fleming’s. My wife loves steak and I figured a restaurant like Fleming’s is designed for special occasions like this was. I called and made reservations, which was very easy and smooth over the phone. Brittany was able to describe the set up nicely since I’ve never been here and even my parking options and where to find Fleming’s in the Domain.
We arrived promptly for our dinner time. We had to wait a out 7 minutes for them to finish setting up our U shaped booth. This wasn’t a big deal at all to me. The table was set nicely with a Happy Anniversary envelope and card waiting for us. This was a nice touch that please my wife. Our server, Curtis was great throughout the whole time we were there. He wasn’t over bearing, yet very attentive and descriptive with the meals.
I had a sangria cocktail which was mixed perfectly. I also had a beef filet with bacon wrapped shrimp and gargonzola cheese mashed potatoes. This meal hit the spot nicely my medium plus sealed was cooked to perfection and the flavor and quality of the meals was impressive to me. We were recommended by Curtis to try the Chocolate lava cake with 2 scoops of vanilla ice cream garnished with pistachio nuts and a raspberry for dessert. The dessert was delectable and the Chocolate was very rich in flavor. Reader beware you’re in for a treat.
We had a great time and really enjoyed our evening and we’re looking forward to returning after such a great experience

Awesome filet mignon. I got the small portion with the Flemings potatoes and it was plenty. I do think some of the items were too creamy but the steaks were great. The filet was extremely tender and well seasoned.
Flemings potatoes were too cheesy for me. Creamed spinach for obvious reasons also too creamy lol. the sautéed mushrooms were awesome. We had a reservation and they seated us on time.
burrata with cherry tomatoes was decent. I wasn’t a fan of the crispy bread that came with it. tasted too buttered. anyway, steaks are great here and everything else is heavy. depends on what you’re looking for in a steakhouse.
