Eye Capitol

This is a great find. Dr. Chavez was so kind and helpful. He really took the time to make sure I had the exact right prescription. He was also just fun to talk to and very friendly. I liked that the explained how much it would be for contacts and gave me a full understanding of what getting contacts would mean. And was very fine with me wanting to think it out and look at the option again next year.

Fully deserving of the many 5 star reviews. The staff was excellent at communicating with me online regarding my appointment (they were actually able to get me in on my desired day even though they are booked well in advance, and for good reason). Most of all though Dr. Chavez was fantastic at making the exam as comfortable and informative as possible. He took his time and made sure to explain things thoroughly. Their prices seemed very reasonable, though I don’t really have anytime to compare it to. Needless to say I felt taken care of and was well worth any price paid. I have found my eye care in Austin and I suggest you do try this office as well.

Pretty good deal as far as the Unilocal coupon goes… however they didn’t tell me it was a $ 150 or so total for both eye exams… the coupon only covered one and I thought that’s all I needed. But I wanted contacts as well so that exam was a whole extra bill. They also never followed up with me about my prescription once I decided which contacts I wanted to order. I had to call several times to get my prescription sent to me, when they were supposed to call me after 5 days.
Dr. Chavez was extremely nice, extremely knowlegable, and even funny. My exams were painless and thorough. He even showed me my eye exam results and imagery, including an explanation, which was very interesting. He answered my questions very professionally and explained options and preventative measures towards eye care. You can tell he spends his funds on top of the line machinery and generous contacts trials, and the staff was all very friendly and laid back. Cool place. Just wish I knew about the extra charge.

The folksbat Eye Capitol are auper nice and they got me in and out quickly while still being very thorough. The doc is great and the price is very fair!

I had an amazing experience with Eye Capitol! Dr. Chavez was knowledgeable and took his time to explain everything to me. He acknowledge all my questions and concerns. I did not know how bad of a service I was receiving from my previous eye doctors until I had such a wonderful experience in Dr. Chavez’s office! He introduced me to various contact lenses without favoring any particular brands. I also got new glasses today that cost ¹⁄₃ of how much my previous glasses cost (and my new glasses have more features than the old one!). I don’t usually write reviews, but I’m so pleased with the service I received today that I have to say something on Unilocal

This place full deserves 5 stars! Very clean facility, friendly and knowledgeable employees, and a wide variety of glasses to choose from. Also, Eye Capitol provides their great services at a great price! I had a full eye exam, picked out glasses, and had them fitted all within an hour. No waiting, no hassle. I highly recommend Eye Capitol!

Visited Dr. Chavez recently for my first vision exam in several years. The staff are friendly, patient and very considerate. I was unsure about my visual insurance coverage and the staff spent a significant amount of time helping me find out what my payment options were. Once I arrived at the office, I was pleased with how quickly and efficiently I was moved through the office. My paperwork was processed in front of me and I saw Dr. Chavez immediately after that. He was polite and very knowledgeable about eye health and contact lenses and answered all of my questions patiently and googled visuals and fact charts to give me more data. It was pretty cool to see how passionate he is about providing the very best care to his patients.

2^nd visit was even better than the last. Dr. Chavez gets it so, so right in terms of explaining all of the procedures, educating me about my eye health (helping me feel empowered), and catering to all of my questions, concerns, and… philosophical/​psychological musings. So pleasant. Exceeds all expectations. Highly recommend!

Dr. Chavez introduced himself when he was mostly a blurry blob hahah. But he was very kind and explained a lot of interesting things about what he was doing. He was very knowledgable and charming. His staff was very friendly, they did a good job sending out good vibes! :)

Dr. Chavez is AMAZING! I had been putting off going to get my eyes checked and finally did it. It was effortless and he talks you through the entire process nicely. You can tell that he genuinely cares and loves his job. Thank you to all other reviewers for convincing me to go here!

My experience here was great, start to finish. The coupon really helped me get my new prescription, the doctor was nice and took his time to really explain things to me about my prescription and anything to look out for in the future. I’d say the best part was that there was no pressure to buy glasses from them. They asked if I wanted to and when I said no, it was totally cool. Before going I was half expecting a hard sale but never experienced that which is super duper great!
I bought my glasses from Coastal and was happy with the whole process. It’s REALLY nice to now get several pairs of glasses and an exam for the price of what used to get one pair of glasses, exam not included. It makes me want to go more. Several years ago I went into an a large glasses place with broken glasses that I’d tried to repair myself with super glue. It was all over the lenses, completely ridiculous. I was really poor (organic farming at the time) and the guy there gave me all the discounts he could think of and it still came out more than what I just paid for exams, two pairs of glasses and prescription sunglasses. It was kind of a traumatic experience so this was a great relief!

This is the best eye doctor I’ve been to so far!

I am so happy that I decided to go to Eye Capitol. Dr. Chavez is without a doubt the best optometrist I have been to. He took the time to very clearly explained what was going on with my eyes in a way that I could understand and made sure to answer all of my questions. He is also a really nice guy who is easy to talk to and you get the sense that he really cares about his patients.
His staff was also very nice, even though I was a little late to my appointment they were able to fit me in. I definitely recommend Eye Capitol.

Dr. Chavez was so nice and explained everything about my condition to me, which had never been done and was very appreciated! I didn’t have to wait too long and everyone there was very nice while I did. He offered to help with my insurance and calling to check to see if they would cover my exam. Unfortunately i had already bought the Unilocal deal, but I will be back and hope this is something I can figure out in the meantime!
He also had a super cute little assistant today!

I apparently have the driest eye Dr. Chavez has ever seen in all his years looking at eyeballs. But you know what? That’s alright.
He was super nice and the staff was super nice. They didn’t even care that I was sweaty and had super dry eyes.

I had a wonderful experience here! Dr. Michael Chavez and his staff were simply amazing as well as very professional. I started experiencing double vision which was unexplained after an MRI (we thought it was due to a previous back injury.) This was a very awful experience for me. When we came here, Dr. Chavez immediately diagnosed me with Keratitis of the cornea. After treating it and prescribing an eye drop/​lubricant regimen, I’ve finally been able to live life normally again.
The staff was patient, professional, and very understanding. They successfully made the examination very comfortable for me and I’m thankful for this being an anxious individual. No matter where I’m located in Austin, I’m making Dr. Chavez my permanent optometrist. Great place to come and I absolutely recommend!

I hate to even admit this. I haven’t seen an eye doctor ever since more than 6 — 7 years ago. I was in between jobs and I had make sure I had health insurance that covers vision. So I thought this would be a good chance for me to have my vision checked.
My glasses were horrible as they seemed to be falling apart and the lenses was cracked. Dr. Michael Chavez was just in awe about my glasses. So yes, I did need new glasses. It seemed my broken glasses were making my vision even worse.
Dr. Chavez made sure I had the best experience going to see an optometrist. I mean he even let me experiment with the vision test to see which lenses I can see best. He also had me do some tests for my eyes which he mentioned was covered by my insurance.
Eye Capitol is a nice place. I don’t need anything to fancy and I didn’t mind the place was in a mini-​mall. Heaven forbid, I’m glad I found these guys because I was going to go to an upscale place. Of course I chickened out and decided go with Eye Capitol. They had a good selections of frames which I’m eager to get my new pair of glasses. You can go online and make an appointment. Usually they will get back to you within 24 hours.

A++! On Monday I made a Thursday appointment via email, an option that I really appreciate because it means I don’t have to make a receptionist suffer on the phone while I flip through my calendar.
–They didn’t have to dilate my eyes which is always a plus since it makes me nauseous.
–Dr. Chavez was super thorough (and friendly!) I love that he let me turn the dials when deciding which of two prescriptions allowed me to see better.
–The tutorial on how to put contacts in/​take them out was helpful. I put them in on the first try (which is a testament to Rosie’s great technique because the last time I thought about wearing contacts, I gave up when it took me 1 hour to put just one in!)
–I thought $ 140 for the exam and $ 15 for the contacts tutorial (required for first time contact wearers) was pretty fair.
–I will say that if you’re in the market for new frames, this place might not have as many options as you’d want. That said, this didn’t bother me a bit as I always always always by frames when I visit my parents OKC at a magical place (Sam’s Optical!), anyway.
I don’t plan on being in Austin forever, but while I’m here, I’ll definitely stick with Eye Capitol for eye care needs!

What a great practice! A few months ago, I had a persistent eye infection. (TMI? What, I work with kids sometimes and have allergies, eyes are weird). I saw my usual HMO-​approved doctor option and this random doctor at the mega-​clinic handed me fancy visine. Almost useless. Fast forward a few days and I’m stuck at work, feeling lousy.
I made a few calls and Dr. Chavez could see me the same day! His cash rate was super affordable. His staff are funny. And there’s ample parking. I’ve been to a lot of the «cheaper» places — the doctors tacked onto a Target, a Wal-​Mart, the Pearle Visions of the world — and while all have been fine, none of them have made me feel like a welcome guest. Dr. Chavez’s crew are the best, really approachable, went over my options and made sure cash was the best choice.
As for the Doctor himself? Hilarious and sweet and very gentle when basically saying «oh my gawd, that looks awful!» He got me some stronger drops, made sure I used them correctly, then proceeded to conduct a mini-​eye exam. The best part was when he became fidgety and worried about something but wouldn’t say it right away — turns out he was worried my long crazy eyelashes might irritate my eye. I have curly hair, it’s a concept I’m familiar with handling. He was such a pro about wanting to fix this side issue, which women can be quite vain about, that it made me laugh. He never mansplained about how maybe I shouldn’t be putting a bunch of mascara on big lashes. Hilarious.
Anyhow, totally recommended.
