I love this place! The first time I had fry bread was on San Xavier reservation in Arizona from the tribe Tohono O Odam. I never thought I would find a place that would be as good. Well I was wrong! This place got me feeling quite nostalgic. When you go get the OG Christmas style with a cilantro lemonade you won’t regret it!

Really good food truck off of South Congress. I got the pulled pork taco which was really good. My wife got the foghorn which was my favorite item I tried. Good, quick, cheap meal that I would try again.

We waited about 20 minutes for 3 tacos and the chorizo was delicious. Ended up here because the line for Jo’s coffee was too long of a wait so we went here. I prefer Jo’s and would have waited. The tacos were $ 3 and had a thai crêpe truck next to it. Interesting chorizo experience!

The fry bread«shell» was pretty good, but because you end-up squeezing the taco whilst tearing the shell with your teeth, the concoction falls apart in the process.(You might as well start with a fork). Their taco is overly salted, so ask if they can take it easy on the sodium. I got the original(O.G.) and it wasn’t super impressive: you’re basically eating some nicely-seasoned taco meat smothered in beans. Yeah, this means after your first bite, you’ll start dripping all over the place. Speaking of dripping: their food prep isn’t great because your fingers will be dripping in grease purely from touching the foil. Cheapish iceberg lettuce. You have a couple of sauce options: mild(green), red(hot) or christmas(both)… I opted for both for maximum enjoyment. In the end, I felt that there are soooo many better taco options in Austin, and they charge too much for a slightly above-average taco. Nevertheless, everyone should try this place at least once because you might find a flavor that you like!

My mission in Austin was to try as many food trucks as I can. I had tacos at Guero’s right before Fat Cactus so I wasn’t feeling a taco at the moment. I ordered the Navajo Nachos to share with friends. It was pretty good, I liked that they covered every chip so that no chip was without toppings. The guy delivered it straight to my table while it was still hot and fresh. It was pretty tasty though I’d like to come back and try the taco since it’s made with«fry bread.»

The service was great, the guy was super friendly and personable. The honey tea was really good and went perfect with my taco. I got the vegetarian Greek Western taco, it was delicious & the frybread was amazing.

This. Is. The. Best. New favorite food truck in Austin hands down. Awesome Navajo influences — I had the O.G. Fry Bread Taco with green chile(HATCH. GREEN. CHILE. — yeah all you native 505ers — YOU know). I can’t rave enough about this thing — I literally scarfed it down so fast that I forgot to unwrap it and ended up taking a bite of the tin foil. Am I mad? Not even a little bit.

Not open on a Saturday? Are you kidding? This inconsistency is what gives trailers a bad name. I won’t be eating here. Edit: I was contacted by fat cactus. The communication was very kind. That’s worth an additional star. Check their hours before you go!

I’ve had nearly every form of taco throughout my life, minus the fry bread foghorn taco. Truly, an exceptional culinary invention. #wtf #fatcactus

I just ate here for the first time, and I’m so glad I did! I got the Hippie. It was so delicious and flavorful! Very pleased with how large a size it was. The guy at the window was nice, cooked it up fresh, and brought it out to me. Will definitely be eating here again!

Absolutely delish!!! By chance we waited until this area to eat and I was not disappointed! This is by far the best gordito I have ever had– The Foghorn. It’s like a salt rubbed fried dough surrounding seasoned chicken and this to die for pumpkin seed ranch pesto with goat cheese. I might have to move here just to eat here again!

Highly underrated. Small, hidden gem on south congress that I luckily stumbled upon. The Navajo frybread is so fluffy and tasty, I could eat that on its own! Filling it with spring mix and meat was just too good to be true!

Worth waiting for! I was the last of the group to get my food and everyone thought it was odd since I only ordered nachos. But they aren’t your typical TexMex nachos(which I love) these had a style all their own. Fat Cactus is known for their fry bread so I thought it was cool that they also made their own nacho chips. There was more than enough food in one serving. I went with the veggie version but instead of the vegetables it came with, I substituted guac. I almost couldn’t finish the whole plate but I somehow managed(without sharing). People passing by kept checking them out(thanks for watching me stuff my face stranger dangers) then promptly got in line. It’s both visually and palate pleasing. It’s hard to describe the chips unless you’re familiar with fry bread. It’s like that, just thinner. The chips held up well under the weight of the toppings so I was able to dig right into that dollop of yummy guac without breakage. I give it two cheese-covered thumbs up!

I have been in Austin since Monday and have hit up a lot of local tourists«hot» spots and today, Thursday was my best Austin meal. The chicken lavosh, pine nut, pesto, goat cheese, arugula bliss wrapped in a fresh Indian fry bread blew my mind. Worth seeking out, I highly recommend. Yummmmmm!

Ooooh, this place is so good. Stopped in a couple weeks ago for the first time, and I’m sure it won’t be my last. We started with the green chili hummus plate($ 5). Yum! The hummus tasted super fresh, with just a little bit of a spicy kick. I ordered the Hippy($ 7), which is their vegetarian Navajo fry bread taco. It was HUGE and super delicious. It consisted of squash, zucchini, beans, cheese, and lots of delicious spices on a big piece of fried dough. I got about halfway through, pushed it away because I was full, and then munched away another quarter of it while complaining that I had eaten too much. If you’re a light eater and you’ve got a friend with you, you may want to consider splitting one. Note: One of the salsa options contains chicken broth, but I can’t remember which one. Anyway, if you’re a vegetarian, you’ll want to check on that before you order. The guy working the counter was super friendly, and our food came out very quickly. My only regret is that I didn’t have room at the end of the meal for their dessert fry bread, which comes with cinnamon, sugar, and a few other toppings. Maybe next time!

After a long day of walking around SoCo, all I wanted was to sit down and eat a meal. But unfortunately, Sunday afternoons during ACL weekend mean ridiculously long lines. Everywhere. So instead, I decided to hit up a food truck, which had significantly less wait time. I saw Fat Cactus and had no idea what kind of food they served. But I decided to give it a go, starving by this point. And I have to say, I am so so glad I ate here and not waited in line for a restaurant because the food was incredible and very unique! They serve taco fillings in Navajo fry bread, which is like naan but fluffier, more savory, and a little crispy on the outside. I ordered the OG with mixed red and green salsa, beef, lettuce, and tomatoes. And even though it was simple, it was absolutely fantastic. The simplicity of the inside let’s you taste the quality of all the ingredients, and I really enjoyed the mix of sauces along with the fry bread. I could eat their fry bread and never get tired of it. The only reason I give them a 4 star instead of 5 is that I also ordered their cilantro lemonade. I don’t know what I was expecting, and maybe I just don’t know what cilantro lemonade is supposed to be, but blech. It was way too sour, a little water downed, and strangely herby, making it a lemonade that’s more like watery soup than a tasty, refreshing drink. BUT their food is fantastic, and I would definitely make another trip.

I found this food truck at Gibson St. Artists’ Market on the corner of Gibson and South Congress. It’s bright yellow. You can’t miss it. And it’s so good. Their specialty involves frybread in which they use for their tacos. It can be compared to but not really– it’s just the closest thing to compare to in popularity– Taco Bell’s Chalupa. I tried the Hippy, one of the Traditional Navajo Frybread Tacos and the contents were fresh but it didn’t take away from the star. the frybread. So good. It comes wrapped in foil and it’s such a fat taco, I recommend you keep the foil on and unfoil as needed. .I kinda want another right now. I would definitely go back to the market just for some Fat Cactus.

Pretty good overall. I had the pecker frybread taco with green and red chile sauce and a cilantro lemonade. The frybread itself was delicious, fresh, puffy, warm and chewy with a lightly salty seasoned exterior. The lettuce was flavorless iceberg which doesn’t do the taco any favors, but the sauces and chicken add a good amount of flavor to it and it makes for a satisfying and unique meal. I really expected to like the cilantro lemonade and am a bit puzzled by people raving about it. I typically love unique flavor combinations and herbs but I just found that it tastes a bit medicinal, funky and off. At least it wasn’t cloyingly sweet however. Worth checking out for the frybread alone I think.
