Express Employment Professionals

Express is the first temp agency I have used in my 6 years of being out in the work force, and I have been impressed so far in my dealings with them. I didn’t give them more stars, because I don’t have other agency experience with which to compare them. However, I have been with Express for a month, and I have found them to be very professional, great with communication, and generally invested in ensuring I have positive experiences with my employers.
The three ladies I have worked with in the Santa Ana office all know my name and seem familiar with my file and employment history. My initial employment process with their agency was very well organized and the ladies I interacted with were very helpful and precise in their explanations of the hiring and job placement process. My interview was not just an evaluation of who I was as an employee, but also consisted of many questions designed to fit me into the jobs that I would be interested in working. I felt secure knowing that Express expects professionalism and safe working practices both from their employees and the employers with whom they work.
In about three weeks of working with them, I have worked about a week and a half (64hrs) in a full time position that I decided was too much of a commitment for my current situation, and have also put in about 20hrs in a job that provides about 16hrs of work a week. This level of work makes sense for me right now, and I found Express to be very receptive to my specific needs as an employee. They’ve sent me a couple messages to check up on me at work, helped mediate between myself and my employers, and let me know when my paycheck is ready to be picked up at the office. I am very happy with them and have recommended them to two friends already.

Overall I felt they were alright. The recruiter was cool and friendly, but at the end of the day I didn’t get a job, so I can’t really rant and rave about how amazing they are. In their defense they said I’d be a strong candidate for a job which required a car, but since I don’t have one currently, I couldn’t work it. Not their fault on that note. This location was decent overall.

Ah what to say about Express Pros?
I went there with a scheduled appointment. They then told me I would have to come back at 1 PM because they were going to have a meeting. WHAT??? No one even called me about this.
I told them no. I had to be at work. I get my interview and do all this paperwork and then I am supposed to email the recruiter with an updated resume. I do and NEVER hear back from them again. No message to say they got my email, nothing.
DO NOT use Express Pros.

In May, I was called about a position that was on their website for customer service for TxTag. I had a 3:00 pm appointment and arrived at 2:50. There was a couple in their early 30’s filing out paperwork who were walk-​ins.
While I was waiting, a man in his 50’s came out and escorted the couple to his cubicle where he interviewed the couple, did a urine test and offered them jobs at TxTag while I continued to wait. At this point, it is 3:40 pm. I asked the receptionist if I had been forgotten and she assured me I had not. The couple left and the same man that interviewed them came and got me. He started the interview with so small talk and nervious laughter and I figured he was embarrassed about the length of time I had waited. No, that was not the case. I think he was trying to figure out how to tell me that I had come all the way from Round Rock for an interview that was made almost 2 days prior for a specific job, and now that position was no longer available. Well, how can that be, sir, when I just heard you interview that couple that was a walk in, and you offered not one, but two positions for TxTag. He continued to repeat that there were no positions available and he absolutely disregarded what I said to him about the fact that he had given two positions away to people who had no appointment while he kept me waiting.
Now, this has bothered me for months. When you are over 50, you begin to wonder if that is the reason that you lost out on the job. On the way home, I began to wonder if it was not only my age but maybe it was my race. Ageism from a guy who was older than me? I could not fathom why, IF it was as I was being told, that there were no jobs with TxTag available, why wasn’t I called and asked if I still wanted to be interviewed. This «man» allowed the interview to be concluded without offering me ANY position. As I said, this has bothered me for months so after checking with EEOC about where I stand with a suit since Express Personnel is a temporary agency, I realize that I am within my right to file a discrimination suit. I consulted an attorney last week and will be filing suit before the 300 day statue runs out. Rather than me trying to figure out what he was thinking, I will let him speak, on the record, for himself.

Prior to the interview I was told the job was $ 13 an hour. So I went to the interview. When it was time for me to start the assignment, they told me it was $ 12. I took the assignment against my better judgement. I was terminated after one week. After 5 weeks everyone in my training class was terminated. I went on Unemployment Insurance. SIX MONTHS later, Express Personnel tried to collect my unemployment insurance benefits back through Texas Workforce Commission. I had to defend myself during a hearing with the State of Texas. This was an EXTREMELY stressful situation because we are talking about $ 1000 in unemployment benefits.
